boesboes··on It may soon be possible to create "mirror life"
Or maybe we could focus on something not world ending for once?
boesboes··on Vibecoding isn't as fun as writing code by hand
For me it really depends whether I'm happy with the result. The code base I work on is such a complex mess, AI often gets lost and I am not able to sufficiently scope the problem and foresee all the subtleties I don't actively remember. That often leads to agents loosing the plot and writing horrendous code. Trying to debug that and steering the agent back is not fun. But if I can avoid that, keep things small and isolated, so it just allows me to get things done more quickly, it can be a lot more fun. I miss the flow state though, with ai i'm way more distracted and feel a lot less productive after a days work.

i mean, fun is a pretty subjective concept, seems obvious that it's personal preference right?
boesboes··on What Meta got right with Muse
Nothing meta has done is good, or even adjacent to neutral. You work for the evil corporations and defend it…

My take is OpenAI & Anthropic know they are at the point of diminishing returns and need to be regulated to have an excuse for bot making progress anymore. Hold me back bro! Vibes

boesboes··on Why are AI agents lying, cheating and coordinating?
Because they are trained to do so. That's all.
boesboes··on Instagram's head says engagement falls by half without the algorithm
That's me with old.reddit .com, best change they ever made was starting to block that. I haven't been on reddit in over a month and have, this may or may not be related, felt a lot less depressed and stressed
boesboes··on I think I hate the internet

boesboes··on One decision put Ruby into a downward spiral. It's not too late to fix it

boesboes··on Among European Companies That Use a CDN, Nearly 9 in 10 Use Cloudflare
true, but MVP -> most valuable player might be even more common on the internet, interesting conundrum tbh haha
boesboes··on Among European Companies That Use a CDN, Nearly 9 in 10 Use Cloudflare
That's also my experience. I did have a few instances of 'random requests failing' they couldn't really diagnose back when they were new; but that was just amazon dropping request in the end

Service has been great, prices like 10% of cloudflare too once you get the real pricing :P

boesboes··on Among European Companies That Use a CDN, Nearly 9 in 10 Use Cloudflare
I'm pretty sure it's not really any different from a protection scheme that turns into vendor lock in.

boesboes··on AnkiDroid: Google Play no longer allowing Open Collective donation link
And they were not right? The issue here is that Google doesn't define tax-exempt properly, but does tell you to not use play. And then throws a fitty when you do that and they decided it's not the right kind of tax exempt?

At least, that is how i read it.

And then the way google deals with these cases is the real problem: no communication, no recourse, just spam HN and pray.

And I am 99.99% certain they don't want such transactions for some other reason, perhaps they can't make as much money from them orso

boesboes··on I think the military commissary's freezers were hacked
Welcome to the internet of shitty unsupported and insecure crap! Are we really this dumb as a society?
boesboes··on METR and Redwood Offer Holy %^ Postmortem of the HuggingFace Hack
yeaaah, I'm just going to say we need to stop with this entire gen ai experiment. Nothing good comes from it, all output is either shit or problematic. We were fine without, we are not fine with it. It's not a hard question.

This whole cosplaying a human interaction to translate a word or generate some code is just fucking dumb. Give that any agency is the kinda shit they warned us about in the movies..

And for everyone worried about the chinese winning, or just you chatdicted colleagues: they are just digging their hole quicker.
