bgoldste··on Get the Funk Out
Wishing you the best as well. So sorry to hear about your sister. I'm also around if you want to chat. This stuff is not easy.
bgoldste··on Get the Funk Out
This is hilarious!
bgoldste··on Get the Funk Out
Inspiration for the post!
bgoldste··on Get the Funk Out
"Wherever you go, there you are."

Also thought I could get away from myself by getting away, and at times it helped a bit, but also often didn't. Sounds like you're on the path to feeling better. Less ego for the win.

bgoldste··on Get the Funk Out
Author here. So sorry to hear about your depression and medication trials (ugh, the side effects..), though I'm heartened by the sentiment that you "inevitably DO get out of it. Fortunately these things are usually temporary, however long that temporary might be.

I hadn't consider that my own moving around in my early twenties was a way to try and 'break out' of the cycle until you posted this.

Wishing you and your family the best in the new year!

bgoldste··on Get the Funk Out
Author here, can't believe I missed these. Strawberry Letter 23 is one of my favorite songs. Post has been updated to include these gems. Thank you!

bgoldste··on Show HN: Wunderbar – Learn language while working on your Mac
One of the most helpful, semi-passive things I did for learning Spanish was changing the language on my phone (once I got to a certain level). It makes all daily phone time at least a superficial way of getting in contact with the language.

Yes there was plenty of difficulty navigating the phone at first, but I was surprised at how much muscle memory took over. And it helped me develop my very cheesy joke / deflection to buy time to formulate my response: está cargando (it’s loading).

bgoldste··on Vercel: Improved Infrastructure Pricing
Predicting a higher monthly price for us - doesn’t feel like an improvement from this current customer’s perspective.
bgoldste··on Broad Outages on Render.com
Woke up to an email that our server was down which is very unusual.
bgoldste··on Louise Glück has died
Night song is my favorite
bgoldste··on Ask HN: Anyone Using MacBook Air M2 24GB for Developement?
Not a direct answer to your question, but I recently upgraded from a 2019 Intel MacBook Pro to an M1 MacBook Pro which I got a good deal on - 2k for a 16 inch w the max chip, 64gb ram, and a 1tb hdd.

I looked at the new air, drooled over it really, but when I found this deal I couldn’t justify spending about the same to get a fraction of the power.

When I bought the last intel mbp, i actually initially bought an m1, but at the time it was too tough to set things up. This was mid 2021. This time around it was a lot easier, though my stack might be a tad simpler these days.

Only 2 weeks in but I’m really loving this thing so far. Might be worth checking for some deals on m1 models if you can find them, I think there are still some new models circulating, though from what I saw of the airs it was mostly 8gb ram.

bgoldste··on Looking back on SaaS product strategy
This is terrific. I loved the presentation of trying different approaches successively, and I think you nail the nuance of several early product stages that often get rolled together.
bgoldste··on How I stay motivated as a solo creator
Hard earned and useful wisdom here, thanks for sharing.
bgoldste··on Show HN: An app store just for installable web apps
Asking the important questions.
bgoldste··on Ask / Tell HN: Issues with Vercel Deployments
Seems to be resolved now.
bgoldste··on Ask / Tell HN: Issues with Vercel Deployments
Vercel Status is showing issues with" function executions that are causing an infinite loading issue for a portion of our customers"... but I'm having issues with builds never getting started, remaining queued indefinitely. Anyone else? Think I saw some CF issues earlier today as well.
bgoldste··on You Can Pilot Your Own Transformable Mecha Suit for a Cool $3M
I’ll be expensing one.
bgoldste··on 'Couple,' 'Few,' and 'Several'
This is exactly how I use them.
bgoldste··on We use TypeScript not based on preference, but because we want to make money
promotedContemtId is a hilarious typo. Nice post.
bgoldste··on Show HN: Modular Diffusion – A modular Python library for diffusion models
Nifty! Look forward to checking this out. What kind of hardware do you roughly need to run this, though I’m guessing there’s a range depending on what you’re doing?
bgoldste··on Ask HN: What are some good landing page builders for an MVP?
Classic shameless HN plug, but I’m working on Pagesake.com which is great for this use case IMO.

We use AI to populate some slick modern web templates, and you can then plug in a form builder or something like that to collect info while you build.

Would love to chat more - Ben at Pagesake dot com

bgoldste··on Keeping your project free of unused components
Great thought and looks easy to to try out, thanks for sharing.
bgoldste··on Incident with Webhooks – GitHub
Think it’s on track to resolving. Was just able to spin this up using a GH workflow: https://github-outage.pagesake.com/
bgoldste··on Incident with Webhooks – GitHub
Noticed just now pushing something on Vercel, which seems partially affected too
bgoldste··on Giving up the iPad-only travel dream
Some of the apps allow you to download the content, while the browser version doesn’t. In case you don’t have to wifi on the flight.
bgoldste··on Giving up the iPad-only travel dream
And now it’s mine too…
bgoldste··on An interpreter for a programming language based on Spotify playlists
No examples / QuickStart (that I could find) really adds to the effect here, thanks for a laugh!
bgoldste··on She Steals Surfboards by the Seashore. She’s a Sea Otter
Been surfing for 15 years, own more than that many boards, and a wavestorm is still my daily driver.

It’s just always fun.

bgoldste··on Show HN: Workout.lol – a web app to easily create a workout routine
Also love the site.

> As a non native speaker I understand you’re trying to keep the instructions brief but I have to read them multiple times to understand what to do.

I’m a native speaker and I frequently experience this reading workout instructions. Something about exercise language in general feels very clunky.

bgoldste··on Finish your projects
Thanks for sharing these. Though I mostly do software I found his take very helpful.

Also nice to be reminded how fungible things are when no actual wires get involved.
