bunkydoo··on Is it still possible to get away with a heist?
Of course it is, it just happens to look nothing like it did before the advent of the internet.
bunkydoo··on f.lux for iOS is no longer available
Namely why I stopped using an iPhone long ago, damn these bastards for making such good computers though...
bunkydoo··on Pentagon Has No Idea Where $800M Went
I think they probably do know, it's likely just excess spending on internal programs that probably failed and were later merged with bigger projects in a sense 'laundering' the money from public scrutiny. I mean just look at the CIA's mind control program from the 50's to 70's, they probably blew billions on a program that just got a few people on the government's payroll zonked on acid, scarred a few for life, and ultimately just led to the giant crowd of hippies on the white house lawn. Which hey, I say makes it money well spent! But tough to follow as far as a paper trail is concerned.
bunkydoo··on Six Degrees of Francis Bacon
It would be kind of neat to extend semantic search and social graphing to older works - really neat to see how different minds' work interweaves throughout history.
bunkydoo··on IBM is still making ThinkPad keyboards
It was kindof a shame when they moved to chiclet keys a few years back. The keystrokes felt much different after that transition, and I can't say it was an improvement.
bunkydoo··on Olbers' paradox
It might seem like a paradox from our perspective, but there is good possibility that like fish in water - our senses & instruments just haven't evolved to perceive and function out of water (off earth) A good possible explanation would be that the seemingly empty void of space is chalk full of dark matter scientists assume makes up 95% of the universe and our eyes can't see it like a dog can't see color, and this invisible matter might someday end up being a biological commodity to future beings that evolve from us just like fresh air is to our lungs.

The universe might look like a cerulean sky, we just haven't evolved to see it that way yet.

bunkydoo··on NASA estimates 1B ‘Earths’ in our galaxy alone
Life is probably pretty common, Intelligence... well we may just be alone in our neck of the woods until we create more.
bunkydoo··on Amazon Is Now Worth More Than Wal-Mart
Amazon should try their hand at brick and mortar. I would love to see less Wal-Marts
bunkydoo··on iLoo
Forget Dr. Who's 'Tardis' - Call this the 'Turdis'
bunkydoo··on Why we're all-in on virtual reality
I think VR is going to end up being an intellectual holocaust if it keeps going the direction it is going, people designing the technologies seem to view it as a way to keep the "inferior" contained in a world that caters to their every emotional desire.

Just look at all the porn and gaming comments..

Augmented Reality is the real way to go, VR simulations have their time and place - but this technology is nothing more than an overinflated dream from 80's sci fi.

bunkydoo··on Google got it wrong. The open-office trend is destroying the workplace
If you don't like this, why not go start your own company or find a new job? There is nothing forcing you to stay in this job. I for one have to agree that the communal aspect of working in an open office has its benefits and downfalls. But if one day I came in and didn't like it to the level you described - I'd quit and go find a job where I can get right with myself.
bunkydoo··on Internet.org Is Not Neutral, Not Secure, and Not the Internet
2/3 of humanity isn't connected to the internet they say, but the problem here is that 2/3 of the population probably isn't having their basic needs met on a day to day basis. Just take for example the bathroom situation in India, let alone Africa. I don't think these people give much of a damn about getting on the internet to update their status.
bunkydoo··on Apple Releases new MacBook Pros with Force Touch Trackpad
Really don't like the force touch trackpad for some reason... it feels a lot like the old macbook pro trackpad after years of use - kinda damp and spongey. There is nothing like the 'pop' of a new Mac trackpad, but I guess those days are over... ha.
bunkydoo··on The Next Wave
Well, this is likely where any of NASA's potential funding for the past 20+ years has gone.
bunkydoo··on Ambitious teenagers are flooding into San Francisco
I wonder what that digital scale on the kid's desk is used for, hmmmm....
bunkydoo··on NASA's Curiosity Eyes Prominent Mineral Veins on Mars
I believe there is a loophole in this very treaty due to the fact that it only outlines these rules for nations as opposed to private entities.
bunkydoo··on How a $3.85 latte paid for with a fake $100 bill led to counterfeiter's downfall
Its idiots like these guys that ruin grey markets and the deepweb for everyone...
bunkydoo··on How To Think About Chess
I like this. I've been getting back into chess as of lately and I keep a board on my desk while I do work on my laptop. Here's my strategy for playing 'solitaire chess' as I call it - I make a move, then I move a poker chip to the side whose turn it is, I go back to doing whatever I was doing on my laptop for a while (until I forget the game entirely), then I return and make another move. Then I rinse and repeat this process until the game is over - it's amazing how rapidly this improves your strategy compared to playing against another person or a computer. Because as they say - you are your own worst enemy... Or most brutal competitor as I like to think ;)
bunkydoo··on Meteor 1.1 Released – Now Supporting Microsoft Windows and MongoDB 3.0
I've been working with meteor since 0.6.3 and I have had only great experiences with it. I've been going to the meetups in my area which has brought me together with a great community of developers from all sorts of backgrounds - and even connected me with people from across the world via webcast. Nothing but good vibes and support in this community. I saw someone commented with the Discover Meteor book link, and that is the perfect place to start - you need literally zero coding experience to build a production quality app within an afternoon. Also be sure to check out the Telescope project (http://www.telescopeapp.org/) put together by one of the co-authors, Sacha Grief - a designer out of Osaka. He is seriously one of the most dedicated, helpful people out there when it comes to Meteor and I can guarantee if you email him he will respond with help :)

So it begins... Prepare yourselves brethren
bunkydoo··on $149 Chromebooks
I'm interested to see more about the build quality and durability of these machines. Typically chromebooks have delivered an above average experience for the price.
bunkydoo··on Fertility Is Kaput, but Life Goes On
This is interesting. I have wondered for quite some time now if the millennial generation will be subject to mass infertility in their 30's due to constant cell phone radiation near the genitals. Obviously this won't be the end of the world, but it may certainly cause a drop in planned pregnancy. Fertility drugs are typically seen as rolling the dice, so maybe adoption will become the way of the future - who knows?
bunkydoo··on Windows 1.0 emulator
Fun :) thank you.

bunkydoo··on How Mushrooms Could Hold the Key to Our Long-Term Survival as a Species
It's almost like nature has code behind it we can fork and iterate upon
bunkydoo··on I’ve Joined the White House’s U.S. Digital Service
Congrats, now just don't follow the lead of the secret service by drinking on the job and letting people over the fence
bunkydoo··on Psychedelics and Psychotherapy
Well, another one of these posts. Let's beat this topic to death even more.

But real talk, it would be cool if steps were taken forward to change the way these substances were treated legally and what-not.

bunkydoo··on Parents with annual family incomes below $125,000 will pay no tuition
Well, when the whole world found out how easy it was to cheat at Stanford this morning - they just said fuck it and made it free.

bunkydoo··on Good Samaritan Backfire (How I Ended Up in Solitary After Calling 911 for Help)
Moral of the story? Never talk to the police. But have fun cashing in on that lawsuit, wheeeewie!
