Look to the commercialization in US states like Colorado as a better (but not perfect) model.
Didn't end up overwhelming hospitals, in fact everyone was constantly warned about overwhelming hospitals but it just didn't happen. A boggeyman used to scare and people.
This is not how it works.
The US measures unemployment using levels, the 10-15% are U-3, which only counts people without jobs who are in the labor force. To remain in the labor force, they must have looked for a job in the last four weeks.
The U-6, or real unemployment rate, includes the underemployed, the marginally attached, and discouraged workers and is at 25%.
There are plenty of deeper explanations online but basically politicians love to talk about U-3 but the true unemployment is U-6.
Enough with the blanket statements, Sure bill gates is ok but just yesterday the front page had a story of the Sackler family and how they amassed billions by pumping the united states with opiates. They literally killed thousands and ruined the lives of millions, while destroying American society. Billionaries are people, some evil some good.
Also, the point of a government is to provide for it's citizens (with taxes) not to hope that in a 100years we can settle on other planets. And btw, in that scenario we would not be the ones who end up on Elysium. As much as SV programmers like to think they can be part the billionaire class you are not and will never be an oligarch.

There is no doubt they are using some bigco vpn or other software that can/will eventually be compromised.
I actually think they have a good approach. Rewarding major finds with good payouts and avoiding the flood of info and low level web app ‘bugs’.
Well during the 2012 Aurora movie theater shooting the guy used homemade tear gas before killing 12 and shooting another 60. But you're right he didn't lock the doors. The 2016 Pulse shooter did lock the doors and killed 50 and shot an additional 50. So it's not as far fetched as you make it sound.
Pretty free to grow and work on what you like. Amazing work life balance, IMO.
Downtown is great if you want a true urban feel and don't mind the homeless. I found a deal on rent but was looking heavily at Macarther park to Koreatown area.
I've heard parts of Hollywood are good and pretty well connected on transit lines but didn't really explore.
I used to live in Austin but after getting a remote job I moved to LA. I get to live in an amazing, walkable neighborhood and rarely deal with the notorious LA commuting nightmare.
He likes the coworking space because he is lonely and want's a social aspect in his office space.
The hardware is shit. I've had to send it to service 3 times in the nearly 3 years I've been working with it. I just put in a new up arrow key last week because the last one broke. In it's current state only one USB port is functional.
Granted I'm a consultant and do heavily traveling but it has never happened to any of my colleagues Macs. Once it was in service for week because the wifi card was disconnected. Don't even get me started about running linux on it, not a nice experience.
Getting home and using my mac is such an upgrade, OS and hardware wise. Only thing I really miss is the red track button in the middle of the keyboard, that is a phenomenal feature!
Personally, I dislike the nightlife. The entertainment districts are all about dive or patio bars with a band playing. Not many proper hip hop or edm spots.
There is not much diversity.
The main vibes are hippie austin slacker, tx country guy, college student, or tech bro. Which I do not like.
Considering a move to LA.
The vast majority are NOT making six figures. The work is hard, has long hours, and is physically exhausting. My grandpa was a welder/machine shop owner my uncle is a electrician. They would trade anything for a cushy desk job with great pay, great benefits and easy workload. I've never worked past 4pm and have ample paid vacation time. They will never be able to say that. Google says that here in Austin TX, the average master plumber makes $25 an hr. HVAC is the highest at $44 an hour on average. And we are going through a construction boom, also don't forget that you have to factor working in 100 degree heat and 50% humidity 5 months out of the year.
Sure you can start a business and eventually have 5 workers and 3 trucks like my grandpa but then you become a entrepreneur and have to deal with the whole billing, scheduling, selling, headaches of running a small business.
I find a lot of tech people idolize the blue collar fields. It's damn hard work.
Search youtube for the video where cartels attack the police headquarters and hotel where they were staying.
I'm 28 and only a few of my friends are heavy users but most people younger than me have accounts. I've met several girls who are weirded out that I don't have a snap.
Python API for Django APP
Hello, I’m building a small marketplace and am looking for some help building an internal API server to handle my transactions and escrow process.
My side project can best be described as localbitcoins.com for multiple cryptocurrencies. By day I am a C dev and managed to build out a basic marketplace. But I need help architecting and writing the transaction and escrow engine.
My MVP currently calls a Flask REST server which is querying RPC endpoints for my data. I’d like a more stable, scalable solution integrated into my app. I can write and maintain code, I’m just having trouble connecting all the web components together elegantly. I’m thinking an experienced dev can implement a decent solution in about 10-15 days’ worth of time. I’m flexible on delivery and don’t mind you working on this part time. My budget is $8-10k.
Even if you have no direct experience with cryptocurrencies if you have any experience with building RPC based services this should be simple. I have a bunch more info to share if you are interested!
Thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you all.
