Oracle is the canary.
When I looked on the disk, I saw that the pictures were listed as, eg LADY01 up to LADY05.
11 year old me was pretty excited when I thought, "what would happen if I renamed the files?"...
Those BC250 are 1/3 the price. Or is that just because they're old?
I, and probably a lot of the people here, spend so much time on the PC that every additional msec annoys me. If there's keyboard shortcut, then I'll learn it to avoid using the mouse.
Windows being a bloated slow mess even when run locally means that using it remotely all the time would be like torture.
I'm sure dealing with the 4k60 videos from my cameras would be a world of pain on the cloud too.
I don't need or want to pay a subscription for the tool I use for hours a day, with no advantages beyond vendor lock-in.
You need a computer either way... remote is basically all negatives when compared to local.
You are probably correct about 90% however.
90% of people are pretty ignorant about how their computers work, or how to use them more efficiently. They line up like lemmings to lose autonomy over their devices and pay subscriptions in exchange for the barest crumb of convenience.
I still don't like the way apps try to hide the filesystem in android but at least I can use a file browser to access the file system directly.
Thank you for confirming my thoughts about Apple.
Unfortunately the incentive of current mobile OSs is to funnel everything towards rent-seeking.
The cloud was a mistake.
They probably got some new garbage software where because of modern terrible programming practices, the requirements are very high.
Thus they need to replace the "old" hardware.
Also Syncthing to automatically sync files between the phone and my home server. I download podcasts and audiobooks into a folder on the server and they're automatically on my phone ready to play.
Immich to connect to my self-hosted media. And ntfy to get notifications from my home stuff.
Tasker to automatically activate my wifi hotspot for the car's Android headunit when it sees the car's bluetooth.
I have another tasker job to take the 2-factor authentication numbers from SMS and forward them to ntfy, so I don't even have to look at the phone, I get a popup on my PC with the 2-factor code.
And the best of all, Firefox with uBlock Origin add-on and Revanced Apps. Because ads are cancer.
And I still have a headphone socket.
Can all that be done on iOS?
I couldn't find it on a short inspection.
I love it how they say to update, but there's no point because it won't fix the vulnerability anyway.
Don't they bring their own setup?
If it has some subtle data corruption bug then you're hosed.
It's just crazy to me to think about running AI changes in production on a real product.
I think they've finally made it so shit that people actually care and will look for alternatives.
Maybe it won't happen today, maybe not in the next 5 years, but it will happen.
Ukraine and Iran, no. I'm not familiar with the others.
Can't have that! We wouldn't have any data to sell!
We need ID, email verification address, phone number, and a selfie of yourself holding a handwritten sign saying, "I love <useless company #7983>" now.
And you have to do a captcha at every step. Click on every crosswalk, sucker.
