This is interesting. Where did you see that?

bguebert··on 890M-year-old sponge fossil may be the earliest animal yet found
Carbon dating is only supposed to be accurate to about 40,000 years ago. They must be using some other method to date it, but I didn't see in the article where they say what method was used.

bguebert··on Ask HN: Favorite alternative to fizzbuzz for a quick test?
I usually go to the Euler project and copy one of their questions. Then I modify the input to try and avoid them copy-pasting the question to find the answer.

Its not really new. They had versions of these since the 1950s. They didn't sell very well though and never made it to mass production. Maybe this one will catch on.

bguebert··on Introduction to Dwebsites (2020)
>Plenty of service providers to choose from.

It's important to be very careful to avoid vendor lock in to keep the option to switch. Parler made that mistake and when Amazon dropped them they had a hard time moving. Providers are constantly trying to lock you in to their particular services.

bguebert··on Atomic Gardening
I kinda remember reading an article about someone in England that was doing this with tomatoes and potatoes. They do it with a graft though instead of genetic modification.

bguebert··on Pentagon UFO Videos Not Aliens
>If it flies like a duck, is the size of a duck, and quacks like a duck . . . it probably isn’t an alien spaceship or ultra-advanced drone from a foreign power. But headlines such as “U.S. Navy Pilot Spots UFO” generate more clicks than “Pilot Sees Goose on Infrared Camera.”

I was really hoping they were hiding aliens though.

bguebert··on Security keys are now supported for SSH Git operations
I think by "security key" they are talking about working with yubikey instead of the regular public/private ssh keys. I don't know much about yubikey, but it sounds like it is a usb drive for storing you ssh private keys with some software for managing them. They must be promoting yubikey.
bguebert··on Tesla Autopilot ‘easily’ tricked into working without anyone in the driver seat
For my car, you can turn on the ignition and buckle/unbuckle the drivers belt 3 times in a row. Doing that turns off the constant alarm and only chimes when you first start and shows the light on the panel. Maybe your car has something similar.
