bufferout··on Monkey MindPong
Human/animal ethics is a minefield of hypocrisy. Why are we mostly comfortable with performing these types of experiments on other lower-IQ species but would baulk at doing them on intellectually-handicapped children for instance?

I believe our morality base for these types of decisions is mostly based on the religious traditions of humans somehow being 'special' in the scheme of things. Domestic pets also partially fall into this category.

To counter with an extreme example: plenty of medical progress was made via Nazi and Japanese experiments on live subjects during the second world war. So no, categorically the ends does not always justify the means.
bufferout··on Monkey MindPong
The assumption being that human lives are far more valuable than non-human lives.

Where it gets funky though is trying to quantify that to an extent: how many monkey disfigurements is worth fixing one human disfigurement? Ten? A thousand?

How many chimps would you blind in order to prevent humans being blinded by the latest lash extension cosmetic?

bufferout··on Why You Should Take Any Vaccine
"Children's Health Defense is an American 501c3 nonprofit advocacy organization,[1] known for its anti-vaccine activism. According to Seth Mnookin, much of the material put forth by the organization involves misinformation on vaccines and anti-vaccine propaganda.[2] It was founded and is chaired by Robert F. Kennedy Jr.[3] Established under the name World Mercury Project in 2016, it has been campaigning against various public health programs, such as vaccination and fluoridation of drinking water."

Fun fact: despite being an apex predator, there are no recorded human fatalities from orcas in the wild.

If you ignore places like Australia that locked down hard and early. Melbourne experienced a near total 3 month lockdown for example. The result? Pretty much zero local cases now and life back to normal, sans international travel.

Can you explain what Pelosi's Chinatown visit has to do with flight cancellations. And also who called Trump a racist for proposing flight bans.
bufferout··on Stripe bans Trump campaign
There's clearly a line in the sand to be made somewhere here e.g. funding child pornography or terrorism. The easy answer for Stripe is "we ban any account that promotes illegal activity". In that sense, I can see the rationale of banning a political campaign that has clearly fomented an attempt at circumvent a legal civil process.

Just snakes, spiders and the occasional drop bear. The risk is exaggerated though: 2 snake bite fatalities last year in total, 1 spider bite fatality in the last few decades.
