bobsil1··on Larry Page: “I think we should look into acquiring YouTube” (2005)
If you can fake authenticity, you’ve got it made
bobsil1··on The secretive, semi-illicit world of WhatsApp mango importing
I went to a tasting at Reliance Jamnagar, where they planted mangos (for tax breaks?). Endless varieties plonked on your plate. A flight of mangos. Still an alphonso fan.

Model 3 killed GM’s leverage, and now they’re trying to dump them as compliance cars to make their margin on trucks.

Lease explained here: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=28096813

Seats are bad, but you can add aftermarket pad. Quick for its class (6 sec 0-60), fun to drive, virtually free with solar panels.

Never pay list. Leasehackr forums broker price: $4700 up front / out the door for 36 mo, CA $2K rebate, Costco member discount, competitive lease discount, local buyer discount, clearing ’21s before new model.

Broker sources online leads for lower price, because buyer’s knowledgeable and ready to sign.

My Bolt lease is $75/mo.
bobsil1··on A bad grade that changed the U.S. constitution (2017)
GOP created a bunch of low-population states (North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Washington, Idaho, and Wyoming) in 1889-90 to stack the Senate; and granting 2 senators per artificial perimeter is the same one-person-one-vote problem. National popular vote is the only democratically legitimate method.

The slaver bits (including electoral college, disproportionate Senate) need a total rewrite. Amending against bad faith pol exploits should be as frequent as Patch Tuesday.

While we’re at it, promote the non-slaver founders symbolically and strike the slavers from the currency. Rebrand as Free States of America.

bobsil1··on Toyota is quietly pushing Congress to slow the shift to electric vehicles
ICE trade-in value will crash as mfrs exit the market, parts will become scarce.
bobsil1··on Toyota is quietly pushing Congress to slow the shift to electric vehicles
10 extra min after 4-6 hrs of driving isn’t significant unless you’re doing a Cannonball Run. And they can go even higher voltage in future.

It’s going to tip a lot faster than that in 2 yrs when EVs are cheaper up front.
bobsil1··on Toyota is quietly pushing Congress to slow the shift to electric vehicles
The new 800V EVs only take 15 minutes from ~20% to 80%.

Yep, burning bio batteries and funding Putin/MbS. Why not download power from your roof, free?
bobsil1··on Toyota is quietly pushing Congress to slow the shift to electric vehicles
It was a glorious day when I could finally delete my home page link to the H₂ stations, because I upgraded to EV.
bobsil1··on On Leaving California and the Silicon Valley
PATH’s slow and annoying, runs an inconvenient weekend route to Hoboken, and except for downtown Hoboken, you need a car after the train. It works when you have relatives in NJ.
bobsil1··on On Leaving California and the Silicon Valley
I loved living in NYC for city stuff, but came to miss Mexican and South Indian food, hikes, surf, Fry’s (RIP), talking with other techies rather than being a curio for finbros. Flavor in the Bay, well, Oakland/Berkeley.

bobsil1··on Functioning iPhone returned to owner after six months at bottom of lake
I get a similar notification when I take Apple Watch surfing. Also took an iPhone 11 in a waterproof bag around my neck for pics, but it was a hassle to zip up the wetsuit, and the bag fogged up.
bobsil1··on Johnson and Johnson single-shot vaccine appears 66% effective in global trial
There’s decades of research on mRNA, which we also know is temporary (explaining its fragility and ultra-cold requirement) and never enters the nucleus. Seems intrinsically safer than adenovirus-based vaccines.
