blensor··on Redot Engine: A Fork of the Godot Engine
According to Akien, at the time that fork was created the total number of blocked users on github was 3, as of this morning the total number of blocked users on github has increased to 5.

So that doesn't really seem to be the reason why that fork was created. Maybe it's someone who was unhappy with the development in general and this was the reason to pull the trigger but overall this does look a bit off.

blensor··on Transparenttextures.com
Good to see others noticed that too. This repeating what the thing they comment to just slightly different seems very off.
blensor··on Core: an experimental new way to write videogames
Fully agree, in Godot a Scene and a Node are the same thing which makes it much simpler conceptually. Also, having a true text based scene format makes merging commits easier than merging unity changes.
blensor··on Show HN: I've spent nearly 5y on a web app that creates 3D apartments
VR ready? Well that's interesting, I have to check it out.

You probably should mention that on the front page somewhere

blensor··on EU countries must implement right to repair laws within two years
I didn't argue that to shame on Apple. I can understand why that is done ( especially with warranty extensions )

What I am arguing is that there may be a much cheaper ("easier" for the person who knows what to do) way to repair it if you don't care about the warranty but that path can currently be blocked by the manufacturer.

For example: We had a deadline for submitting our final game build last year and my laptop where I had everything setup died a day before the deadline. I went to a local electronics shop, bought a different laptop, removed the SSD from the broken one put it in the new one and was backup and running 30 minutes after returning home.

I would not have cared about warranty there, only about the speed of getting back up and running to meet the deadline.

blensor··on EU countries must implement right to repair laws within two years
Can't both things be true at the same time?

* He is fighting an honest fight for the right to repair

* His business is benefiting from right to repair laws

For example when he supported the right to repair for farming equipment, I hardly believe he did that for his repair shop bottom line

blensor··on EU countries must implement right to repair laws within two years
Saying Louis Rossmann is fighting for the right to repair while trying to keep individuals from repairing their own devices is like saying Linus Torvalds created Linux to keep people from getting the idea to build their own operating system.

Rossmann is fighting the good fight and also often doing videos showing how a repair actually works. Most famously a video where he showed that a certain type of common Macbook screen repair is just a simple bent pin that he even repaired for free while the official Apple repair would have cost hundreds of dollars

blensor··on Meta Horizon OS
It's going to be interesting if Google/Samsung will win out or Meta/etc.
blensor··on Difficulty levels of most European languages for Americans
> My point was specifically that foreigners who learn "vanilla" German might end up needing translators when they hear some of those dialects.

With respect to that map though it doesn't matter because someone learning German for traveling to Germany and someone learning German for traveling to Austria will learn the same language, so it doesn't make sense to color it differently.

The dialect is something you acquire while being embedded in the region after you already know German

blensor··on Difficulty levels of most European languages for Americans
I mean yes some Austrian dialects are hard, but the grammar is the same in Austria and Germany, and apart from certain words that sometimes confuse the other it's still the same German.

Especially at the border you can have German pupils to attend schools in Austria and vice versa and none of them needs a special class for learning the other German language

blensor··on Emad Mostaque resigned as CEO of Stability AI
I mean of course I am a sample size of one when I am speaking about my own experience?

That's why I asked that question to see if others notice something similar or if that's just me

blensor··on Emad Mostaque resigned as CEO of Stability AI
Are we sure that Midjourney is still on that trajectory?

I was a heavy user since the beginning but my usage has dropped to almost 0

blensor··on Use of decimal point is 1.5 centuries older than historians thought
They could have said 150 years, but then, where's the point
blensor··on How SSH port became 22 (2017)
What's even more annoying is that -P for scp has to be put before the target while -p for the ssh client I am using can be put after the target.

So when you write your scp command and then realize you forgot to put in the port you have to go back and put it before the target.

blensor··on Apple Vision Pro available for pre-order
As far as I know, the orders placed now have a delivery date 5-8 weeks out, so it's not the initial batch.
blensor··on Apple Vision Pro available for pre-order
By all means, go ahead if that's your opinion.

I did my best to upvote the comments to balance it out.

You can look them up yourself, they were from astrange, LeoPanthera, sytelus, mdgrech23 and my own further down below

And BTW, my own was just a plain response about how quickly it sold out, no judgement, hyping or hating on it.

blensor··on Apple Vision Pro available for pre-order
I think we don't really need to look that far. I have never seen a Hackernews posts that downvoted so many completely normal replies like in this one. I am expecting this here to be downvoted the same just for mentioning it.
blensor··on Apple Vision Pro available for pre-order
Apparently they sold out the Vision Pro in the first 15 minutes
blensor··on Why Instagram failed to become TikTok
That's the right term, it's addictive but I wouldn't say it's engaging.

Every time I am uninstalling TikTok my life feels better, more relaxed.

Moving to my new phone I've again left it uninstalled, now for 2 months and I hope I can keep it that way

blensor··on How meta built the infrastructure for Threads
I see some growth since they opened to European users late last year.

It's going to be interesting if they really enable full ActivityPub integration

blensor··on Alaska Airlines grounds Boeing 737 Max 9 planes after mid-air window blowout
Somehow it feels less error prone to service an extra door than to replace the whole element from time to time. At least to my armchair viewpoint
blensor··on Stoßlüften: Shock Ventilation
Are you writing this on an English keyboard ;)

I am pretty sure most modern browsers are able to display an ü so you can write "Lüften"

blensor··on Godot: A Collaboration with Google and the Forge
That is really great news, that should also have a positive impact on the VR rendering
blensor··on W4 Games raises $15M to drive video game development with Godot Engine
I don't have any up to date information on the path W4 will go, but Juan and Remi have always been very clear that they have no plans to change anything in how Godot is licensed nor would they be able to.

I did not expect W4 to get that much funding, but at it's current trajectory I could imagine it becoming a kind of publisher of Godot games. This is completely without any evidence, just my gut feeling.

I could also see them provide the kind of SaaS backend tools one needs to publish a game ( Network backend, payments, content delivery )

blensor··on Why I always hit the crosswalk button (2015)
I assume it's the turn right on red that conflicts with the pedestrian green light

Although that's the same in Europe, if you turn right on green you usually have to be aware of a green pedestrian light that crosses the street you want to turn into.

The difference is that here in Austria walking is much more common and you usually get fined quickly if you take the right of way from a pedestrian

blensor··on DALL·E 3
Yes, that describes it pretty well.

By default the random seed is different for each generation, so even if the prompt and every setting is the same you'll get vastly different images ( which is the expected outcome ).

When you set the seed to a fixed number you get the same image every time you generate if all other settings and the prompt are exactly the same.

So I start off with a pretty high CFG Scale to give it enough room to imagine things ( Refiner and Resize turned off )

Once I have a good base image, I'll send it to img2img and iterate some more one it.

blensor··on DALL·E 3
I am using Automatic1111 and SDXL and this is exactly the workflow people are doing with that.

Generate an image, maybe even a low quality one. Fix the seed and then start iterating on that

blensor··on The New Godot Development Fund
The funny thing is that if you are looking for some GDScript call into the engine it oftern supports exactly the functionality you need for your use case even though other more common use cases are not supported.

It shows that the developers making it are also the ones using it for themselves.

Perfect time to open up a Godot porting consulting business :)
