bradley_taunt··on Bye, Bye GitHub
Codefloe looks like it could be promising. No real restrictions like other options. Time will tell.

bradley_taunt··on Why developers are ditching GitHub for Codeberg and self-hosting alternatives
I use it as my main forge and could not be happier. It also seems to be the only forge that allows its web frontend to work with JS disabled. (That I am aware of)
bradley_taunt··on OpenWrt One – Open Hardware Router
I started down my “custom” home network journey with OpenWrt and some aftermarket hardware routers. Enjoyed my time using / playing with it.

After some time though, I eventually moved over to using OpenBSD directly. My small brain has a much better understanding of all the moving parts compared to that of OpenWrt :P

bradley_taunt··on Show HN: Faceoff – A terminal UI for following NHL games
Booooo!

(From a Senators fan…)

bradley_taunt··on Show HN: boringBar – a taskbar-style dock replacement for macOS
Looks excellent but I can’t wrap my head around how this is a subscription. Pricing the app even at a higher range ($40-50), one—time payment makes way more sense.

You could even require paying for “upgrades” for major updates in the future. (Similar to that of Sketch or some apps made by Panic)

bradley_taunt··on Gnome dev gives fans of Linux's middle-click paste the middle finger
Just avoid GNOME altogether. Complete mess in general.
bradley_taunt··on A small collection of text-only websites
I think this site/list is more fitting: https://textonly.website/
bradley_taunt··on Trifold is a tool to quickly and cheaply host static websites using a CDN
This is pretty neat, but setups like this always make me wonder how the “static web” has become so complex?

I feel that tossing your static files up on a host like NearlyFreeSpeech (or any other cheap/decent host) is the easiest.

This would also only cost you ~$0.03 a day. Don’t reinvent the wheel, you know?

bradley_taunt··on Gnome is better macOS than macOS
Off topic from the article, but please stop setting video elements to “auto play”. It makes browsing on mobile a miserable experience.
bradley_taunt··on Grug Design
> grug try to avoid pain

Website doesn't scroll unless you are directly inside the main div.

Also that HTML is an abomination for such a minimal site...

bradley_taunt··on What, if anything, should I do about using Mozilla's Firefox
The Orion browser has been great for me on MacOS and iOS. It won’t help you with your Android requirement, but every other point is covered! (Allows for Firefox / Chrome extensions too)

Streamlined “tutorial” for those looking to easily get up and running with Caddy:

bradley_taunt··on Free Web Hosting Area
Came here to mention NFS as well. Great service, been using them for years.
bradley_taunt··on Nova by Panic: Native Mac code editor
Not sure if that would solve the underlying issues. CPU usage spikes to >190% when in use. Maybe this is a bug with Sequoia?
bradley_taunt··on Nova by Panic: Native Mac code editor
I really wanted to like this editor, but it chugs while working with 10,000+ file projects. It also seems to index all the files each time the project is relaunched.

Sublime runs flawlessly working with this same codebase...

bradley_taunt··on Infiltration: Toronto Union Station (1999)
From the homepage[1]:

> Ninjalicious, the founder of this website and Infiltration zine passed away in 2005. The website is maintained both in his memory and in the spirit of exploration.

bradley_taunt··on Ladybird Web Browser becomes a non-profit with $1M from GitHub Founder
Love the project, but that website is pretty cold and soulless (as mentioned by others).

I quickly put together a "cleaner" design for anyone interested, which also uses the original (and objectively better) logo:

bradley_taunt··on Ask HN: What's the simplest static website generator?
Thanks! The only "issue" with pblog for what OP is requesting are the dependency requirements (ie. pandoc)

Live demo for those wondering: https://pblog.btxx.org

bradley_taunt··on Ask HN: What's the simplest static website generator?
I made a very barebones one called barf. It's ~100 lines of code.

bradley_taunt··on Republicans in Congress try to kill FCC's broadband discrimination rules
> reading to educate yourself on the topic

Do you have sources that detail the different "tiers" of racism? Is that even a real thing based on anything besides subjective opinion?

Don't all forms of racism fall under the core definition:

"Discrimination or prejudice based on race."

Shouldn't the end-game be to simply eradicate all forms of it? Instead of splitting hairs and starting infighting among those with that same goal?

bradley_taunt··on Republicans in Congress try to kill FCC's broadband discrimination rules
Isn’t racism just racism? Racism is garbage regardless of “history” attached to it. No place for any of it.

Maybe my view is over simplistic, but it seems the most obvious.

bradley_taunt··on Pandoc
Huge fan of Pandoc. I don't use it for my personal website anymore, but I created a very crude "site generator" that piggybacks off Pandoc called pblog[0].

bradley_taunt··on RubyWM – an X11 window manager in pure Ruby
Always happy to see new options in the WM space!

My only gripe (and this goes for almost any open source project) is this: please include screenshots! Any program/service that has front-facing UI should have visual references, instead of making users build/run everything just to “see” it.

bradley_taunt··on My daily driver is older than I thought; it's positively vintage
If you end up using an X220 you will regret it. You’ll never be able to use a different laptop again. Absolute masterpiece for its time.
bradley_taunt··on Repurposing Hugo as a wiki
Just curious - why do you want to move away from ikiwiki? Wondering if there are issues or major flaws?
bradley_taunt··on Tell HN: Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas to a wonderful community!
bradley_taunt··on The X220 ThinkPad
You are correct - that was an autocorrect mistake? I will update the post shortly.

But yes, I do find those little extra keys useful. Print Screen is great since I have it linked with scrot via dwm.

bradley_taunt··on The X220 ThinkPad
This is fantastic and actually written more clearly than my own!

As for your point:

> You can’t watch videos on it

I don’t seem to have the same issue? Most videos on the internet stream/load fine without much struggle on my X220. Does your laptop heat up / spin up the fan?
