caekislove··on Bluesky is on the verge of overtaking Threads in all the ways that matter
>A verification badge used to signal trustworthiness, now it can be bought.

They gave those out to Gawker bloggers. The only think the OG blue checkmark stood for was "someone who was friends with a Twitter insider".

caekislove··on Bluesky is ushering in a pick-your-own algorithm era of social media
I'm old enough to remember when the media tried to astroturf Threads like this.
caekislove··on Kids Can't Read Books
This. It used to be not that uncommon for kids to arrive in Kindergarten already capable of reading and writing. Now it's not that uncommon to see kids graduating high school unable to read and write. Our education system is a disgrace.
caekislove··on Sony had the year from hell, with high profile flops on every screen imaginable
Moving the HQ of the gaming and movie business to California was a mistake. Sony needs to return to its roots and base all major decision-making in Japan.

caekislove··on Tesla has the highest fatal accident rate of all auto brands, study finds
They are like this literally any time a Republican is in the White House. They were like this when Dubya was President too, even though today they act like he's some sort of elder statesman just because he hates Trump.
caekislove··on Maybe Bluesky has "won"
Imma let you finish, but since Trump won the popular vote by millions of votes, the word "reasonable" is doing a lot of heavy lifting there.
caekislove··on A mistake that killed Japan's software industry? (2023)
I think the poster intended to make a contrast between US postwar vassals versus Soviet postwar vassals.
caekislove··on Maybe Bluesky has "won"
If "Twitter, but decentralized" was compelling to the average social media user, Mastodon would have eaten the world years ago.
caekislove··on Maybe Bluesky has "won"
Get real. It's a liberal echo chamber. 90%+ of the posts there are anti-Trump and/or anti-Musk.
caekislove··on Google AI chatbot responds with a threatening message: "Human Please die."
A chatbot has no wishes or desires. Any output that isn't responsive to the prompt is, by definition, a "hallucination".
caekislove··on Google AI chatbot responds with a threatening message: "Human Please die."
Google has deleted the chat from their site but here is an archive. It's at the end and seemingly out of nowhere.

caekislove··on TSMC to close door on producing advanced AI chips for China from Monday
People are going to have to get real creative to square this with the "One China" policy.

The China whose economy has been imploding over the last year? good luck to Europe if they want to emulate the Chicoms.*eyeroll emoji*
caekislove··on Trump wins presidency for second time
That's great to hear!
caekislove··on Ask HN: What will change in the next administration?
More entertaining Presidential tweets. That's about it.
caekislove··on Trump wins presidency for second time
Because everyone besides Bernie dropped out right before Super Tuesday and endorsed Biden, hoping to get appointments in a future Biden Admin. Many, like Buttigeg were well rewarded for this.
caekislove··on What if cities legalized adult dorms?
If they did, the police might as well just keep officers stationed there 24/7 since they'll be getting called hourly.
caekislove··on Apple to Face First EU Fine Under Bloc's Digital Markets Act
These "You broke our arbitrary rules, therefore we fine you x% of your income" schemes are just a roundabout way for the EU to put an income tax on foreign corporations. It's going to blow up in their faces when companies start deciding that access to a shrinking European market just isn't worth the cost and hassle.

So they don't want to hang out with expats but they also can't be bothered to learn the local language? Not surprising they aren't doing well socially.
