blainsmith··on Tracing HTTP Requests with Go's net/HTTP/httptrace
I agree with you about C# there. I don't use it really at all, but the times I did it felt like I was writing Go with how nice the stdlib was and that I could just use the dotnet CLI on Linux too. It was pleasant and productive to use.
blainsmith··on Tracing HTTP Requests with Go's net/HTTP/httptrace
That get's the job done too for those events depending on what you need them for. httptrace could be heavy handed if all you want is simple events like you show.

Author here... Thanks for sharing this. It has been fun to use while we get ready to launch https://probes.dev with tracing being core to the service.

blainsmith··on Introduction to AT Protocol
If you want to find other apps that are using Bluesky and ATProto we run https://blueskydirectory.com for that. Feel free to add any apps you find to it!
blainsmith··on Show HN: apply.coop - Matching people with jobs that fit their values & passions
Yeah, we're working with folks to add more and more, but like any online service it takes time to fill the database with info and that takes exposure to know it exists.
blainsmith··on Ask HN: Where do you reliably find worldwide remote jobs?
We're planning to launch https://apply.coop soon that will have remote jobs listed from reputable co-ops.
blainsmith··on Ask HN: How can I get out of tech?
I'm currently going through this now myself. I'm 42 tomorrow and I'll have been programming for 27 years. I'm just so tired of it all, but I don't want to lose the joy of programming. Im trying to just go freelance and be in charge of my own destiny. We'll see where it goes.

Just know you're not alone.

blainsmith··on The Framework Laptop
I have noticed that most laptops under 14" have those 1/2 keys, but once you go to 15" the overall weight increases a lot. The only 14" laptop I've used with full arrow keys was the System76 Galago Pro Gen 3 (galp3).
blainsmith··on Google Analytics: Stop feeding the beast
I've been using https://www.goatcounter.com and it works great. Nice and simple and I can turn off some tracking features for things I don't care about.
blainsmith··on The Framework Laptop
I agree. If I ever get a new machine it will be a Lenovo. The build quality is amazing.
blainsmith··on The Framework Laptop
Haha. I have adapted to that too, but why even bother with 1/2 keys then. The look like an afterthought.
blainsmith··on The Framework Laptop
Great. Another laptop with 1/2 arrow keys. Such a shame.

blainsmith··on Finding an Alternative to Mac OS X
I've been very happy with https://apricityos.com running Cinnamon desktop.
blainsmith··on Ask HN: Static site generator with web UI?
For side jobs I always use http://statamic.com since it is all flat files that I can edit in a text editor, but my clients can use the GUI admin. I can use Git with it and you can turn it on for the admin to so any edits made by the GUI are committed as well.

I am good friends with the creator as well, but I would still use it otherwise.

blainsmith··on Show HN: All available three letter .io domains
Nice list. Though it would make it easier to scan if the domains were floated left and not in columns like a newspaper.

And yet it is still square and ugly because of it.

blainsmith··on Ask HN: Should I attend college?
If you are going for CS then just stick with a state school education. I regret going to RPI and Harvard and ending up with enormous school loans, but at the time I thought I need to be at a well known school in order to succeed.
blainsmith··on Ask HN: Where do you register your domains?
Also Namecheap.
blainsmith··on Ask HN: Is it possible to get a tech job without a degree?
Yes. I actually spoke about that recently http://blainsmith.com/articles/tedxalbany-the-master-of-my-f...
blainsmith··on Ask HN: How many "self-taught" programmers and how did you do it?
1) I started back in 1996 and taught myself HTML with books only. I went to a technical high school that taught the typical plumbing, carpentry, etc., but they also had an IT track in which I learned more about HTML and web design. I kept teaching myself via books and online tutorials through college, because college was not teaching what I wanted.

2) I started learning in 1996.

3) I started working professionally (part-time) my Junior year in high school for a dot-com business. I have been moving my way up the chain since then. Now I am a partner at MadGlory building custom large scale web apps and web properties for the gaming industry.

blainsmith··on Topcoat – CSS for clean and fast web apps
I've used http://unsemantic.com (layout only) and http://www.getskeleton.com (layout and minimal design) with good results.

Whether its a fad or not the combination of the 2 work very well for a lot of people.
