I take it you don't use Google Docs. It has improved considerably over the last few years:
- better office import
- better commenting / colab
- several UI refreshs
It hasn't changed a lot in the last year or two, but with "since 2005" it's hard to take your comment seriously.
From the discussion from 2 days ago: "Hi there, original tweeter here. Just to clarify: no one said when this work would land, simply that we are working on it! Sorry to disappoint" https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=17300893
The article says that jaws got smaller due to agriculture making food softer, and this evolutionary change causes both snoring and crooked teeth, which in turn braces are a bandaid for. The point made in the heading isn't really discussed except in a parenthetical ("braces may also make this worse"). Baity headline.
There have always been heated arguments about which language is better, but not many languages get as many "I don't like it" blog posts as Swift (maybe Go). It's probably just because people are usually free to choose a language, but are getting their arm twisted to use Swift on iOS. That's fine for people who like Swift, but leaves no option but complain to the others.
It's weird how gcc and msvc end up in the same basket here. Mozilla say they're all about openness. gcc is a free and open source compiler, while msvc is proprietary and closed source. I can see the case for keeping gcc supported, but if you don't have to support msvc, why would Mozilla give it more attention than for example icc?
I don't think they'll tell engineers to make the experience bad. I used to work for Google, and it doesn't strike me as the place where that would work. More likely is that there just isn't anyone responsible for this; whether that's due to iPad being too small to be worth the opportunity cost of putting someone one it, or due to the more cynical interpretation.
iPad is the iOS sideshow in sale numbers by far -- no reason to prioritize it. And, more cynical, using the parent comment's reasoning: iPad _is_ a competitor to Google's Chrome OS in education, so maybe they don't want it to work too well.
I tried it on my macbook, and for some reason I can't keep 'j' pressed to scroll down - I have to press it once per row. This works fine in MacVim and Terminal.app vim. Does anyone know why this won't work?
MacVim or gvim is still a regular native app without a js vm and a web enviroment. It's less minimal then terminal vim, but way more minimal than electron.
I don't mind electron myself, but that ps sounds fairly disingenuous to me.
Old Media ist publishing negative articles about tech at any chance they have, due to them losing all their advertising dollars to online ads. It's just that this time the message finds some traction.
Subjectively I like cherry more than Mathias so far from the typing feel. I built keyboards with blues, greens, and reds, and I got one keyboard with Mathias switches. I like Topre even more than Cherry. But it's all very subjective.
http://www.open-std.org/jtc1/sc22/wg21/docs/papers/2018/p093... says "C++ is complicated, too complicated, yet we cannot remove significant facilities and changing them is
very hard. Changing parts deemed insignificant can be risky (we need better analysis tools
[Winter,2016]) and the potential gains would be insignificant. However, we badly need to simplify use of
C++" in its long-term goals. However, almost every short- and medium-term change planned runs counter to that long-term goal. How are we supposed to reach a long-term goal if every step taken along the way is in the opposite direction?
Tried it out. You can't sign in with your email address, you have to use a user name they assign to you. My assigned user name is more secure than my password and impossible to remember. I suppose it's good for security, but it's also super inconvenient.
Isn't skia able to call OpenGL too? Do you think your own thing will be lighter weight in the end? Which parts of skia do you think you won't need? (For sRGB, a patch for skia might be less work than a full new 2d library. Also depends on if your goal is to write fun code or to get a product out, of course.)
Got a chromecast, and my phone has a lot more trouble connecting to it than it used to have. Sounds like this might be the issue. Hopefully now that it's been identified, it'll be fixed.
