bernatfp··on Show HN: Kiwichat – group chat of people who are within 1 mile
Reminds me of Popcorn app. This looks like a very similar idea but for the web.
bernatfp··on Not available on the App Store
The author should run a Teespring campaign with this logo. I'd happily have one.
bernatfp··on Nodemailer: Easy e-mail sending from your Node.js applications
Another Nodemailer + Haraka user here. Works really well!
bernatfp··on Popcorn-app
Here's where a Proof of Bandwidth system like Bitcloud would come very handy. This way everybody is rewarded automatically in the same measure they contribute (ie seeding).
bernatfp··on 2048 in the terminal
Have you considered adding the original 2048 website to your homescreen as a webapp? Works like a charm to me.
bernatfp··on Rules for Learning Foreign Languages in Record Time
Incidentally, I have a friend who learned English as a third language exactly this way, playing WoW. He obtained the CAE this way.
bernatfp··on Ask HN: Being stubborn with investors
You're right, but it doesn't look like running away is an option. OP emphasizes that they need him, and is specifically asking for help on how to handle this.
bernatfp··on Ask HN: Being stubborn with investors
Oh, I hadn't got the part in which these small networks depend on a superset (ie university), I thought you were validating people yourselves.

In this case this change entails a higher leap. Then, consider talking again in how different is his proposition from what you want to achieve, and how better it is for him (as an investor who wants his investment to succeed) to go your way, not his way. Well, I assume you've already done that, but do it again. You should win him to your side or skip him.

bernatfp··on Ask HN: Being stubborn with investors
If you really want him on board, then agree to this change. I don't think this makes your vision change that much.

And maybe letting you choose who can create a group will also rise the quality of the groups. However, I agree with you that adding this mechanism won't help much in offensive content prevention, but it can put some users away if they can't create a group right away.

bernatfp··on [dead]
For those asking about the transaction being processed without transaction fee, it was possible because it satisfies three conditions: tx size < 1000 bytes, outputs are more than 0.01 btc and priority is high enough.

More details here: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Transaction_fees

bernatfp··on The iBeacon Protocol and How to Hack It
So, this is kind of network subnetting but for iBeacon, right?
bernatfp··on Show HN: GrowthHack as a Service – mturk + Google news api automation
This is awesome. It reminds me of this (but automated): http://customerdevlabs.com/2013/09/24/google-news-api-mturk-...

You should take it one step further and automatize email sending to the authors collected.

bernatfp··on Your best passive income? (2014)
At the moment I only have a source of passive income, which is through mining Litecoin with a couple miners I have.
bernatfp··on SICP in Clojure
Does Clojure differ a lot from Scheme for what SICP teaches? Is there any benefit for studying the Clojure version of SICP, rather than the original?
bernatfp··on Hey Latex users, I have an idea for you
I guess HTML is a good substitute for LaTeX in cases where it is too much overkill.

What I do when I have to produce documents: Markdown if it doesn't require much formatting, otherwise move to LaTeX to have more customization power (without having to pull my hair off).

bernatfp··on Total relay bandwidth in the Tor network
I don't like how this title oversimplifies the causes of growth to be the NSA scandal. I guess Silk Road also played an important role in this increase and it is not mentioned.
bernatfp··on Big Data: New Tricks for Econometrics [pdf]
The author mentions Pig as the open-source version of Go, which have nothing to do with each other.

Aside from that, this paper is excellent.

bernatfp··on Bitcoin Mining Uses $15 Million's Worth Of Electricity Every Day?
This is one of the reasons why Proof of Stake was proposed as a more efficient alternative to Proof of Work while keeping the incentive for miners to keep their rigs validating transactions.

Other cryptocurrencies such as Peercoin and Novacoin use both systems, but will shift to PoS only at some point in the future.

bernatfp··on It's practically impossible for regular people to buy Bitcoin
This is actually a good analogy to doing a startup.

Many people want to buy bitcoins, but only the ones that are really commited to doing so succeed.

It's very easy to say you wanted to buy Bitcoin, but did you really try that hard?

bernatfp··on MtGox launches Bitcoins.com, an information site for all things Bitcoin
For what it's worth, at the moment any bitcoin transaction is required to pay a 0.0005 BTC transaction fee in order to make sure it's gonna be included by miners into the blockchain.
bernatfp··on MtGox launches Bitcoins.com, an information site for all things Bitcoin
I'm also from the EU and used to have BTC (now I'm into LTC), so here is how I do it:

Register in Bitstamp or Kraken (my favourite exchanges).

Validate your account. You have to provide some sort of proof of identity and address. This is asked by governments and if they don't comply with them they can be closed without any previous notice, like it happened with the exchange bitcoin24. It can take up to 1 week.

Deposit cash. Companies like Visa/Mastercard/PayPal don't want to deal directly with BTC, that's why a bank transfer is more convenient. Being European you probably have cash in a SEPA bank, which is an advantadge because most exchanges accept SEPA deposits at a very low fee (much cheaper than a Wire Transfer) and they are usually very fast (1-2 working days).

bernatfp··on MtGox launches Bitcoins.com, an information site for all things Bitcoin
No, but I guess this affects the public image of the company.

My understanding is that any serious company with issues of this magnitude would solely focus on sorting that out first and doing nothing else than that.

bernatfp··on MtGox launches Bitcoins.com, an information site for all things Bitcoin
I wonder how Mt. Gox dares to spend their time creating this (which is nice by the way) instead of solving their withdrawal issues and finishing their new trading engine integration, which is pissing off many of their customers.

The only reasonable explanation is that they have given up on decreasing their churn rate and instead they are focusing on acquiring newbies into their platform. Actually this is kind of sad...

bernatfp··on Ask HN: Best way to buy litecoins?
It can be hard to tune your system, but if you build your rig with usual components, that is the ones that appear on guides, it is very easy to get running. We didn't make the right choice for our GPU's and suffered a bit at the start.

Check the litecoinmining subreddit, there's a lot of information there and the community is very helpful.

bernatfp··on Ask HN: Best way to buy litecoins?
If your bank account is associated with a bank from the EU, I'd recommend you to buy Litecoin through Kraken [1] if you don't want to acquire big amounts (I love this exchange but it doesn't move much volume). Otherwise use Bitstamp [2] to buy Bitcoin and move them to BTC-E [3].

You can also have a look at Bitfinex [4], which is starting to take off with Litecoin trading. I've heard they are already the 4th exchange in terms of LTC volume but haven't had any experience with them yet, so can't say much on them.

I live in the EU so I don't know what are the fees for wire transfer deposits, but I'd expect them to be lower on those exchanges that have low SEPA transfer deposit fees as well.

bernatfp··on Gadget: A smallish web framework for Go
Yeah just after posting my comment.

BTW, great work, that's exactly what I was looking for.

bernatfp··on Gadget: A smallish web framework for Go
As a fan of Flask/Bottle/Sinatra/Express style web frameworks I miss a Go framework that works in a similar fashion. Don't know of any better way to prototype APIs so quickly and with such a small mental effort.

Edit: Just discovered [Martini](https://github.com/codegangsta/martini), that's exactly what I wanted.

bernatfp··on A China Triangle: Bitcoin, Baidu, And Beijing
In these cases, use of CoinJoin is encouraged.
bernatfp··on Nerdalize: warm house, cheap datacenter
This would be useful with SHA256/scrypt miners to mitigate costs.

I was considering doing this with my Litecoin miner. Its fans pull hot air from my GPUs at 85ºC which makes its room warmer than my bedroom. Maybe I should move it to my room and turn off the heater...
