bil7··on Same.energy: Image Search by Similarity
so awesome
bil7··on Analog computing may be coming back
gotta love Veritasium. Every video feels like time well spent.
bil7··on Diff Models – A New Way to Edit Code
for my day job, no, not frequently. When I'm writing in an unfamiliar language like bash or something, I'll do a little # implement a function that does x, y and z
bil7··on Ask HN: Are you going to shell out $42 for ChatGPT pro? Is it worth it?
I've used it to convert JS to TS by adding all the type annotations for me.
bil7··on Ask HN: Where are all the parties?
As an extrovert, that sounds like a total nightmare. Complete isolation for a week would drive me nuts.
bil7··on For your next side project, make a browser extension
I agree with who you're replying to. A blocker is no blocker if it is trivial to disable.
bil7··on Ask HN: Sites with the quality of Hacker News, but for more general topics?
multiple topics, discussed by people who are highly interested in them? Tried 4chan?

In all seriousness, reddit has been declining for years, and I've yet to find anything that scratches the same itch.

bil7··on Ask HN: How many of you are open to Piracy again?
yup, qbittorrent search tab never fails me
bil7··on When are we going to see an AI watching movies and reviewing them?
possible right now. Training data is film transcript + online reviews. 1000s if not 10000s of reviews available per film. Plug novel transcript into model, spit out review predictions!
bil7··on Ask HN: How might HN build a social network together?
I think what would really be great is a social media site that doesn't offer direct image or video hosting. A bit like how reddit used to be. You just have link aggregation, voting, and comments. That's it. Maybe in a nice, clean, minimal UI as well. This would lend itself to tech folk I think. If only it existed.
bil7··on Tell HN: DuckDuckGo now has anoying popup
the extension is actually really good - enables you to use the !bang syntax
bil7··on Hijacking infrared to make a dumb device smart
you can still find some dumb displays if you search for "monitors" rather than "tvs".
bil7··on Ask HN: Hobby coding that doesn’t feel like work
usually i make silly little games like tetris, 2048, cgol, or attempt simple leetcode challenges, or build userscripts to automate web tediums. To me it feels like solving a sudoku (fun) rather than studying for a math exam (boring). But the real secret sauce to fun programming is to build your own ideas. You might think of an old game you've played, and wonder, can I build that? Yes you can.
bil7··on A self-generating story that gets longer the more stars it gets
i had a glimmer in my eye and a sparkle of hope reading the readme; it fizzled out with no supernova upon reading the story.
bil7··on Minecraft Running on Asahi Linux with Open Source GPU Drivers
absolutely insane development pace. Congrats to the asahi team
bil7··on Warren Buffet and Charlie Munger on crypto in 2018

bil7··on Disney+ demands users’ age and gender so it can “deliver targeted advertising”
it really is an amazing show. I hope it does very well. However I can forsee two groups; the first, who won't watch because "it's star wars and i'm not into star wars"; the second, "i like star wars but this show doesn't have any light sabers or jedis or the force - why would i watch it?? boring!"
bil7··on Chess, but moves are simultaneous
sooo cool, gg, guy i played. I really thought i had it lol.
bil7··on Make your DOM look like an eye that can focus on anything
"i made something similar, except it shares almost no similarities"
bil7··on Show HN: Generate quiz questions using AI
this is actually amazing! no sign up, just an awesome, powerful, useful, application of AI.
bil7··on Show HN: Mini Metroidvania in 13KB of JavaScript
best speedrun: 8:46, 3 deaths
bil7··on Show HN: Mini Metroidvania in 13KB of JavaScript

bones: 499

time: 59.15

took a few short breaks

bil7··on The Follower: Using open cameras and AI to find how an Instagram photo is taken
capturing a vibe can be very lucrative if you have the follower count. Authenticity doesn't matter if your post still gets likes and shares.
bil7··on San Francisco decriminalizes psychedelics
While I am also in complete favour, stating that there are no negative health effects is somewhat false. Abusing any kind of psychedelic can lead to HPPD [1], a very real long term disorder.

bil7··on Ask HN: How do you get better at debugging/finding a solution?
the truth is you probably overcome many blockers a day that would stump others. It's ok to rely on others/the internet. I'm never ever mad when someone asks me for help, unless it's the same question they've asked 5 times already.
bil7··on An extrasolar world covered in water?
I'm pretty sure what you're describing is the hard problem of consciousness.
bil7··on An extrasolar world covered in water?
I've had vivid dreams where I was completely convinced I was in reality. Continuity was maintained well enough to fool me. How could I know I wasn't in a dream? How can I truly know beyond doubt that I am not in a dream?
bil7··on Ask HN: What should I do next for my career?
to help assist your dota quitting you could start by uninstalling the game and getting your fix watching pro dota streams instead. All of the fun with none of the toxic teammates
bil7··on Handpicked No-Signup Tools
the FOSS community might disagree with this statement
bil7··on A little exercise each day improves muscles more than one big weekly workout
that's standard pomodoro timings which are globally popular
