boogdan··on The State of UX for 2018

boogdan··on Ask HN: What can those of us outside the US do about Net Neutrality today?
I don't think there's anything that we can do besides spreading the word and taking it as a lesson for when this happens in EU.
boogdan··on Desktop Kit
"This document was created with a newer version of Sketch. Please upgrade to the latest version and try again."

I bloody hate this idiotic approach of licensing. I have Sketch 43 and because my license expired, I cannot upgrade to 44 and there is no backward compatibility between versions. Basically Sketch is forcing me to pump up yet another lump of money.

boogdan··on Show HN: Artpip – 4k fine art for your desktop
My bad, I thought that it means to display my favourite artwork.
boogdan··on Show HN: Artpip – 4k fine art for your desktop
By the way, the "add to favs" button should also be located directly into the menu bar dropdown. Right now if I want to mark a wallpaper as a favourite, I have to:

1. Click on the menu bar icon 2. Click on the "Show artpip" 3. Wait for the app to load 4. Click on the fav button.

Too many steps...

I have just installed it and I really love it! I think it's the first app that convinced me in less than 5 minutes to pay for the premium package. Keep up the good work.
boogdan··on PayPal? No way
Did anyone used or is using TransferWise? Is it any better than Paypal when it comes to send/receive amounts in different currencies?

boogdan··on Free password manager for Mac from Avast (beta)
Saving my passwords in the cloud? More than that, on a server managed by someone else? No thank you.
boogdan··on Ask HN: How to teach a friend about programming?
Will check into that, thanks!
boogdan··on Launch of CelloHost.com
Oh my god the website looks awful. I usually don't say bad things about other people's work but in this case I can't ignore it. I mean if this is for real then the "team" behind it probably are in the same boat as their target: average unskilled blogger. My opinion is to shut it down and make it look decent if you really want to make a profit with it.
boogdan··on Ask HN: How can I help others?
That was my first intention but I want to do something were I'm involved more rather than just a name written somewhere.
boogdan··on Ask HN: How can I help others?
I have a basic knowledge of iOS development using Swift so let me know.
boogdan··on Why you shouldn't use disposable email addresses to register domains
Oh wow: "there are 65,117 domains that matched this search query." (for domains@microsoft.com)
boogdan··on Ask HN: What TLD would you choose?
Thanks, I'll take a look.
boogdan··on Ask HN: What TLD would you choose?
We're working on our product so it's not like we're waiting to decide upon the domain but I'm also very careful about the stigma that we Romanians (or Eastern Europeans) have.

However, you are right about failing because of the TLD.

boogdan··on Ask HN: What TLD would you choose?
Unfortunately you are right and that was the main factor for buying the .io domain.

Thanks for your feedback. :)

boogdan··on Ask HN: Do you use an antivirus?
Mac user here: I'm using nod32 as AV and Backblaze for automatic backups. I'm also using an object storage on rackspace for storing random stuff and last but not least, I'm not going head first on any shady website or things like that.

Oh and also I'm not letting anyone on my computer unattended by me.

It doesn't matter if you have the best security solution because in the end, the human factor is the most vulnerable part of any computer.

boogdan··on Ask HN: What recreational books related to programming can you recommend?
Also found this, for those who are interested: "The Inmates Are Running the Asylum", by Alan Cooper: http://www.amazon.com/The-Inmates-Are-Running-Asylum/dp/0672...
boogdan··on Ask HN: What recreational books related to programming can you recommend?
Thanks, the first one looks extremely interesting.
boogdan··on Show HN: Bubblin – Next-generation books
I love it, however I have some suggestions:

1. Please, please use the metric system units or at least add both the imperial and the metric when you explain something. For example the Earth's rotation is in mph...you can at least say: 1000mph (1,674.4km/h).

2. On the Sun's chapter, you drew it yellow. Well, this is a common misconception, however the Sun is essentially all colors mixed together, which appear to our eyes as white.

3. There are too many links that forces the reader to constantly deviate from what he reads, thus killing the experience. You can come up with something similar to Apple's "look up" functionality [1]

4. No love for Pluto :(

boogdan··on Ask HN: How to safely outsource a web dev project
Thanks for the suggestions, joining their internal dev meetings is a great idea. I'm also planning on asking about post-implementation support and what happens if a serious bug is discovered after UAT.

What about the NDA? I was thinking on creating some sort of individual NDA rather than company-to-company NDA because from a legal point of view, it's not clear for me what happens if one of their developers quits and joins one of our competitors.
