Bryan here. 15+ years in drone development. Aerodynamics, MDO, autonomy, and getting things out of the lab and into the field.

On the side I'm building some things to help families connect and plan for the future.

Group Space (https://group-space.com), a private, end-to-end encrypted app for parents to connect around their kids' groups. Built it because our preschool class had no good way to find each other.

Retire Plan (https://retire-plan.app/origin), a retirement calculator. It started life as an Excel sheet I shared on r/personalfinance years ago.

Not a finance professional, just a FIRE striver :) Happy to talk drones, encryption, or launching small projects.

bmoathn··on Thoughts on Peter Thiel's better evil than bad argument
To me, just seems like a pointless statement. Yes, "good" has two meanings and therefore two antonyms... So what? Why compare them. They're independent. It's like saying "what is worse, a bee sting or stubbing your toe?"

Ah interesting thanks for the references I will take a look
bmoathn··on MPH Drone RTOS
It seems like an interesting project - I hope that your real interest is the embedded systems design and software, because if your true goal is an efficient path to a new fast drone platform, your README seems to kind of short circuit the trade study for DIYing an RTOS. But, it's going to be a great embedded systems project and you'll learn a lot that's for sure!
bmoathn··on Hiring a Founding CTO
I mean, if it was me, I would not be launching with a business name so close to a well known and established brand https://shield.ai/ your SEO is DOA

Don't have a mac to try but site examples look cool! How did you handle arctic regions, arctic DEM? I assume it's an online app so you're serving the terrain height data or does it run offline?

Cool project. Feels like google earth mixed with a lowfi steam game i love Art of Rally :)

bmoathn··on AI needs $6T in annual revenue to justify data centre boom
Such an interesting dilemma. Arguably an incredibly transformative new industry for which the market cannot fundamentally bear the costs. (or IDK, does it actually work now?) How will it play out??

I don't care how good AI is at something like software development or whatever task. If customers were paying real prices for usage would any of us be using it?

Any data out there on how far off enterprise API pricing is from actual compute COGS for these models right now?

bmoathn··on AI needs $6T in annual revenue to justify data centre boom
you might make a hypothesis they'd offset operations costs like headcount for this but I think the counterpoint is stronger, if they benefit from increased productivity in your example, why not run more net production from same input.

Still though, the thesis seems based on an assumption that the companies would experience either major growth or major efficiency gain, neither of which really pass the smell test to me. Option 1 growth - money has to come from somewhere ultimately? Option 2 efficiency - put into profit rather than simple offset to AI provider?

Or the AI providers get companies hooked with subsidized pricing that unwinds later and you end up with the Uber/AirBNB situation of market capture and good product reverting to mean level of price/quality over time. Tinfoil hat thinks it ultimately gets squeezed out of retail investors in index funds.

bmoathn··on Are new OpenAI models getting better for coding?
do you know of anyone that's put out quantified studies on this? I'd be super curious to see. Like benchmarks at release vs 1wk vs 1mo?
bmoathn··on Fable Decides, Opus and Sonnet Do the Work: How I Route Claude Code Subagents
It's pretty straightforward - I do the same when I'm worried about Fable usage quota. "Your usage is limited, run the token-heavy work through Opus5.5 subagents" simple as that. It works, lets Fable orchestrate, plan, and verify work.

Seems like a workaround that Anthropic might easily turn off if they decide they care.

bmoathn··on Northstar Browser
I get Netscape in the 90's vibes and I'm here for it :)
bmoathn··on Show HN: Trail – new kind of logic game
i like the slick minimal ui. would be interesting to get some speed bonus as to me the most fun was trying to solve them quickly
bmoathn··on Show HN: A short study on where audiophile reviews disagree
I think this is actually awesome for the reviews. It's like a meta-analysis badge for shopping which personally I love the idea. Not to mention it's a great revenue path for your product
bmoathn··on Moore's Law for UAV Density
What scenario are you thinking about? We'll have more UAVs flying over time, but the time to double being short and staying consistent - I don't really see the specific reason to care about the rate of increase. My bet would be you see a combination of trends like how commercial air traffic expanded from the 50's to today, as well as like what happened with bird scooters (growth/death) turning into current ebike personal transport. So there will be cycles of businesses pushing, and communities/gov keeping it in check
bmoathn··on Ask HN: How do you get your hands on physics environments for your robotics SIM?
In my experience there are different choices based on the software/development architecture you're using. For example are you using ROS2 or ardupilot in any way? Then maybe Gazebo. Most of my team uses Gazebo and while I find it a little clunky, it usually gets the job done.

I've heard some good things about the sim environment Nvidia put out but haven't tried it yet, I assume it has good physics.

bmoathn··on Revealing the details of how OpenAI agents hacked Hugging Face
if you want to deep dive it, you could spend an hour wading through some of their report details here, i find it pretty interesting. They had a task to do with limited context outside of that, so they tried things. Entertaining https://metr.org/blog/2026-08-26-openai-hugging-face-inciden...
bmoathn··on Too AI; Didn't Read
IMO I'd rather have fewer enshittified unusable websites so filled with ads I can't actually read anything than some awkwardly written paragraphs that I can skim/move on. I'd rather the pitchforks have been pointed at ad revenue toxicity the past decade than the AI stuff being the focal. Just my opinion.
bmoathn··on Too AI; Didn't Read
omg i love that. reminds me of the hours i've spent on the paperclip game
bmoathn··on Too AI; Didn't Read
Reminds me a little bit of that guy who made his company called "Polsia" about like one-shotting full companies or something. I think he had actual investors, would have loved to be in their internal staff meeting when the intern walked in and said "you know that spells AI slop right"
bmoathn··on Too AI; Didn't Read
I think they definitely are. One of the Opus 5.5 selling points in the release announcement was something like "less jargoney / rambling communication"

Might be a long road, but at least we'll have no shortage of good instagram memes in the meantime

bmoathn··on Too AI; Didn't Read
I've been thinking the same. Imagine 5 years from now - nothing is slowing down. The pace that my SW teams can produce legitimately good code that my Sr devs are like "yeah looks good, comes with test coverage, tests look good, CI is green, ship it" - it's insane.

For written work, i think we're so new that over a couple years two things will happen 1 - people get kinda used to it (frog in pot?) 2 - the AI will keep getting better and reducing these cringey sounding tells

What will be tough is finding that line of "does this paragraph add value to X" but that applies whether a person wrote it or an AI.
