bvxvbxbxb··on Scientists who make apps addictive
Captology and behavior design are, to a degree, marketing wank that sells courses, lectures, speeches, books and consulting gigs... because it's fluffy idealism PR people want to buy into. Sure you can fool most of the people some of the time, a few of the people all of the time, but you can never...
bvxvbxbxb··on Rare microbes lead scientists to discover new branch on the tree of life
Archaea are also interesting as they are simple Prokaryotes but lack a nucleus.
bvxvbxbxb··on Man Sues Airline for Sitting Him 'Next to Obese Man'
If someone doesn't want to sit next to an obese man on a flight, get up and leave. Flying isn't yet legalized kidnapping.
bvxvbxbxb··on What the Lion Air Pilots May Have Needed to Do to Avoid a Crash
Air crash investigators collect evidence and don't bother speculating because of the multiple possible scenarios: eg, open mind getting it right with patience vs. closed mind getting it wrong now with speculation because they have to feed their own, "superior" ego to "declare" the "cause"... as right as often as a know-nothing know-it all.
bvxvbxbxb··on C.I.A. Concludes That Saudi Crown Prince Ordered Khashoggi Killed
My mechanic from Dubai concluded this 5 weeks ago.. nothing in Saudi Arabia moves without MBS ordering it. Most likely, MBS watched the killing, and possibly dismemberment, live via encrypted video link.
bvxvbxbxb··on Suicide increasing among American workers
Wrong. You're conflating crisis care with on-going care. Crisis care maybe free, but on-going care is definitely expensive in the US. Crisis care is no substitute for on-going care because it's a bandaid.
bvxvbxbxb··on Study finds reducing carbs and replacing with fats leads to increased metabolism
Being sedentary leads to a host of maladies, while constantly doing bootcamps, overtraining, pro sports or cross-continental marathons causes enormous oxidative stress, tissue damage and more risks of premature wear, cancer and aging... so there's a happy medium for a healthy, good quality of and longer life.

Also, between catabolic processes that destroy the body to keep it going and binge eating, there's a happy amount of fasting and cutting calories to a sustainable amount... lipogenesis, ULDLs, and VLDLs generally aren't good.

bvxvbxbxb··on Kim Kardashian's Private Firefighters Expose the Fault Lines of America
most of 13th amendment's text pertains to the slavery loophole that Lincoln signed. It was clearly written to not end slavery, but disadvantage minorities and poor people for a perpetually-immobile and captive workforce that would be nearly as cheap as outright owning people in another form of involuntary captivity.
bvxvbxbxb··on Kim Kardashian's Private Firefighters Expose the Fault Lines of America
Fuck Malibu residents and their blocking of beach access, fake signs and generally-selfish chicanery.

bvxvbxbxb··on The BBC is wrong: university censorship is definitely not a myth
GCU is that "alternative facts," anti-science, magical thinking "university." They have the money and the Christian cult (Chris Hedges' words) to pull it off.
bvxvbxbxb··on Drzymała's wagon
Some homeless people get wheelchairs to circumvent "sit-lie" local ordinances.
bvxvbxbxb··on Credit Card Chips Have Failed to Halt Fraud (So Far)
Until North America deploys PIN and/or TFA, most carder fraud gambits done today will continue.

Also, it's 2018 and no one compares signatures and there's no carbon copy manual credit card sliders anymore, so can we draw obscene doodles until they drop this theater?

bvxvbxbxb··on Why one of America’s richest states is also its poorest
Read the news articles on the subject. There's a vast number of gainfully-employed people whom don't wish to fritter their relatively meager earnings away on techie-inflated rent. Most people in the area cannot legitimately afford to live there as they would be spending more than a sensible amount on housing because they can't ever hope to earn enough to be considered middle-class. Still, the area needs janitors, cooks, teachers, bus drivers, human resources and more non-techies whom rarely make much in a normal American city. Instead, they make some sacrifices to keep more of what they earn and opt-out of following the other lemming off the cliff into perpetual debt peonage.
bvxvbxbxb··on Why one of America’s richest states is also its poorest
It's true but it's horrible. It's called homeless dumping, similar to hospital patient dumping. Pencil-pushers use it to play games with citizens they view as "liabilities," rather than as human-beings.
bvxvbxbxb··on Why one of America’s richest states is also its poorest
There's homeless people living on the sides of highway on-ramps in the Bay Area. 30 years ago, this wasn't a thing, but it's gone too far: not that the people need to be busted up and bus-ticketed elsewhere, but rather civil society has broken down and failed to provide for people.
bvxvbxbxb··on LA Is Trying to Fix Its Prostitution Problem by Banning Right Turns at Night
America is doing everything it can to run a Prohibition War on Prostitution by driving it further underground and over-criminalizing poor and vulnerable people (with the other 8 million in prison, more per capita than any other country, save Seychelles, and possibly China with the Uygur concentration camps). The moral panic "war" is lost: regulate and let people live. It works in the UK and Europe. Oh yeah, American porn is somehow legal prostitution with a video camera because it's "art" and "professional." Consistency fail too. Maybe start making lots more "porn" that satisfies legal requirements and then the oldest profession becomes legal.
bvxvbxbxb··on The cost of keeping Singapore squeaky clean
One can usually tell which countries have experienced terrorism, or at least pondered it, by the type and construction of trash receptacles. America has many tens of thousands of thick decorative stone, concrete and metal public trash receptacles vulnerable to bombings. When that happens, they will be gone, but rarely before.

Last time I was in Victoria Station in London, there was one alumin(i)um hoop with a clear trash bag, emptied constantly.
