bsoqk··on Canada welcomes EU proposal to become 'associate member'
It’s a win-win scenario for wealthy people. Poor people always get screwed in any kind of free trade deal, since prices of goods always rise to the highest possible point in the entire free trade zone.
bsoqk··on Steve Wozniak launches merch store
Years ago I shat on Woz here because he kept doing more and more histrionic things to stay relevant. That was years before his crypto. Obviously my comments got flagged. Good to be vindicated.
bsoqk··on There's a 100% Chance AI Agents Are Ruining the Internet
Most of those contractors have so much work that scaring away customers is a feature.
bsoqk··on Suspected sabotage causes major Netherlands rail disruption
Putin must be really happy - whatever happens in Europe, he's blamed for it, making him look omnipotent. Most countries would love to have that kind of power.

It’s so much more likely to be the farmers, but it's easier to blame Putin and do nothing about it than it is to stop ruining the farmers and risk angering the cosmopolitan politicians whose votes in the parliament you need.

bsoqk··on Steam Frame starts at $1059
Tangentially related: If I wanted to play Half-Life: Alyx, and spend as little money as possible whilst still having a good experience, what do I need? (I already own a beefy desktop computer)
bsoqk··on Kenyans Did College Students' Homework for Years. Then A.I. Arrived
With dietary fraud you’re only defrauding yourself.
bsoqk··on Feeling Sad about AI
It’s interesting to me that people find so much meaning in their jobs. To me work is just the means to obtain the money I need to actually live my life.
bsoqk··on Mexican student creates an acoustic fire extinguisher to put out fire in seconds
"Cool clock, Ahmed"
bsoqk··on Google will buy half the electricity from one of Finland's nuclear power plants
Are you sure King Richard would do that? I don’t think he would do that at all. Being king is good because you’re above everybody else.
bsoqk··on What algorithm did Windows XP use to choose your initial user picture?
https://devblogs.microsoft.com/oldnewthing/20040331-00/?p=39...

>During the Luna studies, that people’s reaction to Luna was often, “Wow this would be a great UI for X,” where X was “my dad” or “my employees” or “my daughter”. People didn’t look at it as the UI for themselves; rather, they thought it was a great UI for somebody else.

(Luna is the name of the default look of Windows XP)

bsoqk··on “Tweet” and the bird logo apparently enter the public domain
Not all outcries have to be entertained.
bsoqk··on Real photos of young girls were in nudify-app ads on Facebook, Instagram
>the Tech Transparency Project (TTP) reported that Meta failed to detect 332 ads containing CSAM this year

Considering the amount of ads they handle that seems... reasonable?

Not to mention the stupidity of calling the result of nudify apps "CSAM" when no minors in situation of sexual abuse are used in any way to generate those photos.

bsoqk··on Making Teenagers Read Newspapers. A Nationwide Experiment in French High Schools
Maybe they should have used Arabic words.
bsoqk··on Mistral raises €3B
>They're also landing big customers in Europe for the right reasons.

We've been migrating all of our AI automations from Gemini to Mistral because of the fear of data transfer regulations. Maybe they don't apply to us (we don't really feed personal data to AI), but we can't afford to find out.

It's been quite annoying too because the Mistral documentation and dashboards are all over the place.

Fear of fines... that's not what I would call "the right reasons".

bsoqk··on We have a year to fix security everywhere
So, like humans? Code didn't just appear in my brain, I learnt it from reading it everywhere else.
bsoqk··on Nitter and XCancel resume service after legal advice
We stopped having APIs because of Cambridge Analytica.
bsoqk··on South African diamond mines are closing due to weak sales and lab-grown stones
> The market for natural diamonds will cease to exist when you can buy lab-grown versions for a couple bucks.

Just like the luxury watches market ceased to exist when you could buy quartz watches for 10 bucks.

bsoqk··on Git hosting that never leaves Europe
They also don’t allow code about cryptocurrencies.

They are strongly ideology-focused and it’s a matter of time they ban something you want to upload.

bsoqk··on AI handles incidents, engineers lose touch with their systems
>The more I use it, the more I have to rely on it to make changes/ fix things in the same system. In the end, I come out feeling empty; no intuitive knowledge of the system "I" built or fixed.

Most of us build a system to deliver a product to make money. We don't feel empty for not knowing how the system works, since we don't really care: it's just a means to an end.

bsoqk··on Nitter has more working instances than before the takedowns
Have you tried blocking him? It’s always seemed an effective strategy to me when I want to stop seeing someone online.
