I'm so glad you wrote this book. The benefits seems small - 3 seconds here, 6 seconds there, etc. but compounded over decades, it makes a huge difference.

Does anyone have any insight on why someone would invest in MicroStrategy instead of just buying the bitcoin themselves? Is the volume discount delta > fees that the fund charges?

I work at one of the FAANGs and was promoted twice within two years. I've been plateauing since, and can definitely relate.

Regarding strategy to get out of the plateau, I think you really have to play to your strengths. Most high leveled people I've found to be lacking in certain areas, but almost all of them are exceptional in at least one area.

Try to think through what strengths you have and see if you can double down on them:

Are you really good at writing a lot of code and shipping things? Perhaps your archetype is a coding machine, and you should find ways to write even more code (without comprimising quality).

Are you really good at collaborating with all sorts of different personality types? Perhaps your archetype is a cross functional engineering leader that can lead complex cross team initiatives.

Find what you're good at. Double down on that and promotions will happen naturally.

Have you checked out GPT-3? Given all the mind blowing applications from code summarization, code generation, tabular data inference, etc, etc (https://twitter.com/search?q=gpt-3&src=typed_query), I think it's very possible for an AI to be a top karma HNer.

I try to find handicaps to help nudge me in the right direction. I used to have a bad habit of working for hours without a break, causing pretty severe eye pain. A few months ago, I installed an app called "time out" on mac that forces me to take a break after 20 minutes of working. It was hard at the beginning, but now I've pretty much completely eliminated the bad habit.

In terms of users, my hope is that one day, all web developers look to this site as the easiest way to embed videos on their sites.

Ideal use case - A web developer wants to incorporate a video on their site. He or she wants to have the freedom to customize the video experience, but doesn't want to worry about video hosting. Instead of using youtube or setting up their own video hosting platform, they go to this site to have their video embedded within their site in minutes!

I originally thought it would be a cool demonstration of the html5 video tag.

Unfortunately, it was implemented poorly. This will be the first thing I fix in the next iteration.

You're right. It will be fixed in the next iteration.

Both Youtube and Vimeo use Iframes to embed their content, which means you get their native interface by default and limited customization parameters. With this site, your video is embedded using an html5 video tag, which gives you much more control over your content.

Hopefully with future iterations, the difference between EasyVideoEmbeds and Youtube will become more obvious. A few features I will be adding soon include

- Dynamically generate code, ie. Custom start time, video cropping, auto-play toggling

- Video conversion (from any video format to html5 supported format)

- Analytics

From my experience, stock options are priced based on start date(correct me if this is not standard). While the price changes less frequently for private stocks compared to public stocks, they still change (Typically through investment events as you mentioned). Thus, if this particular startup raised a seed round in the coming months, then the value of the stock options would not rise as op mentioned - "The option % they've offered me would only rise in value" - since the pricing of the stock options would be different.

Please elaborate.

Did they offer you equity or stock options? If it's options, then the value of the stock options won't rise since the price of the options is priced at the value of the stock the day you start.

I would like more users to register my side project (http://getmousetrack.com), but I can't seem to convert anyone who visits the project site. At this point, I think I would pay for some service that gives me honest feedback on my landing page and maybe suggest ways to improve conversion rates.
