broodbucket··on We're working on a new RuneScape MMO
Source: I made it up, apparently, my memory failed me and they never went to prison. They just owed Blizzard $88594539.
broodbucket··on We're working on a new RuneScape MMO
They very famously did not ignore it, with the whole "you think you want that but you don't", the shutdown of Nostalrius and so on. People were going to jail for WoW private servers before 2010
broodbucket··on We're working on a new RuneScape MMO
Same thing happened to Blizzard
broodbucket··on OpenBSD Developers Reject Uutils Coreutils
Bit hostile. I get the point that it's unnecessary, but the whole "agenda" thing feels kneejerk. Just say that being written in Rust isn't a good enough reason for adoption.
broodbucket··on Pi 1.0
Much like Arch you need to have a decent idea of what you want first. As a 15+ year Arch user I used to decry people using Manjaro or the like, now I'm using omp, so I get the appeal
broodbucket··on Singapore govt dating app uses Gale-Shapley stable marriage algorithm
The UK are at least vaguely equal opportunity authoritarians, and their police will arrest both the angry dad posting on Facebook about immigrants and the pensioner peacefully protesting in support of Palestine all the same
broodbucket··on Singapore govt dating app uses Gale-Shapley stable marriage algorithm
Australia doesn't have those either, despite many people assuming we do (including most people who live here).
broodbucket··on CS240 AI Cheating Retrospective
This was in...2013? I think the main point was just to stop students from footgunning themselves
broodbucket··on Gitea 28.0
It is kind of nuts how seemingly a generation of programmers came to think Git = GitHub
broodbucket··on CS240 AI Cheating Retrospective
My professor in a C course said anyone that uses `goto` gets failed. It was quite liberating for me to then end up writing `goto`s for a living
broodbucket··on Google ending ChromeOS support two years early
Schools, sadly for the students.
broodbucket··on Show HN: Raven – The harness of harnesses, built for RSI
We gotta do something about these clashing TLAs.
broodbucket··on Sonnet 5.5
Give omp a try.
broodbucket··on GrapheneOS – When an app is slow
Waze works perfectly fine for me
broodbucket··on When did Google get so weird?
I'm not sure about this. I know complete normies that lament how bad Google is now and how often the search is useless. I think many people just want search to search.
broodbucket··on DeepSeek Elastic Compute (DSec)
I'm actually the most innovative, I've written thousands of papers advancing the state of human knowledge. They're just in my basement and I don't show anyone.
broodbucket··on PipePipe: NewPipe hard fork implementing SponsorBlock
Limusic on desktop has been good for me too
broodbucket··on How to keep enjoying programming in a world of LLMs
That's great for you, but you're completely devoid of empathy if you can't understand these posts. For many, many people, the things that are left are not the enjoyable ones. People have built hobbies and careers around doing something they love and its relevance is evaporating at an unprecedented rate.
broodbucket··on MiMo v2.6
Apologies for not taking the time to find it, but there was a post that tried to determine if the pelican was benchmaxxed across a bunch of models by comparing it to other SVGs, and found that it wasn't at all.
broodbucket··on GLM Built Its Own Inference Infrastructure
Yeah it went from a great deal to unviable compared to other providers imo. They really need to find a healthy middle ground
broodbucket··on OpenSpec – A lightweight and configurable AI spec framework
If you're writing design documentation to /tmp you're not the target audience for this kind of thing
broodbucket··on I can't stop thinking about Papua New Guinea
Some players do manage to be eligible for both, you just can't swap once you've decided
broodbucket··on I can't stop thinking about Papua New Guinea
It's safe to say they're both highly watched in PNG, Origin is just more of an event (a three game series, compared to the NRL which is a full season + playoffs). It's the same two sides every game, you're maroon or you're blue. Meanwhile there's 17 clubs in the NRL, I assume people from abroad pick one arbitrarily, of which only two clubs are going to make the grand final every year.
broodbucket··on Steam Frame starts at $1059
Barrier to entry can't be that extreme given it's full of kids.
broodbucket··on I can't stop thinking about Papua New Guinea
Random PNG fun facts: their most watched sporting event is State of Origin, a rugby league competition between two Australian states, over which many people have died in PNG. Australia recently allowed them a team in the NRL, its premier rugby league competition, essentially in exchange for PNG not signing a security agreement with China like the Solomon Islands did.
broodbucket··on For AI leaders Doom is a form of hype
Given Doom is capitalised in the title but the rest of the title isn't in title case, not at all, it's a sensible way for your brain to read it.
broodbucket··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (September 2026)
People don't say when they vibe code things but it's still very obvious.
broodbucket··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (September 2026)
Learned anything interesting game-wise in watching the StS bot learn? Is Silent/Watcher just a matter of going through all the training again?
broodbucket··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (September 2026)
Please, yes. Half of the fun of being on HN was "Show HN: I made some random thing", which typically amounts to "look at what prompt I wrote" nowadays. I use agents every day, I'm not against it, but it completely changes the lens through which I view a project
broodbucket··on Show HN: Stuxnet – A reconstructed source code of the infamous cyber-weapon
If you're going to spend tokens on the RE for this, it would've been nice to spend some tokens documenting it or making it easier to navigate
