boutad··on Google offers certificate to help IT career growth
According to this(https://grow.google/programs/it-support/), BofA, PNC, Intel, Hulu, Wallmart, and others care about it.
boutad··on Trying out the Pinebook Pro – a $200 ARM Laptop
Depends what you mean when you say like this. You can find some x86 Chromebooks for that price but they wouldn't be as open.
boutad··on Trying out the Pinebook Pro – a $200 ARM Laptop
Yes, that is listed on the product page.

boutad··on A Sad Day for Rust
Wouldn't it be better if there was one repo that had all of the fixes?
boutad··on The 100 Year Starship
> It has been argued that an interstellar mission that cannot be completed within 50 years should not be started at all. Instead, assuming that a civilization is still on an increasing curve of propulsion system velocity and not yet having reached the limit, the resources should be invested in designing a better propulsion system. This is because a slow spacecraft would probably be passed by another mission sent later with more advanced propulsion (the incessant obsolescence postulate).

boutad··on EU considers temporary ban on facial recognition in public spaces
Good thing the UK are able to pass their own laws.
boutad··on Microsoft’s quest to go ‘carbon negative’ inspires $1B fund
I think carbon to value is the best way. If valuable uses for carbon are found companies will work on carbon capture themselves without political purpose.
boutad··on A Sad Day for Rust
Then you might end up with a bunch of different forks each with different fixes applied.
boutad··on How The New York Times Verified the Iran Missile-Strike Footage
Why did BBC put quotes around the word arrested in the title?
boutad··on FBI unlocked iPhone 11 Pro via GrayKey, raising more doubts about Pensacola case
Once again, it seems that it was an excuse to weaken the security of all iPhone users rather than getting information from a specific device. In the case of San Bernandino the FBI was able to use Cellebrite to crack the attacker iPhone without Apple creating backdoors.
boutad··on Vulkan 1.2
Does Vulkan have an answer to DirectX Raytracing?

boutad··on To solve problems caused by sitting, learn to squat (2017)
> there are studies to suggest that populations that spend excessive time in a deep squat (hours per day), do have a higher incidence of knee and osteoarthritis issues.
boutad··on To solve problems caused by sitting, learn to squat (2017)
The article said:

> “Every joint in our body has synovial fluid in it. This is the oil in our body that provides nutrition to the cartilage,” Jam says. “Two things are required to produce that fluid: movement and compression. So if a joint doesn’t go through its full range—if the hips and knees never go past 90 degrees—the body says ‘I’m not being used’ and starts to degenerate and stops the production of synovial fluid.”

boutad··on Show HN: Murex – non-Posix shell designed for productivity
Cisco did sue Apple over the trademark for iPhone[1]. When Apple later used the name iOS they came to a private agreement with Cisco[2]. If they just used the same name without coming to terms with Cisco, they surely would have been sued again.

boutad··on Letting slower passengers board airplane first is faster, study finds
Why is it better to board first? From my perspective, minimizing time spent in cramped air planes seats the better.
boutad··on JetBrains Mono: A free and open-source typeface for developers
That seems like it would be difficult to type.
boutad··on JetBrains Mono: A free and open-source typeface for developers
Yes, many fonts use double story 'a' for roman and single story 'ɑ' for italic. Calibri, Segoe UI, Times New Roman, Droid Serif, Merriweather, Consolas, and Source Sans Pro are examples I found from quick searching.
boutad··on Apple’s “monopsony” power, and the woman who named it
I think Valve takes a 30% cut on Steam and Steam predates the iOS App Store.
boutad··on Mailchimp has terminated Stefan Molyneux’s account
Considering he is an anarchist, I don't think he is trying to encroach on the rights of anyone.
boutad··on Writing Software to Last 50 Years
According to the man page for bsdtar that ships with Ubuntu

A tar command appeared in Seventh Edition Unix, which was released in January, 1979. There have been numerous other implementations, many of which extended the file format. John Gilmore's pdtar public-domain implementation (circa November, 1987) was quite influential, and formed the basis of GNU tar. GNU tar was included as the standard system tar in FreeBSD beginning with FreeBSD 1.0. This is a complete re-implementation based on the libarchive(3) library. It was first released with FreeBSD 5.4 in May, 2005.

boutad··on Mailchimp has terminated Stefan Molyneux’s account
> reputation of others

This sounds like slander or libel. It also seems that is what is being done to Molyneux, not by him.

> protection of national security or of public order (order public)

This sounds like making threats. Is Molyneux making threats against people or calling for actual violence?

> of public health or morals

Blasphemy or obscenity laws? I thought that we were past these things in the west.

> The real world is messy and rights can't be absolute because each could encroach on others.

Is Molyneux infringing on the rights of other or are others trying to infringe the rights of Molyneux?

boutad··on Mailchimp has terminated Stefan Molyneux’s account
Can you point me to where he is trying to step on the free speech of others? That seems like what you are doing. By saying his ideas are hate, you are trying to stop him from saying them.
boutad··on Mailchimp has terminated Stefan Molyneux’s account
> Freedom of speech is a principle that supports the freedom of an individual or a community to articulate their opinions and ideas without fear of retaliation, censorship, or legal sanction.

boutad··on Mailchimp has terminated Stefan Molyneux’s account
Just because Mailchimp can, doesn't mean they should.
boutad··on Mailchimp has terminated Stefan Molyneux’s account
Free speech is a principle. The first amendment states that the US government shall not violate this principle. The principle and the amendment are separate things.
boutad··on The Y2K bug is back, causing headaches for developers again

boutad··on Writing Software to Last 50 Years
I imagine most modern users of tar are using GNU Tar or libarchive bsdtar. Are there any current tar implementations that can be directly traced to the original?
boutad··on Better technology means higher expectations, which creates more work
Imagine your wages stayed the same or grew but everything else kept decreasing in prices. This was the norm in the United States before the founding of the Federal Reserve.
