bhiggins··on National Opt-Out Day Called Against Invasive Body Scanners
John Pistole should man up, show some leadership, and release his bodyscan to the public to demonstrate through actions not words how these scanners aren't a big deal. John: we're waiting for the pics.
bhiggins··on Yep, Facebook Takes Control Of Fb.com Ahead Of Mail Launch
OMG HOW EXCITING!!!11111111
bhiggins··on What can you do with a second Ethernet port?
yup. another handy tool is ngrep: http://ngrep.sourceforge.net/

for app-level protocol stats and/or high-end situations i'd attach an extrahop product: http://www.extrahop.com/products/

bhiggins··on Are Canadian Universities 'Too Asian'?
no, these people just feel so entitled that they want to be able to party party party AND feel (not actually be) well-educated. anyone who works harder than them and learns more is threatening to this feeling.
bhiggins··on With help from MIT, Akamai sues competitor
Akamai needs to wake up and realize that their technology hasn't been a big differentiator for a few years now and change their pricing to reflect that.
bhiggins··on Help me start a FOSS Tithing movement
you wanna use the word tithe then you're going to be brining in a lot of connotation baggage. not a fan.
bhiggins··on Node.JS and Joyent Agreement
php sucks
bhiggins··on Node.JS and Joyent Agreement
why would anyone want to be the next php?

bhiggins··on Half of Milgram’s subjects told him to take a hike
it's too bad nobody neutralized the authority figure and liberated the prisoner.
bhiggins··on Reverse.jar
the only struggle with scheme is with falling asleep
bhiggins··on Reverse.jar
maybe next year, if you keep up the good work, you'll be reading about Appeal to Some Website.
bhiggins··on Reverse.jar
I am mostly doing programming in languages with GC, which in this case is fine because it's OK for it to go, you know, kind of slow.
bhiggins··on Reverse.jar
Your argument is so compelling. Now I see how wrong I've been. I'll just accept everything the ivory tower says from now on, on any topic, unconditionally. Brilliant.
bhiggins··on RockMelt
maybe they can get together with kiha and combine their pointless efforts.
bhiggins··on Reverse.jar
I'm impressed with lambda calculus as a mathematical formalisms and its equivalence with TMs, and I am impressed but not overly enamored with homoiconicity & metaprogramming/macros. I like conditionals. Not a fan of marketing minimal syntax but having special forms. Not a fan of cons as a a building block for everything. Not a big believer in garbage collection. And certainly not a believer that Lisp is a practical programming language for much of anything these days.

But don't let me stop you from caaaaadring away!

bhiggins··on RockMelt Unveils a Web Browser for the Facebook Era
almost as underwhelming as what it turns out kiha is doing
bhiggins··on Reverse.jar
You know, a lot of non-academic languages are pretty crappy... like Ruby, or PHP. But I'm not impressed with languages out of academia either. I don't care about your -morphisms or fancy type systems...
bhiggins··on Ballmer sells 20% of his MSFT holdings
it screams QE2 to me
bhiggins··on Zed Shaw, LPTHW, & Learn You An Ruby
these "Learn You..." (NB: this does not include LPTHW) books seem like a post-modern version of the "For Dummies" series. So, if you enjoyed the vapid "For Dummies"-style jokes but wanted more non-sequiturs, these are the books for you.
bhiggins··on Startup Quote: Thomas Edison, co-founder, General Electric
so I guess Edison would prefer the Slap Chop over the LHC. superb.
bhiggins··on Steve Ballmer sells about $1.3 billion in shares of Microsoft
this is a good time given the boost that QE2 has given the stock market.
bhiggins··on PDF goodness in Chrome
It's faster to load PDFs than anything I've ever used previously. Thanks Google & Foxit.
bhiggins··on Goodbye, Chrome (How Chrome got me banned from hacker news)
the lesson here is to disable flash
bhiggins··on Peter Thiel: I’m Really Not Crazy; I Just Want to Help Some Kids
Ideally, kids should drop out of college because they found something better to do with their time, not the other way around.
bhiggins··on Google's $8.5 million Buzz settlement a go
here is what I sent Google in response:

I love Gmail. I've loved it since the beginning when I got an invite code from [redacted] and I think it has just gotten better and better over the years. But, I am disappointed that you didn't commit to being more careful with how you handle privacy leaks with new products. Either make a commitment that you won't intentionally do something like this again, or admit that your plan is to "educate" people about auto-added privacy-violating products that ride on Gmail's coattails. If you plan on going the latter route, please let me know so I can switch to a different email provider now.

bhiggins··on Superstitious Beliefs Getting More Common
Reminds me of how Peter Thiel thinks dropping out of college will bring you great startup success.
bhiggins··on Higher intelligence associated with "thinking like an economist"
strange, I find many economists dogmatic and heartless.
bhiggins··on Why leave Google to join Facebook?
the people that are leaving google to join facebook are doing it mainly for the same reason they joined google in the first place: status.
