blowsand··on China is fueling America's data center rage
Unsurprising.

I’m convinced many of the highly energetic opposition movements is foreign-born. Particularly those that are relatively spontaneous and nonsensically partisan.

blowsand··on Gavin Newsom Has an $18B Plan to Shore Up California's Utilities
Newsom has been “shoring up” California utility companies with customer’s money for years. They are big Newsom/party donors.
blowsand··on Show HN: I built a free ATS for small hiring teams
“free”
blowsand··on San Mateo County Moves to Regulate Humanoid Robots
“the county intends to hold businesses financially accountable for automation.”

What.

blowsand··on Ask HN: Please give us an option to hide our username in the upper right corner
Back of the line pal. You can have username hiding after we get dark mode.
blowsand··on Uncapping the U.S. House is achievable and impactful
“You can also reach out to your local County Democratic Party, Indivisible Chapter, or other activist group and request they add uncapping the U.S. House of Representatives as an officially endorsed policy”

I’m unfamiliar with this idea. I read the entire post. When I got to the above quote I am unsure why the suggestion is to reach out to only a Democrat Party rep. Is this idea not also beneficial/desirable for the Republican Party?

blowsand··on Show HN: A site that emails you the day your Bitcoin stack hits $1M
So, basically it’s a stop-loss notification for those holding $2M now?
blowsand··on US Air Force B-52 bomber crashes after takeoff, Edwards Air Force Base says
Please do more research. They are most decidedly not “simply too old”. They have been “refreshed” many times over - from engines, to flight electronics, to targeting and comms systems, to airframe structures, to coffeemaker automation.
blowsand··on Ask HN: How do you cope when your startup contracts?
Honestly only read enough of that to get the gist, but having been through many iterations of this over a couple decades of living a life in SV tech - you carry on. Each time you take away (hopefully) some improved sensitivity to the flags and signs that help guide your future decisions. That said, it’s also the nature of a fast moving industry to rapidly ideate-float-fund-fold.
blowsand··on Gelatine Sculpt: Can This "Gelatin Trick" Transform Your Fat?
Garbage spam.
blowsand··on Housekeeping Wages to Top $110K Year in New York City by Early 2030s
Isn’t that just about the average wage for a degreed finance middling in NYC?
blowsand··on Mississippi's Air Quality Is Worsening Amid AI Data Center Boom, Report Finds
Headlines that vaguely attempt to infer causality or even unproven correlation are getting increasingly frustrating to sift through.

“The data predates a boom in data center development across Mississippi.”

blowsand··on Iran's Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is killed in Israeli strike, ending 36-year rule
Defend your thesis.

blowsand··on [dead]
Ad spam. Adios.
blowsand··on Gizmo: A TikTok for interactive, vibe-coded mini apps
Why does this require a phone number to get any form of access?

No thanks.

blowsand··on DOJ has subpoenaed central bank, threatens criminal indictment
*all administrations

Or do you believe it’s only one party? What’s your take on the 4 years Biden was in office wrt investigations and prosecutions of Democrat rivals? Clean hands, all legitimate?

For reference I’m not a Trump supporter, since that seems to be relevant to up/down votes here.

blowsand··on DOJ has subpoenaed central bank, threatens criminal indictment
*past 5 years

Which was exactly my point. It happens more than it should, and it’s wielded by both parties.

That said, as in all cases I’d like to see the evidence and probable cause and not rely on Fox News or CNN.

blowsand··on Sergey Brin is joining Larry Page, in reducing ties to CA
When I read comments like yours I always wonder why the commenter isn’t wildly successful at creating wealth for themselves and jobs for many. Why haven’t you? Why haven’t you built a big business and started giving money away beyond what the tax and regulatory laws call for?
blowsand··on My Snapdragon Dev Kit was healthy and working fine until a Windows update failed
Completely off topic: the font on that site is quite readable and easy on the eyes and brain, the way the dyslexia font on the Kindle is.
blowsand··on Trump says Venezuela’s Maduro captured after strikes
It has been presented as a law enforcement action to bring a wanted criminal to justice. What do you mean by “televised sham trial”? Are you suggesting the US manufactured evidence?

Have you considered this is part of a negotiated exit?

blowsand··on California’s billionaire tax, explained
Why $1bn? Is that $1bn in cash? Cash plus rare gems, excluding Sierra gold nuggets? Equities plus commercial real estate over 10 floors tall? What makes 1% a good threshold? Why not 4? Why not tax all assets on a recurring basis? Do California taxpayers still trust their government will properly and responsibly spend a $100bn tax windfall? What happens when that is spent and deficits return? Another “one time tax” on multimillionaires?

Just making a point about the poor handling of existing tax income and spending discipline, as well as the very arbitrary nature of these tax-seeking initiatives.

blowsand··on Trump Administration to Overhaul Lottery System for H-1B Visas
I often wonder if leaving out “illegal” or “illegally present” in statements like “dramatically stepped up deportations of immigrants” is intentional, or if there’s some nuance that’s just not obvious to those of us who legally immigrated.
blowsand··on Scoop: TikTok signs deal for U.S. unit after yearslong saga
I mean, ok, but “scoop” is a bit much. Every fact of the deal to acquire was detailed months ago.

What would be a real scoop is reporting more details on the vast number of Bytedance employees that have been literally installed in the “USDS” organization in recent weeks. It has quickly become indistinguishable from CCP-controlled Bytedance. Allegiances are sus.

blowsand··on National Security Strategy of the United States of America [pdf]

blowsand··on 40% of young U.S. women want to leave the country: Gallup poll

blowsand··on Peter Thiel: Capitalism Isn't Working for Young People
Yikes.
blowsand··on Ask HN: Anyone pivoted from SWE/mgmt to a different career in your 30/40s+?
Similar background and weariness with tech, but I’m a bit older, and I’ve actually left and returned to tech a couple times.

A question I’d ask you is, are there other things that really call out to you? If you could do anything as a career, or at least in a phase of your career, do you have deeply felt answers?

I’ve made the “anything but tech” move before and regretted it after a period of decompression and perspective reset.
