The only way I see it getting worse is generally nice and well intentioned people leaving because they don't like Musk, therefore making the space poorer.
For lack of a better way of describing it, I rather think in concepts, sometimes the voice in my head likes to play along by imagining the words representing those concepts, sometimes in English, sometimes in Romanian, but the words are not necessary.
In dev words, I guess I think in structs and then optionally serialize those structs in En/Ro (JSON).
As an adult, if I try to more strongly tap into my flavour of synesthesia, it starts to feel "made up"; Example, if I query my brain for "what's associated with 2" the response will be "orange, (but I think I just generated that now)" so I sadly kind of dismiss it.
- Short Left Shift and extra 1x1 key right of it, in ISO
- Enter key being 2x1 in ANSI and a weird tall shape in ISO
I do prefer the ANSI enter key nowadays, but I use ISO because of availability in Europe. I could move to ANSI but my work laptop would still be ISO for example.
For keyboard layouts, I use 'Romanian - Programmers' (Which is US English + the extra Romanian diacritics are made with a key combo, AltGr + A = Ă, AltGr + S = Ș, etc). I had made the change as using the Romanian - Standard layout would've made crazy difficult to type special characters: []{};'\:"|,./<>?.
What I would like to see discussed is how a true successor to QUERTY would look like, one that's not dependent on physical typewriter arms not getting stuck together, possibly an ortholinear.
It was there for about 12-18 months, but it slowly started to go away to the point I had to pause for a minute to remember if the left/right one was more affected. After 9-12 months I was only able to hear it if I was wearing ear plugs, and now I need to wear ear plugs and really concentrate to realize that it's not 100% silence, but it's close to 1-5% of what it was and even the "tone" of the tinnitus is more muted.
I'm not sure if they genuinely healed, if there even is such thing as temporary tinnitus (for more than a day/week), or if my brain just got better at filtering that out.
I have been passionate about programming for a long while, figured it out at 14, slowly kept going upwards doing online courses, ended up doing CS in Uni at 19, did an industrial placement where I felt like I grew tremendously. At 22 it felt like my fuel has ran out, I had a terrible final year in Uni, Covid hit, I was terribly burnt out and I have not felt as passionate at my job since.
I'm just now slowly getting back into actually loving computing and delving deep into the things that I didn't have a chance to so far, like IoT projects, functional programming, compilers etc. I'm also really lucky to be working for a company and in a team where it's understood and accepted that we don't run at full capacity all the time, and given freedom to put as much as I want on my plate for a while.
I would throw in my two cents with the following idea: I would love a modern, well made collection of classical games such as the one linked, available on many platforms, with cloud saves, even to the point of which game was picked. I would love to decompress by playing Solitaire for 5 mins in my lunch break on my iPhone, come home, open the computer and finish the game up on the big screen and enjoy the cards jumping all over the place.
