Next peer-reviewed journal debunks that measure of man his bank account.
bohadi··on 'Asymptotic burnout' of planet-scale civilizations may explain Fermi Paradox
The burnout-collapse trajectory is another kind of homeostasis, only one with very wide range of variation. Though that produces huge human suffering and lossy cultural transmission so it might be worth avoiding.

But homeostatic awakening is continually underway, from 20th century discourse of technique and enframing to our modern drives for global sustainability. Would it not be wise to err on the side of caution, reaching for the stars at some slowest effective rate (Elons per millenium;) until we know more?

Another concern is civilization may execute both futures parallelly via splitting: where some 'elite' Gosper glider-like sets off from home planet, and the Gosper glider gun remains to reset the cycle. If collapse assumed this is your K shaped recovery.

The Fermi paradox does not overly worry me for some reason. Everything Is just so improbable really.

bohadi··on Apple asks suppliers to shift AirPods, Beats production to India
Economic interdependence is studied in the theory of International Relations.

As other commenters have pointed out, interdependence is variously seen as preventing or leading to conflict. The former in the Liberalist school, when two countries both see war as too costly to their mutual interests. The latter in the Realist school, when interdependence is weaponized as a point of control or viewed as vulnerability.

The trade expectations model (Copeland) argues that high existing interdependence but declining expectations leads to conflict, while a statusquo that is relatively independent but with increasing expectations can be peace-inducing. I admit the expectations model is somewhat circular reasoning, cyclical really. Though it is statistically explanative of historical conflicts in the 19th and 20th century.

For sure without regulatory clarity very simple and magical rules based tests apply pretty much universally. I hear the SEC is short staffed.
bohadi··on Tether is under undisclosed SEC investigation, FOIA blocked
You're absolutely right. Gensler has cited the Howey test inconsistently. Well, under that definition, stablecoins are not securities. There's no expectation of profits.

I expect future battlelines being drawn around decentralized stablecoins. Tether is private and carries SPOF risk.

bohadi··on If Materialism Is True, the United States Is Probably Conscious (2015)
Jung made the more conservative claim that (US) entity is unconscious. [1] Like a baby in the womb.

If you subscribe to emergentist theory of mind or integrated information theory of consciousness [3][4], compared to what comes, still a dissolute level of being.

There is an argument of telos here. [4] I like to think of it as a cosmic historical process. Is it circular or linear? Maybe the geometric metaphors are lacking.

Yeah. Sounds a lot like the dig-up-all-the-carbon-burn-then-bury-it-again civilizational project going on the past 100, and next 100 years.

What exactly was the purpose to "re-arranging small bits of matter near the surface of the earth" again? [1]

Basically I wanted to make a comment about greedy exploitation-exploration trade-off strategies here but will stop short at this kind of eliptical passing remark.

Yeah but in fact the eye does the same thing. I think a lot of people are to some degree aware of their photo biases, from color filters to ai filters, and will modify their response or not internally.
bohadi··on Some ancient narratives contain remarkably reliable records of real events
Tangentially related and may be of interest, I was recently reading about the Ramayana (or Ramakien), and reference to "Vimana"[1] ancient flying ship-palaces.

Compare contrast Lucian of Samosata's "True History", sometimes considered the prototypical sci-fi story, describes a lunar voyage borne on wind and water (I am reminded of a taller ladder to the moon),

"a waterspout suddenly came upon us, which swept the ship round and up to a height of some three hundred and fifty miles above the earth. She did not fall back into the sea, but was suspended aloft, and at the same time carried along by a wind which struck and filled the sails...it was an island with air for sea, glistening, spherical, and bathed in light"[2]
