boopboopbadoop··on GM makes $1,500 subscription mandatory on GMC, Buick, Cadillac Models
There also seems to be some social expectation that when you have a family, you need a bigger car, despite modestly-sized cars being perfectly sufficient.
boopboopbadoop··on A coding error caused Rogers outage that left millions without service
For the Phoenix government payroll system, they paid IBM like it was the 2090s and it’s still broken.
boopboopbadoop··on Mendon, Missouri
By mass maybe?
boopboopbadoop··on Ask HN: Why is there a YC job posting on the front page with comments disabled?
Interesting. I’ve used HN for a long time but never noticed it before, and was very surprised when I saw it. Almost feels like it should be marked with “promotional”.
boopboopbadoop··on The status of the book in the age of digital media
I had to scroll up and down a bit but it eventually went away.
boopboopbadoop··on The status of the book in the age of digital media
Yes, and they make sure the face rather than the spine of the book de jour is pointed at the camera so you’re sure to see how smart the person is.
boopboopbadoop··on St. John's woman loses home after Phoenix pay fiasco
I’d imagine it’s harder to come by jobs out there, and she had a reasonable belief that the gov would eventually pay her.
boopboopbadoop··on Ask HN: Has your total compensation drastically changed with the stock downturn?
But then you’d owe tax on the 50k profit you made. Besides, nothing is ever guaranteed!
boopboopbadoop··on Ask HN: Has your total compensation drastically changed with the stock downturn?
That’s like saying you’d take 50k and pay 10k in tax, rather than have 100k and pay 20k in tax.
boopboopbadoop··on Swag in the Tech Industry
I bet your manager and/or peers looked at you like you were a blasphemer. I don’t know how it became normal to want to advertise for an employer. Good for you, I would have done the same.
boopboopbadoop··on One Job, One Pay – Globally
So bucket 2 then?
boopboopbadoop··on Former Facebook, WhatsApp employees lead new push to fix social media
Is a DAO similar to the Reddit model, I.e. subreddits have rules and mods that enforce them?
boopboopbadoop··on Ask HN: How do you keep track of software requirements and test them?
Writing stories/tasks in such a way that each acceptance criteria is something that is testable, then having a matching acceptance test for each criteria. Using something like Cucumber helps match the test to the criteria since you can describe steps in a readable format.
boopboopbadoop··on Jack Dorsey’s $2.9M NFT dropped 99% in value
Ya, on one hand I understand people trying to monetize their work, and trying to be on the forefront of how that’s done. On the other, it feels a bit dishonest if the seller doesn’t believe in the tech enough that they too would buy in. Kind of reminds me of MLMs.
boopboopbadoop··on Jack Dorsey’s $2.9M NFT dropped 99% in value
In regards to the music royalties example, what’s the benefit of using NFTs over whatever systems already exist?
boopboopbadoop··on Ask HN: When did tech stop being cool?
For me it started with having to write unit tests and acceptance tests and integration tests for the stuff I make.
boopboopbadoop··on Sam Altman’s Worldcoin promised them free crypto for an eyeball scan
They’re “devolving” because that’s exactly what the article says WorldCoin is doing:

> But the company still has not committed to a timeline, even though it has captured and stored almost a half million iris scans to train its algorithms.

boopboopbadoop··on Ask HN: Is your company considering inflation in this year's comp review cycle?
What time horizon on the RSUs?
boopboopbadoop··on Ask HN: Disillusioned with the direction of society and technology
My point is not everyone can turn it off like that. To assume that everyone can because you did is wrong.
boopboopbadoop··on Ask HN: Disillusioned with the direction of society and technology
> it's literally as simple as closing the tab

It’s literally as simple as not putting a cigarette in your mouth and smoking it.

> I never found it so addicting that I couldn't go without it for awhile

Crazy thought but what if we had a sample size bigger than you.

boopboopbadoop··on When the Stagnation Goes Virtual
Let me rephrase the question then: what financial incentive would a gaming company have to remove power creep, when they make money off of selling new, more powerful items?

Sounds like you’re depending on some form of loyalty from the gaming company, which I think is naive.

boopboopbadoop··on When the Stagnation Goes Virtual
> Not saying that's for sure going to happen

It’s not going to happen. What financial incentive does a gaming company have to keep the item they sold you effective? They made money selling the item, and will not receive further money from it. They will have already moved on to selling the next, more effective item.

boopboopbadoop··on The 512KB Club
Just wanted to post and say I enjoyed reading through your website. Very succinct.
boopboopbadoop··on Tell HN: We have a responsibility to speak out against blockchain technologies
> Your "we" in the second example is the majority of network users - any network where that isn't true is not decentralized.

So... you’re saying it’s mutable.

boopboopbadoop··on Five Levels of Hype
Software bug? I think you’re dodging the point a bit - going into a wall at any speed is bad.

Alternatively, say it has trouble orienting itself and slows down. That can be just as dangerous if cars behind you are going fast (e.g. a highway).

boopboopbadoop··on Five Levels of Hype
I’m criticizing the “self-driving” term, which seems to be having more and more asterisks applied to it. What’s next, the cars will need tracks?
boopboopbadoop··on Five Levels of Hype
Maybe I’m drawing conclusions about what these beacons would do, but if any of the things you mentioned stop working, I can still drive and won’t go full speed into a wall. I don’t have the same confidence in these beacons.
boopboopbadoop··on Web3 and crypto skepticism is growing and people are finally starting to listen
Their solution is to change browser functionality? Good luck.
boopboopbadoop··on Five Levels of Hype
> Narrow streets can be equipped with some kind of helping beacons one day

That changes the goal posts in my opinion. The “self” part of “self-driving” no longer applies.

boopboopbadoop··on Our Take on NFTs
If the jpeg is irrelevant, shouldn’t all NFTs from the same contract cost the same? If it’s just a club membership, why would people buy multiple NFTs from the same contract?
