lol, This is such a bizarre hill to die. There is no evidence in this article of them saying this for any reason other than the staff and business. Could you imagine arguing that restaurants should let patrons who spit on their staff continue to eat there? I dont see what the problem.
bksenior··on Bill Gates calls for income tax in Washington state
What? If you make income on ip you get taxed. This point is strange.
bksenior··on SoftBank is still writing big checks
Hah! Everything is a ponzi scheme while in growth mode in the venture space if it's not profitable. There is most certainly a universe where the We brand isnt stained by greed, goes pubic, loses 15% early, but survives long enough to innovate survival.

The fault was that they killed the big story with Neumanns greed and it cratered confidence of the public markets and press.

bksenior··on SoftBank is still writing big checks
Not really. It's a thesis that if you own the top dogs in the most important consumer growth verticals that you will get both economies of scale and own sector growth. He might end up being very wrong, but it's not really more than that.

Good movie though.

bksenior··on Facebook Tells Barr It Won’t Open Up Encrypted Messages
Jefferson was staunch about the idea that the constitution should be rewritten every 19 years, so this idea of Originalism is conservatism draped in rhetorical clothing.

Founder intention is absolutely unknowable and it's a ridiculous argument.

Ive long said that a good enough/affordable sex robot is more dangerous to the western civilization than literally any weapon of mass destruction.
bksenior··on Saudi Aramco Is the WeWork of Energy with Pulled IPO
The statement is self defeating. Absolute power is playing far less "a game" for the continuted hold of power than is elected. You're right that people generally do whatever it is they think they can get away with, but simply put a king doesnt asnwer to anyone so he is more likely to act in self interest than someone who needs to please others.
bksenior··on Saudi Aramco Is the WeWork of Energy with Pulled IPO
Your using logic to answer a question that is normally one of emotion.

A single non elected ruler is going to make decisions on whim not process. As long as there is one unchecked person, you can basically be assured that unpredictability will be the norm.

bksenior··on Snap Detailed Facebook’s Aggressive Tactics in ‘Project Voldemort’ Dossier
Its much simpler than that. Decision making at a big company is layered. Anti-trust considerations is about as C-suite a concern as I can possibly think about. Operational leadership even VP is singing for their supper on a project by project basis (to gain status and move up the company ladder). So you get these things.

It's almost certainly a reflection of a culture who's motto was/maybe still is "move fast and break stuff." I think the idea of existential consequences for actions is relatively new one for FB (and to a lesser extent Google) and your seeing a company not move fast enough and a CEO who is probably a little bit underarmed when it comes to really understanding the stakes of certain types of public perception.

bksenior··on Legacy and Athlete Preferences at Harvard [pdf]
Yea, but the point is that its not necessarily causal. It would be like looking at people who died of cancer and determining weight-loss as one the best correlated culprits to ID it. It would probably catch a ton of people who were really sick, but it seems to ignore some of the deeper casualties.

The white thing certainly is problematic culturally, but it's not REALLY the problem its more of a symptom of previous power choosing future power.

bksenior··on Why Are America’s Three Biggest Metros Shrinking?
Because the first generation who was essentially denied the ability to comfortably afford housing/living are now having families are having to look elsewhere to commit and start a life.

There, I spared you a click.

bksenior··on WeWork Bonds Drop Below Par for First Time Since IPO Filing
Naw fam, you're ignoring the growing trend of short term leases and the value of a consistent repeatable brand in the space. It's not an industry killer, but they still do have a strong product.
bksenior··on WeWork Bonds Drop Below Par for First Time Since IPO Filing
yea, no. It's simply an overpriced asset and the market is concerned that without an adjustment there isnt much room to grow in value.

I dont think anyone think WeWork is not a strong business model. Id even take it one step further in that it's not the cash burn thats really killing people, it's the valuation. I know theyre connected as a larger company should hypothetically be able to sell less of itself for more money, but at 1/3 of the valuation I think the market feels different about the biz. Although the social signal of being forced to cut does some real bad psychological voodoo.

bksenior··on Dating: A Research Journal, Part 1 (2016)
No US women dont, it's just more competitive (looks, power, wealth) so it feels that way. Girls here are like girls everywhere else, what you're likely feeling is not being as high on the mate scale as you are in other markets.

bksenior··on Buy Low-Tops, Sell High-Tops: StockX Sneaker Exchange Is Worth $1B
Its a perfect feature. It reduces supply and creates incredible rarity amongst ones that were treated poorly. Its why a ton of war time artists are worth so much more than their peers who were prolific slightly after. Shit gets destroyed, those that dont become things of legend.

It's also a large reason baseball cards from the 50s and 60s are MUCH more valuable than the following gens.

bksenior··on We tried to hustle our way into YC after we got rejected
>That's not necessarily true, as plenty of businesses fail because they don't have a business plan for their product. The world is littered with great products that failed because there was no business plan or the business plan wasn't sustainable. That observation is a long horizon observation. In the short horizon most businesses tend to stagnate and die because of interest and growth. Unless theyre trying to grow an organic biz overtime (which applying to YC seems to signal otherwise) going and getting in the ecosystem would be by far the largest upside to the biz and more importantly the entrepreneurs.

> Combining the non-zero and best thing for the biz.

These are kids who by being in YC get expert observation and access to a network that they would take a decade to build. The only scenario in which not getting in is better is if they strike some insane gold pocket and they are physically too busy to participate in YC. They had YC as a captive audience and there was precedent for flexibility, thats non zero.

same same. I hope this serves as the intro to a story titled "The time YC almost made another $5b."
