blakebreeder··on The secret sauce of TikTok’s recommendations
idk, my TikTok feed is full of cats and dogs doing funny things.
blakebreeder··on Should you delete your Patreon account after they laid off their security team?
multiple times in that article it's admitted that being a furry is sexual--because everything is. comparing it to Tupperware parties, as if the rate of sex at Tupperware parties is in any way comparable.
blakebreeder··on What ever happened to the transhumanists?
you are so unreasonable it's almost funny. why even continue after your first statement? why even make your first statement? go bait somewhere else.
blakebreeder··on What ever happened to the transhumanists?
how convenient. relegating any concern for the modern trans movement to pure malevolence. I guess it makes it easier for you.

+1 for tech ingredients. that guy is awesome. you're missing AvE in the shop category though.
blakebreeder··on Amazon spending $465M on season 1 of The Lord of the Rings series
You managed to ignore "generally" twice (specifically put in to avoid your exact kind of response), construct a strawman argument for me, and then failed to actually defeat that strawman argument. Who is talking about "stars?" None of the cast I mentioned in the original comment are stars. They're ESTABLISHED, EXPERIENCED, PROVEN actors. That's literally the whole point I was making.

And your response to the strawman you constructed is... there is zero correlation between stardom and acting ability? It kind of seems like you and the op are saying there is an INVERSE correlation. But I'm the crazy talker here? okay.

blakebreeder··on Amazon spending $465M on season 1 of The Lord of the Rings series
I'm not quibbling over anything. I disagree with "Unheard of actors is generally a good thing when doing a new series" and the logic provided. It's just ridiculous on its face. Generally, people with more experience produce better results. Generally, people who have a history of producing better results produce better results. Who would have thought?

idk, all of the best characters in game of thrones were the established actors. ned stark, Robert baratheon, roose Bolton, tywin lanister.

Alright, we have successfully destroyed all 400,000,000 guns in the US. What do these disturbed young men, who would murder children if given the opportunity, do? Are they magically cured? Or do they rent a U-Haul and drive through a little league game? what do we do that at that point? or do you make concessions and argue semantics and degrees of lethality?

blakebreeder··on 3,200-year-old Egyptian tablet records excuses for why people missed work
The word "excuse" doesn't require the negative connotation you're ascribing to it.
blakebreeder··on Ask HN: Why can't I host my own email?
I set up mail-in-a-box a few years ago and it works great.
blakebreeder··on CNN+ streaming service is shutting down a month after launching
not sure how hundreds of people and millions of dollars spent to produce content that gets the views of a mildly popular bedroom YouTuber doesn't suggest "terminal decline."
blakebreeder··on Ask HN: Have you ever switched personal email providers?
I went from Gmail to my own server using Mail in a Box. The initial setup was a pain, but after a few years I haven't needed to touch it beyond an update every once in a while.
blakebreeder··on Reasons to switch from Windows to Linux
Yeah, I don't feel that way at all about Linux and I daily drive it. Could you imagine our mothers troubleshooting any of the following things that have regularly happened to me on Linux in the last 5 years I've been daily driving it:

* Hm, my sound stopped working. * Hm, dhcp stopped working. * X has completely failed to start. * This website just straight up doesn't load. * Thia game won't load (pretend it's solitaire). * This update broke my boot. * Seemingly doing nothing broke my boot. * This update broke my browser. * This application does not work without configuration. * My monitor layout is broken.

Maybe things are better in Ubuntu land, but I doubt it's as seamless as Windows/Mac.

blakebreeder··on Americans Are Keeping Their Cars Longer, as Vehicle Age Hits 12 Years
I've ridden in a few new cars recently. Maybe I'm turning into a crotchety old man, but who needs massaging seats, engine start buttons, automatic trunk closing, temperature targeting AC, charging docks, or proximity based unlocking?

>The techniques used to smear individual observations over vast swathes of territory tend to leave much to be desired.

I am by no means an expert, but after farting around with climate data, even today I'm curious how they smear data across comparatively smaller swathes of territory.

I've noticed, in my area (south west), that many of the stations are located in seemingly unique microclimates--like the tops of mountains, on the shores of rivers, etc.

It roadblocked my layman research because distance to a given station was not very indicative of how that area's climate is.
