The UK recently privatised it's post office, there's lots of competition in its postal market (thank goodness).
The UK railways where private before 1948, then nationalised, it didn't work out well. Then privatised 40 or so years later because the government couldn't afford the investment required.
Are you in favour of nationalised air travel? UK tried that too and it was terrible. Exactly the same for telecoms. I'm just glad we don't have a nationalised food supply.
1. The investment can come from the private sector, it takes the risk instead of burdening the tax payer.
2. Free rail for all burdens all with the cost of rail, it removes freedom of not paying for it.
3. No ticket pricing means no market signals that would show if the operator is running it's business poorly.
4. No adjustable pricing mean that the user has no reason to adjust their usage in terms of avoiding peak times or utilising quieter times.
5. No competition means no alternative, if the monopoly provides a terrible service that fleeces the tax payer, well tough luck for the user.
I did it for a few years and it made me pretty depressed. By the end of it I stopped giving a shit and just resumed my normal Friday night of having a few beers (or a lot of beers). At first they offered me a rate that was less than min wage. I said no until it was an acceptable rate. Every other company seems to pay terrible on call rates in the UK. It makes me angry just thinking about this period of my life.
Seriously, if a company wants to make money doing SAAS then they can't expect to steal employee time. My advice, if asked to do it, refuse until they offer very good money for it. Good luck to them recruiting a system expert to replace you.
Also Google from and to Tetris as there are courses using the book called this. In fact that's what they were going to call the book.
There's no conspiracy, companies are there to make money, that's it.
Just read your bit on how focused you felt using that. Very interesting!
I still have my ATX big case pc and won't give it up for a laptop even though it makes no sense (well it does in that I can upgrade bits as I please).
However for the most part I associate computers with work and stress these days.
Unfortunately I smoked my first joint at 13, I'm pretty certain it damaged my short term memory. I think had it been legal I wouldn't have got hold of it until much older plus it would have lost some of its cool factor.
It was mostly hash in my day, I actually never liked weed , it was all super skunk loaded with thc that caused paranoia.
Alcohol, cocaine and mdma are rough drugs too but there's something about weed/hash that makes me think it's overall mental effects might be worse. It's odd that it's written off as harmless quite often. (Btw I think all drugs should be legal, but I also now think they are all horrible and have nothing to do with them , well apart from beer and wine!)
Had to Google that, though it does sound temporary?
Might be noticing key frame animation in 8 bit games. It can have a really nice subtle effect.
