braderhart··on Microsoft is putting Windows on the back burner
Not from iTerm2 but I really enjoy the speed and features of urxvt. Any chance Windows will implement a similar fast open source console?
braderhart··on Void Linux: Into the Void
I love Void, but I personally find that Arch is much better supported overall in terms of packages and the AUR. I haven't tried Void recently though so maybe I should give it another go and help contribute.
braderhart··on Justice Dept. Revives Push to Mandate a Way to Unlock Phones
How do you have secure encryption with proprietary backdoors? Maybe this will wake people up to only using open source operating systems.
braderhart··on Protecting Security Researchers
The best way to get a company to do anything is through public disclosure, however it is reasonable to reach out to them first, anonymously (so that they don't sue you or kill you), and hope that they are descent people too.
braderhart··on Dejavu – Web UI for Elasticsearch
I thought for sure that you were going to be a PDF alternative, but then I remembered the spelling is different.
braderhart··on Launch HN: Promise (YC W18) – Cost-effective, more humane alternative to jail
How are you going to address the concern of people that will see this as a way for the government to exploit labor, and put activists and people that disagree with them into a forced-labor program? Wouldn't you essentially be offering an incentive for exploitation?
braderhart··on FTC Probing Facebook for Use of Personal Data, Source Says
I would like them to review my numerous fake profile reports to Facebook, which they ignored... it was probably in the 100s during this last election. They failed to act and I am pretty sure that they promote, allow and encourage the use of bots and fake accounts on their social network as it helps inflate their user count.
braderhart··on Announcing Microsoft DirectX Raytracing
Is this open source?
braderhart··on ‘I made Bannon’s psychological warfare tool’ meet the data war whistleblower
Yes... and maybe discussions shouldn't be immediately disrupted and censored as soon as someone accuses another as being anti-semite.
braderhart··on ‘I made Bannon’s psychological warfare tool’ meet the data war whistleblower
Running from what exactly? He doesn't say anything here, except that people like you push propaganda and that the majority of Americans are in debt.
braderhart··on ‘I made Bannon’s psychological warfare tool’ meet the data war whistleblower
Code from what dictionary? I am pretty sure you are the racist antisemite.
braderhart··on ‘I made Bannon’s psychological warfare tool’ meet the data war whistleblower
Why did he get flagged? He didn't say anything worth being flagged over. He said that people in the US are in debt, and then this person assumed that he meant to Jewish people and called him anti-semetic, and then his comment was immediately censored.
braderhart··on ‘I made Bannon’s psychological warfare tool’ meet the data war whistleblower
Where does he say anything against Jewish people? Claiming his comment is anti-semetic is anti-semtic.
braderhart··on Trump's Campaign Payments Totalling $130K
This makes him vulnerable to blackmail and other things. It is a huge national security risks and in fact I am pretty sure why the USA was formed in the first place, was in the best interests and security of the citizens.
braderhart··on Trump's Campaign Payments Totalling $130K
Can't wait to see the trial that never happens and the protests that never go anywhere.
braderhart··on [dead]
This immediate got pulled from the front page, wondering if they are trying to censor it. When is the trial?
braderhart··on Airbus moves 130k employees from Microsoft Office to GSuite
Did you know that GitHub doesn't equal the definer of open source, in fact in many ways they are the opposite, and that GitLab and many other projects operate outside the confinements of a commercial solution?
braderhart··on Airbus moves 130k employees from Microsoft Office to GSuite
Have you ever heard of LibreOffice Calc, which from my experience greatly outperforms Excel?
braderhart··on Airbus moves 130k employees from Microsoft Office to GSuite
Yet they can't even support WebRTC for audio/video in Linux? They are still 5 to 10 years behind everyone else and are a dying company.
braderhart··on Airbus moves 130k employees from Microsoft Office to GSuite
You can't beat Gmail labels and filters.

Outlook likes to duplicate things. They don't even have smart folder support in their web UI.

braderhart··on Airbus moves 130k employees from Microsoft Office to GSuite
Let me know when they open source their spyware OS and then we'll talk. Until then you are just continuing to campaign for exploiting educational tools by locking them down so that students can't understand why they are getting forced upgrades, always getting viruses, and having their shopping and browsing information sent to Microsoft Moscow or Mossad.
braderhart··on Airbus moves 130k employees from Microsoft Office to GSuite
Do you have any performance benchmarking to show the difference between Excel and LibreOffice Calc, because my experience LibreOffice is much better on resources. I would like to see what tests you are using so that I can run them myself.
braderhart··on Airbus moves 130k employees from Microsoft Office to GSuite
You're actually not far off. They are the biggest threats. Have you ever noticed that all of Microsoft releases gets leaked by Russian groups like WZor? Russia has long been releasing betas and alphas of Windows before anyone else, and no one has questioned how or why?
braderhart··on Airbus moves 130k employees from Microsoft Office to GSuite
What features are lacking specifically that LibreOffice, Google Sheets, or some other cross-platform solution doesn't have?
braderhart··on Airbus moves 130k employees from Microsoft Office to GSuite
That is simply not true. Google has been a much stronger supporter of open source. Ever heard of Android? What about Kubernetes? Chromium?

Also, Google Docs supports exporting to ODS and other document formats... in addition to automatic conversion into Google Drive.

braderhart··on Atom 1.25
Do you have a benchmark test to verify your claim?
braderhart··on Atom 1.25
Too many people in here running PR for Microsoft. VS Code is just as terrible, if not worse, than Atom.. and built using the same bloated framework.
braderhart··on How Apple let Siri fall behind the Google Assistant and Alexa
Welcome to Hacker News, where next-generation bots wish to be like their elitist closed-source masters.

Little silly how? They literally provide no information about their changes. How many phones do you think they were forced onto? I guarantee you a majority of their subscribers are soon to join their OS providers native file sharing service, and for good reason. Google Drive provides an entire online application stack for third-party developers and a simple API. Google Photos is great as well, as it has the best object and face recognition software.

OneDrive actually does the same pretty well too, and integrates with their native Office Suite. There is really not a good reason to select Dropbox at this point, unless you are just working PR for them.

braderhart··on Dropbox Amendment to Form S-1
Just said.. it always eats resources, no changelogs, and customer service doesn't respond (even when I was a paying customer).
