"Yeah, I know, someone unpublished left-pad again!"
Now when I say "hero worship", it sounds like I'm saying he's the opposite of a hero, to be honest I just know the name and the case, I haven't dug deep into it to make my own judgement, but I've seen a lot of comments championing him as a hero, and to me it seems their view of him clouds their judgement.
A while ago it was doing the reverse, translating all video titles to the local (where I live) language. I was watching American gaming content but the titles were in a different language. Fuck you very much, YouTube.

So it might be you're basing your knowledge from some fictional show where the writers got it wrong.
Makes me think of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TCeR_SWZM0, just adjust Chandler's line to "0-60 in 3 seconds, top speed of 160mph, 500 mile range!"

Opened your link, scrolled to the conclusions. Hah, reads like a Q-Anon writing...
Sibling comment has been modded to death by talking about players coming from countries with slavery, that seems over the top, but another online comment I've read is that in the Middle East, slavery is right there, meanwhile in the West there is a bit of distance. Who makes your clothes (probably underpaid Bangladeshi, or nowadays, Ughyurs), who makes your electronics (probably Chinese factory workers in not-so-great conditions), or who mined the minerals needed for them?
The hadline makes it seem Sony had so many bitcoins, and they were stolen. No, Sony had cash, it was stolen, and got converted. An equivalent headline might be "US returns $154M in Lamborghinis stolen by Sony employee." and you'd be wondering Why Sony had so many Lamborghinis...
I guess it's a paranoia which he's supported with cherry-picked info from history. Someone else better has written that world politics is about who has the most influence, e.g. USA and Europe used to be able to decide almost everything everywhere ("we'll give you development loans, in return you'll have to buy our products"). China is doing that in Africa now, and from Putin's perspective Eastern Europe now has "puppet" governments controlled by USA/Germany (in the guise of EU), I wouldn't be surprised if he thinks their democratic elections are as rigged as Russia's ones, with the media under control of the rulers.
I guess Putin is worried that Russia could fall under that sphere of influence, although I don't know how missiles pointed at Moscow would make the country more democratic... Maybe he sees them as a persuasion tools, after all that's also what he uses his forces for.
I wish the people who do have to work with you as little hardship as they need to suffer...
Communication is about exchanging information. If you're this English guy and you're blabbing something and no one understands you, would you be fine with being not understood (i.e. your information being lost)? If so, why even open your mouth?
GP's scenario is about people in Continental Europe. If the English knowledge is weak, an English person speaking in idioms (e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=awUqKKEKQh4 ) would confuse them quite easily.
I guess it'll go... nowhere.
I guess in well-off countries like Finland, less girls are taking their clothes off and putting their bits online. Maybe I'm just not looking...
But yeah, it's an incredible confluence. Investment banks becoming unregulated, super big, and crashing the world economy, depressing the job market for a decade plus. Reality TV, social media, and "talent" shows promoting the "Get rich quick through fame" lifestyle. The broadcast camera and studio that fits in your pocket (thanks Steve). Everyone making some fortune out of the crypto-scam. A pandemic, lockdown and bailout money making a lot of horny guys with cash to spend: OnlyFans!
Feels like the Black Mirror episode "Fifteen Million Merits" (where everyone was trying to get into a talent show).
It becomes an alternative form of giving them your change, and you conveniently don't have to carry the bottle home. Although I've lived in a city where an old lady was known to roam the parks and was very pushy about wanting you to surrender your bottles.
Sure China claims to be a communist country, but over there money still talks and ultimately rules.
Edit: I actually read the article after writing this comment, and from the first few paragraphs (even just subtitle alone) the author is just talking about America, not the world.
But who am I to preach, I'm part of "people" in the above sentence...
There's an epidemic of loneliness, I wonder why, is it people having FOMO due to social media, reality TV, etc?
