bhhaskin··on Apple is tightening macOS 'Full Disk Access' due to new risks from AI agents
See that's the thing. They will likely limit other LLMs but leave their own access level.
bhhaskin··on Building a certificate authority for the whole Internet
Except they protect the same people running DDoS services...
bhhaskin··on More than 100k people in Japan are now aged 100 or older
Japan is quite a bit different in that regard since they have family registries. Their issue tends to be death records.
bhhaskin··on AI Robots – When will they be in our homes
Don't even need compute onboard, just on site. And something I control and own.
bhhaskin··on Nitter and XCancel resume service after legal advice
Except this is settled case law. LinkedIn tried and lost against scrapers.
bhhaskin··on 120 days until Google restricts side-loading, declaring war on Android freedom
The war has already been declared. It's just another battle.
bhhaskin··on Using Cloudflare Workers and reCAPTCHA v3 for a Static Site Contact Form
If I hit something like that I am just gonna close the tab and move on with my day.

If it's something really important then I am going to very loudly complain to their support until I can bypass it.

bhhaskin··on Old.reddit.com no longer works for logged out users
It's like just the old reddit accounts that use it, and they just don't care about us anymore. It's all about that ad money and tracking.
bhhaskin··on Old.reddit.com no longer works for logged out users
It's simple, if I can't access old.reddit without a login, then I don't access reddit at all.

My money is it won't be long before old reddit is deprecated altogether.

bhhaskin··on CarPlay Is Additive
its likely not the metadata, since they already have access and sell that, but then they can sell ads on maps like Google does.
bhhaskin··on Why Switzerland has 25 gbit internet and America doesn't
That's great for Utah, but most other places in the US don't have a system like that and are stuck with one maybe two ISPs.
bhhaskin··on CarPlay Is Additive
It's not that the market is moving away, but more like car companies realized if they want to sell monthly subscriptions in the future, they need to own the software.
bhhaskin··on UK to require ID or face scan before you can make social media accounts
They are quoting the book/movie the circle.
bhhaskin··on UK to require ID or face scan before you can make social media accounts
I agree. I think the only reason it hasn't happened yet is they didn't really have away to do anything with the data. But now with AI they can process it into reports pretty easily at scale. That is what all of these data centers going up is really about.
bhhaskin··on Let's Encrypt bans certificate usage in any US sanctioned territory [pdf]
It could also be an easy way to not have to implement backdoors for the government/military.
bhhaskin··on Let's Buy Spirit Air
Sounds like someone is selling securities without a license tbh.
bhhaskin··on Claude Code to be removed from Anthropic's Pro plan?
Not yet, but it's only a matter of time. Local AI doesn't need to be bleeding edge either. Even capabilities of older modals would be fine.
bhhaskin··on Claude Code to be removed from Anthropic's Pro plan?
And this is why local AI is going to be the future.
bhhaskin··on EmDash – A spiritual successor to WordPress that solves plugin security
This is the way. WordPress's is so popular because you can get it to do or be anything. I have done some terrible terrible things to WordPress. Need a simple blog? No problem! Want a LMS? Sure why not! e-commerce? Go for it! CRM? Absolutely! Etc etc.

But there are many many "WordPress" developers out there that only know how to glue plugins together, so you often end up with plugin soup.

In the hands of someone who actually knows how to code you don't have any issues.

bhhaskin··on Windows 11's Start menu was built using React – now switching to native WinUI
My best guess is ads.
bhhaskin··on Google details new 24-hour process to sideload unverified Android apps
Don't do instant non-reversible transfers. Specially for a transaction that is highly likely to be fraud. I.e. person transfers to someone you haven't done business with before or foreign accounts. Also the fraud detection needs to go both ways.
bhhaskin··on Google details new 24-hour process to sideload unverified Android apps
Why is it on Google to stop this and not the banks?
bhhaskin··on NASA targets Artemis II crewed moon mission for April 1 launch
Fly-by
bhhaskin··on NASA's DART spacecraft changed an asteroid's orbit around the sun
The technology doesn't exist and it would be a huge waste of money.

How heavy would a telephone pole sized tungsten rod be?

What happens when China, Russia, India or Pakistan find out you are building this (cause you can't hide it if it's in near earth orbit)? They would either knock it out of the sky or hit you with everything they have. We would do the exact same if anyone else was developing such a weapon.

bhhaskin··on Don't post generated/AI-edited comments. HN is for conversation between humans.
Nah they are pretty good a banning users that don't follow the guidelines.
bhhaskin··on Claude helped select targets for Iran strikes, possibly including school
What I can't understand is why? Let's ignore the moral question for a second. I can't imagine an LLM is the right tool for this at all.
bhhaskin··on A GitHub Issue Title Compromised 4k Developer Machines
No way to actually enforce that. It would be an honor system.
bhhaskin··on California's Digital Age Assurance Act, and FOSS
thats-the-joke-meme.jpg
bhhaskin··on Homeland Security Spying on Reddit Users
They are spying on all of us. Not just Reddit users.
bhhaskin··on xAI joins SpaceX
Let's call it for what it is, a payday for Elon. Paper billionaires have figured out they cannot cash out with out tanking their paper, so now you have these circular deals to extract as much as possible. If we had a functioning government they would step in and put an immediate stop to this on national security grounds.
