bihnkim··on Features lost across versions of macOS
can confirm it exists on my mbp running 14.2.1
bihnkim··on Ask HN: How are you taking care of you eyes?
I have felt this. I also think the increase in SUVs and SUV-like cars is raising the average height of these headlamps, causing more light to hit me in my lowered sedan.
bihnkim··on React Concurrent Mode
> They're not really diverging from a view layer, just thinking at a higher level about how a view is engineered and how to provide primitives and abstractions that make it easy to build a good, complete UX (not just layout).

Thank you for this eloquent wording, you've saved me a lot of time and energy in my responses to people who don't get this point.

bihnkim··on Uber lays off 435 people
Interestingly, your comment reminded me that I wanted to look into Mattermost and they have the Uber logo listed on their front page...
bihnkim··on I Charged $18k for a Static HTML Page
This is a fantastic quote
bihnkim··on My Life After a Heart Attack at 38
I've heard a 911 dispatcher say take aspirin if you can
bihnkim··on Marie Kondo, Fast Fashion, and the Thrift-Store Boom
It started with a New York Times best-selling book a handful of years back, though.
bihnkim··on SF is so expensive that waiters can no longer afford to live in the city
The State of California has the same minimum wage for both tipped and non-tipped jobs.
bihnkim··on Samsung used my DSLR photo to fake their phone’s “portrait mode”
I can sell anything, you know? You know how many times I fake on the streets? You know? You have to fake. The guys that don't fake, they're the ones that get it the worst.
bihnkim··on Ask HN: Have you ever regretted working on a product?
If people are going to go to fight until one side is wiped out, minimizing attrition and ending the war more quickly and convincingly may be seen as a measure to minimize casualty.

This is not necessarily my personal view, but one way logic could be applied to this statement.

bihnkim··on Interface Hall of Shame – QuickTime 4.0 Player (1999)
Are you sure about that? On my Mac, the full-screen overlay shows both skip and scan arrows. The windowed version normally shows just the scan arrows. You can select an option to reveal the skip arrows when windowed. In none of the scenarios do the skip/scan arrows ever change function.
bihnkim··on More Americans report near-constant cannabis use
then that's a pretty ironic username for ya!
bihnkim··on Removing jQuery from GitHub.com frontend
> frees dev cycles to focus on performance

Perhaps this is the case--jQuery saved them so much time that they've reached a point where they are free to optimize their frontend by removing jQuery.

bihnkim··on Oxford Comma Dispute Is Settled as Maine Drivers Get $5M
In that case you didn't paraphrase the quote so much as repurpose it.
bihnkim··on What Does Redux Do? (and when should you use it?)
For anyone who has read this post, I highly recommend you read through the comments--in my opinion the author has missed the point of Redux completely (at the time I am writing this reply), and there's a key thread in the comments section that tries to set things straight.
bihnkim··on Japanese addresses: No street names. Block numbers
You bring up an interesting comparison--it's the opposite of western chess vs. eastern go--chess pieces rest on square spaces, while go pieces rest on intersecting lines.
bihnkim··on Japanese addresses: No street names. Block numbers
Last I checked Korea is migrating to a system that resembles American addresses, but both systems are currently valid.
