buggy6257··on Deutsche Bahn "joke" is no longer funny
> And despite it all, the complaints are so numerous because the number of passengers and the number of trains is also so numerous! If a train on a track with 3 trains a day in France gets delayed, there will be no knock on effect on any other train. A delay to a train on a track with 3 trains every 10 minutes in Germany will have a much larger impact.

Okay sooo…explain japans nearly flawless record of trains? The whole country is littered with them.

This guy did a single train trip and experienced no delays there and has decided this is the factual experience for the entire history of the rail line. This joke became a joke for a reason. What an absurd article.

I’ve never experienced a delay on a delta flight in my life (having flown the for almost every flight) but that doesn’t mean they don’t have delays.

buggy6257··on Show HN: Hacker News, without AI
At the bottom of the linked site, it says "79 of 179 submissions survived the filter" so if only ~44% survived I'd say that counts as "prevalent" yeah.
buggy6257··on Weird Al Yankovic Pulled Out of AI Ad Deal: 'I Can't Be the Poster Boy for AI'
My favorite response to this was a fellow dev who immediately replied “you let your printer near a GUN?!”
buggy6257··on "Don't You Just Upload It to ChatGPT?"
Now I’m wondering if “still” is meant to be short for “distill”…
buggy6257··on SpaceX, Other Mega IPOs Denied Fast Index Entry by S&P
Two of those YouTube links are to Patrick Boyle who is a very respectable and knowledgeable ex hedge fund manager who dives DEEP into the topic while remaining entertaining. It’s a hilariously outdated take to say that YouTube content guarantees a lack of value or authority.
buggy6257··on What Is a Dickover?
FYI it took me 3 clicks of “next” to hit a page with a cookie dickover. Might need to tweak the filter.
buggy6257··on Richard Dawkins and The Claude Delusion: The great skeptic gets taken in
Boy are you in for a surprise.
buggy6257··on Mike: open-source legal AI

buggy6257··on Stop trying to engineer your way out of listening to people
> Tonnes of frameworks around this concept, so I won't repeat what others have done decently already. Jobs To Be Done, Outcome Driven Innovation, and in the UX camp, empathy mapping.

Totally understand, but I would love if the author included links to these other things for articles/etc they thought did a good enough job not to repeat them!

buggy6257··on Ask HN: What's your biggest pain point when joining a new developer team?
You should take a look at CODEOWNERS file specs
buggy6257··on Tesla kills Autopilot, locks lane-keeping behind $99/month fee
My 5 year old Subaru has been able to lane keep and auto follow to the point that a 2h drive on the freeway is me tapping the wheel every ten seconds to keep it enabled while I watch for idiots. It has been able to do this since I bought it, and I haven’t paid a dime extra. Car cost 30k.
buggy6257··on AI Usage Policy
Your boss sounds hilarious naive to how the world works.
buggy6257··on Giving university exams in the age of chatbots
Don’t compare LLMs to calculators. Only one of those is deterministic.
buggy6257··on OpenAI will start testing ads in ChatGPT free and Go tiers
My dude adding ads to a free product after locking people into using it for free is LITERALLY the example used by Doctorow in his original article[1] that COINED the term “enshittification”. It couldn’t be more accurate if you tried.

buggy6257··on Cursor's latest “browser experiment” implied success without evidence
Literally happened at work. Breathless thread of people saying how insane it was and then we got to link this and it immediately 180-ed and everyone was like “holy shit that’s messed up”
buggy6257··on Ask HN: How does one stay motivated to grind through LeetCode?
A) no they can’t

B) if they can, how’s that working out for you?

C) you’re saying if I make myself suffer for several months I can have the privilege to work at one of the single worst companies on the face of this earth? _sign me the fuck up_

buggy6257··on Ask HN: How does one stay motivated to grind through LeetCode?
Good lord based on these comments I am so glad to not live in the same bubble y’all seem to be in.

13 years as a dev, many jobs, countless interviews, and I have never once solved, been asked to solve, or even attempted to solve a leetcode problem.

Reading people talking about what they do here it sounds like voluntary torture. I would quit being a dev if that’s what it took.

OP: I’m saying maybe you don’t have to join them. Get out of the mindset. Find jobs that value your time.

buggy6257··on Why we migrated from Python to Node.js
I work at a company doing full-stack Elixir with most of our devs all heavily using AI as they please to augment their workflow, and our CTO was genuinely concerned that our main competitor, a Python shop, had a leg-up on us for this exact reason.

He spent time running benchmarks for 0-1 apps and all kinds of other metrics and found basically no appreciable difference in the speed or accuracy of AI at generating Elixir vs. Python. Maybe some difference, but honestly it just doesn't exist enough to matter.

buggy6257··on My first impressions of Gleam

buggy6257··on Why are there so many rationalist cults?
well now i finally have a good blog name for the blog i'll never start.
buggy6257··on Ask HN: What do you dislike about ChatGPT and what needs improving?
I would take Spacey's character from Baby Driver.
buggy6257··on I couldn't submit a PR, so I got hired and fixed it myself
This is what I’ve been forced to do for years and I’m sick of it lol
buggy6257··on I couldn't submit a PR, so I got hired and fixed it myself
I specifically attempted to get a job at Discord so I could submit a PR to make giant emojis be a toggle setting rather than automatic. I know the feeling.

(If anyone works at Discord, please me and the rest of my server are begging you)

buggy6257··on How Anthropic teams use Claude Code
@dang looks like HN ate the leading “How” in the title.
buggy6257··on Ask HN: What is a physiically disabled person to do in this job market?
I do not have the same physical situation as you but was out of work for 7 months with similar experience level and got to the “offer or no” with 10 companies Before I finally got a job thanks to a referral and good interview.

What I’m saying here is that (a) your time in the market isn’t absurd for this current economy, and (b) it’s also not provably due to your disability so don’t go blaming that without proof or you’ll talk yourself into giving up. Shits HARD right now man just keep trying and focus hard on networking and referrals. It seems the only way to get a job right now

buggy6257··on Thnickels
you would be both surprised and deeply sad by how many downvotes and comments they would get if they removed the /s
buggy6257··on Career advice, or something like it
For me in every startup I’ve worked this ended up just being a self selecting group slack DM where we would mock things. We didn’t hate the places but there’s always stuff to have fun with like that. We would just recognize each other and keep adding people.
buggy6257··on I started with a SQL question. He said "that's a dumb question."
Honestly if I was interviewing, even if you told me the future and this was the outcome of hiring the guy, I still wouldn't hire him.

It's clear he's brilliant, and experienced, and seems like he's just refusing to "play the game". Speaking truth to power works if you know when to also NOT do it, or how to do it in a way that gets people to listen.

It doesn't really matter how brilliant a guy is; if he's not capable of "playing the game", then he's going to be (and WAS) out on his ass within a short timespan. That's a sink on my team's resources having to hire AGAIN and train AGAIN so short after his hiring. I don't want brilliant jerks, I'd rather have someone decent who can stick around by not getting himself fired for saying the wrong thing to the wrong person.
