booblik··on Why Is Apple’s M1 Chip So Fast?
The secure enclave is not used for bulk encryption and decryption, it is capable of encrypting its own secrets, but does not actually affect the speed of any benchmarks. The CPU is used for bulk encryption and ARMv8 ISA has special AES instructions, same as Intel. As for video encoder/decoder, Intel had QuickSync for 10 years now. Nothing that is unique for Apple.
booblik··on macOS Big Sur
Good news for you then: the new Safari on Big Sur lets you play 4K HDR videos on youtube.
booblik··on Turns out half the internet has a single-point-of-failure called “Cloudflare”
Seems like if this issue could easily be solved, a startup would have formed to solve it. Are there any alternatives to recaptcha and hcaptcha that are effective and also accessible?
booblik··on Citing revenue declines, Airbnb cuts 25% of workforce
That is a tradeoff. Also most lower paid workers in the US don’t have the luxury to save money at all.
booblik··on Citing revenue declines, Airbnb cuts 25% of workforce
The US workers, at least in IT make much more money than their European counterparts, while paying less taxes. A wise person could in theory save 20% or more every month to create own safety net, while still enjoying a high standard of living. Alas this is not the American way of life, where it is not uncommon to spend even over 100K per year on a lavish lifestyle and living in debt.
booblik··on DR Congo measles: More than 6k dead in world's worst outbreak
I am sorry, what is the point of your comment? Are you saying people are not allowed to love their pets and should let them die, and not care for them when they are sick?
booblik··on A look inside TSMC
This is not true, Intel regularly upgrades existing fabs to new processes. For example they upgraded 4 fabs to 22nm back in 2010. This list shows how old some fabs are: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_manufacturing_...

It is clearly stated that he survived the gunshots
booblik··on Apple blocks out daylight to poverty-hit families in London apartment block
Then some other ad would. It is just a clickbait to blame a large corporation for everything bad on the planet. The landlord is an asshole, Apple is not to blame here. I would say the same if it was any other ad.
booblik··on Apple blocks out daylight to poverty-hit families in London apartment block
I think the landlord has absolutely no right to block the windows, I see it as a human rights violation. Unless the tenants signed the lease when an ad was already hanging there.
booblik··on Apple blocks out daylight to poverty-hit families in London apartment block
I doubt Apple has anything to do with it. More likely they used an agency that chose the location, and even that agency was probably unaware of who or how would be affected by the ad.
booblik··on Boeing Engineers Lost Control of the Company
While it is nice to think that this is all a beancounter fault, and to an extent it is, there must be an engineer in Boeing who was tasked with this difficult and challenging mission how to avoid the expensive recertification of the airplane. They must have spent many sleepless nights thinking how to make that happen, until finally reaching a eurika! moment. And I want to believe that they thought the solution they proposed was both sound and economical, yet the execution was lacking. In the end there must be an engineer behind every feature, even if they were pressured by non engineering manager to compromise.
booblik··on I Just Took the World's First 20-Hour Flight
I believe it is EWR-SIN
booblik··on Turn off DoH, Firefox
Of course it is relevant. They claim US government has access to all the logs, this is simply not true.
booblik··on Turn off DoH, Firefox
But Cloudflare also happen to be the fastest DNS resolver.
booblik··on Turn off DoH, Firefox
My understanding is that the DNS query goes to the closest of the more than 180 Cloudflare servers, not specifically to the US servers. Complete FUD.
booblik··on H-1B: Federal judge backs government’s narrower view of ‘specialty occupation’
BTW I think that QA has zero justifications for an H1B visa.
booblik··on H-1B: Federal judge backs government’s narrower view of ‘specialty occupation’
I came to this country in part because I was offered a very good salary by my employer, that allows me a very comfy life in San Francisco.

They would be cheaper off with a local worker, that would be available for immediate hire, and wouldn’t need an expensive and quite long visa processing. Alas they found none, and not for lack of trying.

booblik··on H-1B: Federal judge backs government’s narrower view of ‘specialty occupation’
As someone on work visa myself it is very clear to me that I have the visa to do a specific job at a specific company. I know I may have to leave at anytime. I also know that there is a path to GC, but it is a bonus and not a certainty. Any intelligent person should understand that.

Now I am not from India or China, but it still takes years to get a GC.

And yes in those years I may like it here very much and start building a life.

But if I do, I accept the responsibility that one day it may all be taken away from me, and I will not be pretending to be a victim. So if you started your life here 5, 10, 15 years ago, you knew full well what you were doing, you were a grown adult with at least a bachelors degree. So just stop being a victim.

Is the system broken? Yes. Do we as immigrants understand that? Yes. Can we do anything about it? No, this is America, and Americans will or will not fix it.

Does this law apply to Attlasian as well? Their stock price is not concerned.
booblik··on WeWork’s CEO Makes Millions as Landlord to WeWork
I don’t know why I am downvoted, I only stated a fact. At least USSR were honest about it.
booblik··on WeWork’s CEO Makes Millions as Landlord to WeWork
The USSR never had communism. The official party line always was that it is a socialist state, on the way to communism. And once they reach full communism things will be really good.
