blensor··on Gemini 2.5 Pro vs. Claude 3.7 Sonnet: Coding Comparison
Did you paste it into the chat or did you use it with a coding agent like Cline?

I am majorly impressed with the combination VSCode + Cline + Gemini

Today I had it duplicate an esp32 proram from UDP communication to TCP.

It first copied the file ( funnily enough by writing it again instead of just straight cp ) Then it started to just change all the headers and declarations Then in a third step it changed one bigger function And in the last step it changed some smaller functions

And it reasoned exactly that way "Let's start with this first ... Let's now do this .... " until is was done

blensor··on Tencent's 'Hunyuan-T1'–The First Mamba-Powered Ultra-Large Model
I have absolutely no idea how much the legislation has cost but the actual implementation is done by each manufacturer individually so that is not taxpayer money, and I haven't noticed containers become more expensive either. So this sounds like a bit of a made up argument to me
blensor··on Tencent's 'Hunyuan-T1'–The First Mamba-Powered Ultra-Large Model
I always find the caps hate so funny too. I mean it's not something that the world truly needed but I don't have a problem with it and it comes in quite handy when drinking water while driving
blensor··on Claude can now search the web
Funny thing is that I have the obsidian-mcp-tools installed and today claude-desktop just starting fetching stuff from the web through that because it exposes a fetch tool to claude.

So this limitation is a bit arbitrary anyway.

blensor··on Ggwave: Tiny Data-over-Sound Library
I love GGWave. We've been using it in our VR game to automatically sync ingame recordings with an external camera.

At the beginning of the recording it plays the code "xrvideo" which in the second stage of merging the video it looks for the tag in both streams and matches them up

blensor··on Anthropic: "Applicants should not use AI assistants"
I can even feel it in my own coding. I've been coding almost my entire life all the way back to C64 Basic and ever since I am relying on Copilot for most of my regular work I can feel my non AI assisted coding skills get rusty.

That's a scary thing

blensor··on We're accelerating the Android XR platform with a new agreement with HTC
I don't really disagree, although I did try out the GodotEngine editor on the Quest with just a small bluetooth keyboard [1] and that experience was actually more than just acceptable. Full disclaimer, I have not repeated that since because I haven't felt the urge to.

But where productivity really makes sense are the pure glasses ( like XREAL One, Viture, etc. ). Ever since I tried those I do want that much more than productivity in a headset.

blensor··on We're accelerating the Android XR platform with a new agreement with HTC
Current estimates are around 30M but I think that was before this Christmas period
blensor··on We're accelerating the Android XR platform with a new agreement with HTC
It is really fun experimenting in that space and it has completely sold me on the future of optical AR glasses, even though our current product is fully focused on VR/Passthrough MR
blensor··on We're accelerating the Android XR platform with a new agreement with HTC
In an AMA last year Bosworth said that they offered Google to have flat apps on the Quest but they wanted to limit it to that and not allow VR apps AFAIK ( they are making the money with the VR apps, so they most likely won't give that market away ) and Google wasn't interested.

For gaming it's not an issue but if they ever want to sell people on the idea of it being used for productivity, that flat android app market would be a big factor. They have recently started their own toolkit to build/convert regular android apps to HorizonOS so they maybe hope to beat Google at their own game, but we'll see how that turns out

blensor··on We're accelerating the Android XR platform with a new agreement with HTC
They still have the problem of no Google Playstore apps. And it doesn't look like Google and Meta are coming to an agreement anytime soon
blensor··on We're accelerating the Android XR platform with a new agreement with HTC
We are currently trying to hack together something akin to what the AR glasses like Meta Orion and Snap Spectacles are trying to be in the future, but with tech that is available today, and by using a more limited use case of fitness.

What we are aiming for is a general compute puck + display glasses + added 6dof tracking.

In this video we tried the Nintendo Switch as the compute plus self tracked HTC Vive Ultimate trackers for the head tracking plus Viture Pro XR glasses: https://youtube.com/shorts/U4vhEPQw-Uo

The Nintendo Switch was more a "can we do it" rather than a "that's what we should do" but it shows the overall idea

The outside view of VR workouts is usually the "play a game, workout by accident" appeal.

Although I believe it's usually the other way around. People play games where they are moving quite a lot and afterwards realize that they are actual getting exhausted. And then they realize that they didn't really notice that exhaustion while doing the actual movement ( focus on the game, outside world mostly blocked off ) so the thinking is "wow I can do workouts without having to dread them and without being pulled away by other distractions, and all that from my living room"

There are already studies that show people feel less exhaustion while doing a VR Workout compared to a classic workout when done at the same intensity

blensor··on We're accelerating the Android XR platform with a new agreement with HTC
Not on standalone VR, there it's more like Gorilla Tag, Horizon Worlds, etc.

I am biased since we are developing it but fitness is one of the strongest segments in VR, that plus social experiences for the younger generations.
blensor··on CEO of AI Music Company Says People Don't Like Making Music
This was not meant to be a statement about people who enjoy making music but that in general people don't suddenly become more willing to make their own music just because there is an AI tool for it. It still takes the will and desire to do it even if the barrier is so low as it is now.
blensor··on CEO of AI Music Company Says People Don't Like Making Music
I didn't mean that people who are making music don't like making music, I meant people who don't want to play and instrument or sing or user a DAW or any other kind of conventional music making don't suddenly become interested in making music, even if they do enjoy listening to good music
blensor··on CEO of AI Music Company Says People Don't Like Making Music
I would go one step further and say even with tools like Suno and Udio people don't like making music.

People simply want to enjoy good music other people put their time in to create it, and I think that is a good thing.

blensor··on CRT Simulation in a GPU Shader, Looks Better Than Black Frame Insertion
I assume some people will approach this as stupidly as I did.

I wanted to see something and clicked on the 120Hz version not knowing what my laptop display actually is and while I am not photosensitive this was quite uncomfortable. Thinking I don't understand what that is supposed to be I clicked on the 480Hz to see if that is better/different and that was even worse. As a hail mary I clicked on the 240Hz and well that really made sense and was actually comfortable to look at.

So if you are like me and didn't really read through the text, this will only work for you if you select the Hz that matches your display ( which kinda is the whole point of why they are doing that ). If it looks bad you clicked the wrong link

blensor··on The Curse of Recursion: Training on generated data makes models forget (2023)
Once more and more new training images are based off of those new upscaled images the training of those upscaling algorithms will tend to generate even more of the same type of information drowning out the other information
blensor··on ‘With brain preservation, nobody has to die’
From what my experience tells me, many people prioritize their children's life over their own. Kind of like the insurance policy that lives on carrying their values further after they have died. So this is not really that much different. Your own body is nearing it's end but a new vessel is carrying your values your influence on the world further. Even if it is a physically separate part from the own body it's the close enough for me to be considered living beyond my death.
blensor··on World Labs: Generate 3D worlds from a single image
You are the maintainer of A-Frame? That's awesome.

We used GodotEngine in the past when it was still called VRWorkout but had to switch to Unity due to business reasons.

The environment creator uses several off the shelf models under the hood with custom loras and blender at the end to create the exportable meshes.

Users usually need to workout in the game to achieve coins to generate environments because we have no actual monetization behind it, so we can't have people generate endless amounts of environments, but if you want to try it out send me a message at michael -at- xrworkout.io and I'll set you up so you can try it.

blensor··on World Labs: Generate 3D worlds from a single image
The prompting is done from the browser and it's then automatically added in the game so the next time you do your workout it is already there to select.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7SVD_tLGAJk

The environment is 2.5D so mostly a displaced depth map but with some additional logic to keep the ground and horizon sane.

We aren't planning to do it for external use but it is creating a glb that you can download in theory if you know where it points to on our server

blensor··on World Labs: Generate 3D worlds from a single image
We recently added an environment creator for our VR game which does kinda a similar thing but for even less freedom of movement, so I think I have a little bit of insight into it.

After seeing what they are showing on their page I am majorly impressed and don't feel they are misleading anyone at all

blensor··on NASA reconnected with Voyager 1 after a brief pause
Voyager is something that I keep thinking every time I see people talking about what great things musk/spacex are doing with their fail often/fail fast approach.

I do get the value of iterating quickly towards a solution but that does not invalidate the conservative engineering approach other people have to take to build something much more stable/reliable where they have to be very cautious and can't just break things until you have a solution.

blensor··on A return to hand-written notes by learning to read and write
Same goes for my signature, I almost get anxious when I have to sign something on paper.
blensor··on Traveling with Apple Vision Pro
Pretty much yes, there are already hints that this will be coming but for the current experience what would be the benefit Quest with battery included is already the same weight as the Vision Pro without the battery. So just add an external battery bank via USB and you have the same weight experience
blensor··on Busy Status Bar
And interestingly none of the socials I could find are mentioning it.

I am not saying it is a scam it's just very strange that all connections between busy.bar and flipper devices are one way. One would expect some two way mentions

blensor··on Gboard Double Sided Version
Yes, a cup without a handle is just a ball
blensor··on Redot Engine: A Fork of the Godot Engine
Anyone can make a fork, they don't need to justify it. I was just saying that the maybe unjustified blocking was limited to social media and did not extend to the actual development.

The reason Juan has given for blocking were github comments that were such that he had to block them. I haven't seen them so I can't verify it but the fact that it was limited to very few accounts compared to what happened on social media leads me to believe that argument.
