bogardon··on Suits Are Better Tech Than Modern Clothes
This friend group, of which I was not a part of, would “suit up” for a night out. Fun little tradition it seemed to me.
bogardon··on Code Is CRAP [2011]
2026 Google would never have some "fun" like this
bogardon··on Waymo Safety Impact
I'd love to cycle more outdoors, but I'm always wary of the risks. How cool would it be if you could hire a waymo as a "team car" and have it follow you around? It could also carry extra equipment...and act as a ride home in case of emergencies.
bogardon··on The Brand Age
Is it just me or are an increasing number of (high profile) people in the tech industry into luxury watches these days?
bogardon··on Captive Wi-Fi
They probably know what it is but are just not familiar with the term.

I find the OS' captive portal detection to sometimes be flaky, so I often just directly visit www.neverssl.com to reliably trigger the captive portal redirect.

bogardon··on How Slide Rules Work
For people into watches, check out this video (and the whole series of watch and learn) on slide rules on watches: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RuK_77DEUfw
bogardon··on Hand Tracking for Mouse Input
could this be the next evolution of gaming mice?
bogardon··on Ask HN: How to optimize your career for happiness?
Well said. How do we know what happiness feels like unless we have experienced unhappiness? This doesn't answer OPs question, but it is still worth thinking about.
bogardon··on Facebook Watch Isn’t Living Up to Its Name
I would have forgiven most things like lower viewership if the stream itself was at least reliable. That said, Google/Facebook's requirement that you use some "real name" just goes against what gamers prefer: anonymity.
bogardon··on Teach Yourself Computer Science
Just like OS concepts like sockets/files/pipes and how clang/ld/dyld actually works.
bogardon··on Teach Yourself Computer Science
My personal experience is that I got bored with frontend and pushing pixels, and when I tried to switch into infra work I found my incomplete picture of CS made it hard for me to grasp concepts other seem to take for granted. Maybe you don't have to have a CS degree, but even having a survey knowledge of major CS topics will at least give you more confidence.
bogardon··on A French Scrabble champion who doesn't speak French
Reminds me of this book walking with einstein (?) where people memorize decks of cards in minutes.
bogardon··on What Killed Straight Pool? (2005)
Yeah I played a lot in Taiwan during middle/high school and we called it 14-1 too.
bogardon··on Taiwanese startup Gogoro reveals an electric scooter designed for commuters
very slick design:)
bogardon··on Twitch acquires eSports pro-gaming team Evil Geniuses
I watched a lot of SC2 during WOL and I recently went to IEM San Jose. I was reminded of why I stopped watching. Koreans are completely impersonal. You can't even force yourself to become partial to them on any level other than their in game skills. As a foreigner, all the Koreans might as well be clones of each other. The language barrier is simply too much and it makes for a really boring spectator environment.

what team
bogardon··on FiftyThree Files Trademark For “Paper”
Good luck, seriously. There's 0 reason for facebook to care.
bogardon··on I will not do a tech interview
the point of technical interviews is to see how you think about problems, getting it correct isn't even that important. i can understand why people really hate this stuff if they did not come from a cs background, but it is a knowledge gap that they should look to bridge eventually...
bogardon··on How a bug in ported garbage-collected code trashed our iOS app
What I really want to know is why NSURLCache does not go to disk when it should. And also if it's fixed in iOS 7...
