Vinegar is only dangerous if consumed above a safe level, same with the sun, water, etc. Which was the point you seemed to miss. Toxicity is determined not by how it interacts with plants, but the safe level for humans, which is different than plants. Your assumption that everything is automatically dangerous is not founded in anything close to science or even evidence at this point. Prove that it's dangerous, it's been the most common and least toxic herbicide for years. Wouldn't you expect more concrete evidence to turn up similar to smoking, black lung disease, mesthelioma, etc? There hasn't been a huge upsurge in cancer rates, in fact they've gone down since glyphosate has been used. There is literally no concrete evidence currently that this is dangerous to humans at concentrations currently used. Find proof then I'll believe you.
The comment prior to mine was about how city people are all jerks looking down on rednecks. My point is that people always think other people are jerks and not themselves. I've got tons of stories about city folks too.
It's also eat to pick on people who literally do things like roll coal, block hybrid charging stations, routinely practice racism, and cling to preconceived notions regardless of what they are shown in evidence. I've lived in rural areas. I've lived in cities. Neither are perfect but they make fun of each other pretty equally, I've never been run off the road by a truck in the city, had motorcycles swerve at my family riding bikes in the city (cars are about problem), and never had to explain that it's inappropriate to fly the stars and bars in a town parade in the Northeast to anyone in the city. There are plenty of nice people in rural towns, but many of them work hard to earn their reputations, just like smug city dwellers who think they are better. They are all just annoying, prejudiced humans in their own ways.
Is it a political opinion to state a fact? The real statement being made though is actually that climate change is bad for humans and should be avoided. This isn't really up for debate as it is proven to have happened multiple times in history and caused the end or decline of major civilizations. We know humans are bad at dealing with massive climate change, especially ones that reduce farmable land or loving space. None of that is political. Politics only comes into play when you ask is convenience and profits now an acceptable payback for damage to future generations. Essentially are we responsible for taking care of future generations or should they take care of themselves? That's the political question.
In reading some of the other articles from the source link, the site makes some fairly large claims based on thin evidence and appears pretty anti American and pro Russian propaganda. I'm not sure the sure can claim to not be guilty of the very same thing it is claiming others are guilty of.
Those are concerns that should be addressed and taken into consideration. But as of right now, there is no evidence for this level of alarm. If that changes I'll be there first one to change my position.
You do realize vinegar is a plant killer right? Too much water is a plant killer, too much sun is a plant killer. There are insecticides that kill bugs that don't have an impact on humans. Starvation probably kills far more people than Roundup. I mean I hate Monsanto as a company too but literally you could die drinking too much water. If you cannot even define how something would impact humans wouldn't the appropriate way to determine that be to perform science? Just saying we don't know so it must be bad is literally the opposite of science. People used to think tomatoes were poisonous, they weren't. Tapioca was poisonous unless cooked. You routinely ingest poisonous metals in your food. Your argument has no place in a discussion about whether something is harmful. Evidence does, once we can define the harm, if any, we can determine whether we can mitigate it, whether it's a real risk factor, and whether it's risks outweigh the benefits. You must likely drive around in a vehicle that causes more cancer and harm to the environment than Roundup. Plastic bags don't decay for generations. We have literal known problems that we give less focus than a problem that isn't even proven to exist.
I'm not sure that this is news. No one who saw the deal expected it to pan out. While the town could certainly use the manufacturing, shouldn't the money and training breaks come after commitments are reached? The US could use more manufacturing of any kind to help fill the gap for low skilled workers, as I'm sure most US workers would be capable of being trained up, but this doesn't seem like the right to be of deal. Remember all the hubbub about picking winners and losers with Solyndra? Doesn't that seem like a small deal now when we consider the only reason US solar manufacturing lost out was maybe dumping by Chinese companies with finding directly from the Chinese government? I really hope that the new discovery of rare earth minerals Japan find pans out to break the stranglehold China currently possesses on it.
Glyphosate has been used for over 60 years. It works in a part of the plant that controls photosynthesis. No one is even sure how it would impact humans. Here's a podcast with some more information. They will update if better information comes in it disproves the previous assumptions.
I don't care what my neighbors do, however cutting long grass helps prevent tick and flea infestations in my area so it does have a purpose. The ticks especially enjoy the long grass. I do however work towards planting more permaculture in my yard so that there's less grass to cut. The grass provides an excellent ground cover and builds up the soil in the meantime.
We dropped DO from our company usage after similar issues, though honestly DO probably wasn't the right place for our product at that stage of development. What was meant as a POC became technical debt and an outage forced is to come to terms with the fact that by the time the issue happened we had more than enough of our own capacity to run on our own metal.
Kudos to DO for the open incident management. As someone who does this myself, these are often really painful and hard to get right.
There were failed social media platforms before Myspace and Facebook. If you'd have said Facebook would outgrow Myspace people would have thought you were crazy. At some point someone is going to unseat YouTube. It's going to take timing, luck, and a product that delivers something better or different than YouTube. Is this it? Who knows? Most likely not, but that's why you keep trying.
The other problem with cancer is that there are different types of cancer cells. There's the fast dividing and there's also the cancer stem cells which can lay dormant for years without dividing. This is the reason for most cancer returning. There's a promising new tech that hopefully pans out that activates these cells so standard chemo can attack them. Regarding clinical trials, they are very selective. You have to for a very specific criteria and your cancer needs to be measurable by a CT scanner typically to prove efficacy. Add to that the typical cancer patient is either a child or an older person and you're bound to have poorer results.
So... As a cancer patient myself going through chemo, I'll take the chemo over the cancer any day if the week. While some chemo treatments suck, it typically depends on what stage you're at, if you're curable, your comorbidities, and your personal genetics. I can say without any doubt whatsoever I'm alive right now because of chemo. Reducing the tumor allowed me to eat, which has kept me from wasting away into death. Survival times tend to increase with treatment, however quality of life of that survival time is reduced drastically for some people which I believe is what your point is not accurately reflecting, but again it's different for every single patient. I'm young, otherwise healthy, and I'm tolerating the chemo far better than expected with a far better response than average. I'm halfway through average expected survival time and if I live 2 more years I'll be drastically beating the odds. Right now that looks possible for me and that's because of the cancer treatment. There's also been a groundswell of new standard treatments, premeds, and novel treatments as better understanding of the disease in the past 10 years is just starting to bear fruit. If you look at survival rates of some common cancers in the United States many of them are downright not terrible odds of surviving through unless you catch them very late in their development.
The police shouldn't be associated with the Nazis here. There's no wide scale organised plan to wipe out an entire race. The number of truly rotten officers is in the minority or there would be more bright line evidence of horribles. Most actions caught by police aren't outright actions of intentional corruption or malice, they are improper or bad policing that goes unpunished, which is the real problem.
You can't be expected to punish the police when you need them to do your job, which is the position DAs are in. If they were to lose the trust if the police then they wouldn't have the super they need to go their job. A statewide role of internal enforcement that's separate from the DA and is an unelected role appointed by the governor or legislative body would likely be the best one could do for this role and provide the freedom to do the job effectively.
Add to that punishments should come out of the insurance funds for the force meaning police organizations that are truly terrible would get shut down when they could not afford their insurance. Also a national police database with all punitive actions against officers that is permanent and not removable unless ordered by a judge would go a long way to prevent officers who get punished in multiple locations from just moving to a new job.
Serpico the movie is based on real life corruption. I don't think this is a solvable problem without changing humanity it the role entirely. There's a saying, power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely. While there are most likely some officers who are above and beyond the best of humanity, most are likely average or below average due to the selection process and the type of people who would go into the field.
I can concur from a company that is not DO we hire workers in locations around the glove specifically to have people awake in their normal time zones, not because it's cheaper because it's not always cheaper. There are many countries that have a large portion of very intelligent and multi lingual people, especially when it comes to English. Just because someone isn't a native English speaker, or speaks in different dialect doesn't mean that they are any less capable.
What about the obligation to not put people at risk of death through ignorance? If the app itself is used as a suppression too that was not previously available and one can accidentally expose someone to literal death, then yes the app has an obligation to not do that as human beings. Pretty sure not exposing people to harm is an implicit agreement with their users. Maybe I'm wrong and Indians (where the software is made) don't think like most of the rest of human society, but I'm pretty sure they do and don't want people they converse with being put on government watch lists for simply being entered into a database without their consent or knowledge.
As much as I pay for services I use, many people don't have the ability or won't see it as important enough to fund. While you and I might see the purpose, I suspect those like us area in the minority.
I was trying to limit the context to recent times specially for this reason. You're absolutely correct, they won't get all the rights and privileges that previous people in power had, not should they. And you're correct that they won't receive those rights alone. However they should receive the benefits that they are entitled to by the efforts of their work and their character and the arc of history is slowly bending in that direction Unfortunately none of this means that there won't be an inevitable backlash against those who deserve it the least.
I am not required to host your speech on my platform. The only free speech protection that is guaranteed in the United States is from the government stifling a citizen's speech and even that is fairly limited with free speech overridden by safety and security concerns on a fairly regular basis. That a particular platform doesn't want your speech is their right under their ability to speak. You cannot be forced to advocate a position you do not agree with.
The persecution complex among predominantly white males right now is high because there's a significant social change occurring that is causing those who've been disadvantaged the same privileges that white males have enjoyed alone for much of recent human history. It's a natural human reaction to care more about loss than to see the potential upside. We've also seen this numerous times before. The rise of Nazism was the natural response to the harsh restrictions of WW1 which is why the Marshall plans included Germany in the rebuilding opportunities.
Many of those on the right address looking for power and utilize this gut reactionary response by those who feel disenfranchised for their own purposes. It's why fighting against a populist like President Trump with facts doesn't work. If reality don't fit the narrative, make a different reality. It's a very effective propaganda technique that usually requires an outside force to break. The US did something similar with the fight against communism and really had a hard time redefining Americanism once the Soviet Union collapsed. That's why the so called war on terror will never end. In order for America to be the good guys there needs to be bad people too. So in order for the alt-right to be the victim they either find villains on the left or they make them up. AOC is a perfect example of a toothless villain. She's a junior congresswomen with no real power, but she's constantly villainized far beyond the risk she poses to anyone on the right. Physically though she embodies the fears of white guys being replaced from their positions of power.
I'm going to say yes. You should be just as suspect of health claims and sustainability claims of a plant based burger. But there's generally science to back up that a plant based diet it both better for the environment and better for health reasons than a meat based diet. Does that mean you shouldn't eat meat? I mean, you do you, but if you care about the environment or health generally the veggie burgers are more likely than not to be more supportive of your belief system. If you don't care about either of those things, then I suppose you would choose on taste and that's a personal preference.
I've got a 5 star rating as well. I pretty much only take it from to and from the airport, I'm always on time at the spot I'm supposed to be and always tip. I just thought this was normal.
TPMS reset is usually holding a button and typically in your driver's manual for the vehicle. Found this out myself when my tires got replaced and they couldn't reset my TPMS sensors.
I wouldn't be too worried in BOS. There are multiple categories of companies in the area that work to keep a total collapse from happening. Further out west in the state you get problems, but not near BOS proper. It'll be a hit but then the rebound will be quick.
We have no tradespeople because Reagan and the Republicans broke the unions making trades less lucrative at the same time as importing cheap labor. This was an intentional outcome of political purpose. Now the pendulum had swung all the way the other way and we're short on skilled labor and they are against importing labor. It was all about breaking organised labor to create a permanent underclass, the same as in the gilded age. They forget the depression comes next.
