big-and-small··on We have a year to fix security everywhere
> And a big fuck you to DeAlignAI, Z.ai, and everyone else who's been participating in this race to the bottom.

Yeah of course. Only billionare US overlords allowed to have access to security research tools.

big-and-small··on We have a year to fix security everywhere
You can rent B300 at hourly rate and run whatever model you want.
big-and-small··on We have a year to fix security everywhere
I guess you mean M3 ultra since M4 ultra never existed.
big-and-small··on Kimi K3: Open Frontier Intelligence
My point stands: if China was "against" Ukraine they wouldn't sell to Ukraine because a lot of drone manufacturing depends on Chinese components.

Of course China does not support Ukraine politically, but that's a different story.

  > Energy is not the main reason. China would still stand with Russia without energy.
Of course it will because Russia also has cheap raw materials not just exclusively oil and gas. At the same time China does not invest into Russian economy because they don't want competition.

Weak Russia is more beneficial for China to buy commodities for cheap and then sell Chinese products back.

  > China could never support a pro-Western Ukraine in the first place.
China is one of largest Ukraine trade partners before and during the war. Ukraine even lobbied for ability to buy Chinese drone parts using EU funds when EU unable to fulfill.

So nope - China dont care. They are trading with both Russia and Ukraine.

big-and-small··on U.S. government will decide who gets to use GPT-5.6
They already helped Russia, gave more power and planning to unfreeze assets of Iran. Helping China achieve AI dominance is a logical next step.
big-and-small··on DeepSeek-V4-Flash means LLM steering is interesting again
DeepSeek in general release not a very censored models when you run them locally. E.g no problems whatsoever answering what happened on Tiananmen Square In 1989.
big-and-small··on Asahi Linux Progress Linux 7.0
You cant imagine how much strain fast-moving mouse cursor put on display server of almost any OS if there a lot of windows open simultaneously. Also non-standard cursor sizes / formats are still such a mess everywhere since even in 2026 there are semi-hardware and software cursors...
big-and-small··on Framework Laptop 13 Pro: Major Upgrades and Linux Front and Center
Macbooks were not overpriced since M1 Air released in 2020. Of course Apple was not competing in low-end segment back then, but $1200-$1400 M1 just outperformed all the competitors for years. Now with Neo release they basically outplayed everyone in low-end segment.

Framework offer is completely different - they sell you upgradable computer that supports your right to repair.

big-and-small··on DeepSeek v4
This is quite obviously because China have strict regulations and censorship of social media and US doesnt. YouTube Shorts and Instagram is full of the same garbage in US.
big-and-small··on Claude Code Opus 4.7 keeps checking on malware
Might be it for scrapping content for training an LLM? Oh no only big tech allowed to do it...
big-and-small··on Claude Code Opus 4.7 keeps checking on malware
Google AI studio and Gemini APIs are the least censored SOTA models.
big-and-small··on Hyperscalers have already outspent most famous US megaprojects
China is working on this.
big-and-small··on Cloudflare Email Service
Spamhaus itself is a shady and non transparent organization and basically one of reasons why its been so hard to actually run email service for decades.

Cloudflare is not perfect, but at least it been consistent about not becoming censorship service with very few exceptions where they banned something.

Id rather let criminals freely buy and use kitchen knives than let shady organizations control who is allowed to buy one.

big-and-small··on US Bill Mandates On-Device Age Verification
And there obviously gonna be market for "verified" devices. Not like there is anything at all that could stop people of any ages looking at porn.
big-and-small··on Kindle to end store downloads and registering for 1st-5th gen kindles in May
How do you imagine DRM can possibly protect text?
big-and-small··on Epic Games to cut more than 1k jobs as Fortnite usage falls
> To me, Epic Games were clearly trying to "pull a Valve" and capture the platform magic that allows Valve and other platforms like Roblox to be sustainably profitable.

Valve have headcount of under 400 people. Obviously they have contractors working creating assets for CS / Data / etc, but company itself is swift and agile.

Epic was around 1000 people at Fortnite release then grown to over 4000.

big-and-small··on Iran launched unsuccessful attack on UK's Diego Garcia
Europe to do what to stop the war? EU cant even stop war on their own borders. And we seen what Trump buddies think about EU in their leaked Signal chat.

Also it's not like EU and UK actually have any military capacity to bomb Iran even if they wanted because again everything they do have is going to Ukraine already.

big-and-small··on Iran launched unsuccessful attack on UK's Diego Garcia
Except it would be very weird goal to achieve because it's only give more reasons to bomb whole country into oblivion and justify deployment of ground troops.
big-and-small··on Nanny state discovers Linux, demands it check kids' IDs before booting
Next step after age verification through ID will be making sharing of computer with others illegal. And Right to Read was already written back in 1997:

big-and-small··on MacBook Neo
Dont bother. Even when works iPhone mirroring is unreliable and buggy experience, often asks to unlock iPhone again and sync gets broken at random and you have to go over enabling it again even though phone was next to the Mac mini all the time.

One of the worst supported features Apple has shipped. Idea was good though.

big-and-small··on OpenClaw surpasses React to become the most-starred software project on GitHub
> Instead of being a problem solver you start to become a problem hunter, and you invent them in order to solve them

Generic problem of any Linux newbie. You get good at solving problems and it's so enjoyable so you end up creating more of them.

big-and-small··on The United States and Israel have launched a major attack on Iran
Joke? Or someone really dont know it's his account?
big-and-small··on You Want to Visit the UK? You Better Have a Google Play or App Store Account
Hey. I will ask how exactly it was solved and try to reply here in a day or two. My relative is woman so problem was that she had her original name in a passport from country of origin and UK passport had her name after marriage.
big-and-small··on You Want to Visit the UK? You Better Have a Google Play or App Store Account
While this is a real problem and I do have relative who had this issue like this there are ways to get new UK passport without paying £600 or changing legal name in other country.

It's just take digging in government rules and arguing. As long as it's not the first UK passport it's doable.

big-and-small··on Google API keys weren't secrets, but then Gemini changed the rules
> Or are the capabilities of Gemini and AI systems in general being oversold?

I pretty much sure that if anyone asked Gemini "Is it good idea to retroactively opt-in new services into for old API keys?" it would suggest it's bad idea. Problem is that no one asked.

big-and-small··on The Age Verification Trap: Verifying age undermines everyone's data protection
> A government could implement the equivalent of China's great firewall. Even if it doesn't stop everyone, it would stop most people.

Porn is not just political information about human right abuses, government overreach or heavily censored overview of concentration camps for "group X". People can live just fine with government censorship buying into any kind of propaganda.

Kids would find a way to access porn though. Whatever it VPNs, tor or USB stick black market. Government cant even win war on drugs and you expect them to successfully ban porn. What a joke.

big-and-small··on Dead Internet Theory
It's fairly easy to "farm" real ID NFC data since majority of documents are not intended to be actual digital signing key. And on top of that AI is getting pretty good at generating face / video details to the point where simple biometric data verification is also quite useless.
big-and-small··on A decentralized peer-to-peer messaging application that operates over Bluetooth
Apple just gonna disable it for China like any other privacy feature.
big-and-small··on The Myth of the ThinkPad
> Macbook

For most of their history Macbooks were good looking, but overheating and throttling devices with some specifically unlucky generations being pure garbage due to design problems like butterfly keyboard and flexgate. Apple also have a long history of not admitting these design flaws.

Macbooks only became a really good option in last 5 years after switch to ARM and overall industry degradation towards not upgradable and not repairable hardware.

Also even though more than decade under Lenovo thinkapds became much more fragile, but they are still much better suited to survive water, dust and physical damage. This doesn't matter if you work in comfy home, cafe, office or co-working, but there are many people who have to use their laptops in moist or dusty environments.

PS: Written from M1 Air that I bought back in 2020.
