biermic··on Ask HN: My boss doesn't think I'm doing good work, how to proceed?
Doesn't have time for junior dev, because has so much own work. Then hangs on hackernews :D
biermic··on Ask HN: Does anybody in America surf the web in Spanish?
According to my logs there are quite a lot users from the US having set Spanish as their default language.
biermic··on Notes on streaming large API responses
That's a fair point. I'll switch over to region specific! Thanks for putting me in that direction.

And no - haven't contacted support so far. Will assign someone from my team to get in touch with them.

biermic··on Notes on streaming large API responses
Just happened again last week. What's even worse the location from where we tried to access the file also had impact. Like we were able to reproduce the issue from one location, but not from another.
biermic··on Notes on streaming large API responses
It sometimes takes minutes for the file to become available. Meanwhile we get a 401 unauthorized. Even though we have something in place like that:

  def is_file_uploaded(file_name, request_id):
      for i in range(S3_UPLOAD_ATTEMPTS_COUNT):
          try:
              s3.Object(BUCKET, file_name).load()
              return True
          except botocore.exceptions.ClientError as e:
              logger.warning('File still not uploaded to S3.
  Check - {}/{} (request_id - {})'.format(
                  i+1, S3_UPLOAD_ATTEMPTS_COUNT, request_id
              ))
      return False
biermic··on Notes on streaming large API responses
Nope it doesn't :(

Just ran into the problem again last week. Even though we verify the files availability using the boto3 client...
biermic··on Notes on streaming large API responses
I followed the exporting to S3 approach. Unfortunately it takes a while until those files become available, even though the AWS API says they are. We had many issues with this approach in the past. Better host the response yourself....
biermic··on Sorry, we replaced that old technology, “see-through glass”
So I just hit up Amazon and found this: https://www.amazon.com/Revolution-Cooking-R180-High-Speed-St...

Not sure if we have to wait until 2050

biermic··on Ask HN: How to scale or rearchitect a single portal site to a multi-tenant SaaS
You'd create a table that holds the different tenants. Then add a association between users and tenants. Store the tenant in the authenticated users session.

Then you could attach the tenant specific configuration to the session too, or better keep it in an in-memory cache.

biermic··on Update on an Employee Matter
Independent from the events: The way Github employees communicate with each other makes me kind of uncomfortable.

In the companies I've worked here in Europe, such discussions just would not happen in a cooperate chat room.

biermic··on Ask HN: Best Development Laptop?
I bought my T440s for like $900 six years ago. Still going strong. It's been my fifth Thinkpad so far. Would go with T series again.
biermic··on Ask HN: What are you doing this weekend?
The work I didn't get to do this week, because my customers asked for so much support. The price of being freelance.

Enjoy your weekend everyone!

biermic··on Tampa teen accused of being ‘mastermind’ behind Twitter hack
Does this mean the US visitors data is not protected? Or no resources to add a cookie banner?
biermic··on Cloudflare was down
We operate that site and are using Cloudflare to prevent DDOS attacks. Probably some sort of hash collision...
biermic··on Ask HN: Startup CTO using big Twitter following to harass me, what should I do?
How old are you?
biermic··on Ask HN: Startup CTO using big Twitter following to harass me, what should I do?
You might not like to hear that, but as an outsider it seems like you are trying to harass DHH for personal reasons.

But also his reactions were slightly too emotional and unprofessional, why I've unfollowed him on Twitter as a consequence.

biermic··on Ask HN: How do you RSS?
Newsboat (a currently maintained fork of Newsbeuter). It's a wonderful easy to use commandline RSS reader.

biermic··on Ask HN: How did/do you promote your side project?
This is a recent list of promotion opportunities: https://postyourstartup.com

Good luck!

biermic··on Ask HN: Do SaaS founders know SQL? My app will fail, if the majority Dont
Don't panic. You might find the video linked below from Patrick Campbell interesting. He talks about constantly freaking out as founder, and getting the awareness to overcome this.

biermic··on Ask HN: Are there any remote companies that pays SF rates worldwide remote?
I'd focus more on providing enough value to justify a SF like salary. Just trying to find a company that will throw money at you while you sit in a LOC area will be tough. Companies are not stupid, and you are competing with the whole world. There will always be someone who can do the job for a cheaper price. So figure out what value you provide, that justifies inflated rates. Another approach is not to be an employee, but a business. But that's not as comfortable.
biermic··on OpenChakra is an open-source visual editor for React
I'm having trouble understanding for whom this is is built. Obviously not for me, but what's the problem that editor is solving?

biermic··on Ask HN: How do I understand the results of my job search?
Working from the other end with recruiters, I cannot confirm this. It feels to me, the recruiter I'm working with respects both parties and really tries to find a great fit.

All of the applicants he brought were better, than the ones that applied via an online job portal. Even tough some ask 20%-40% over our budget, we are still considering them.
