bejd··on Sugihara's Dog
From finding his name in the Twitter comments, his channel seems to be https://www.youtube.com/@kokichisugihara3277
bejd··on TikTok's new feature will track your emotions to sell ads
That's called "the Tetris effect" [0]. It was later used as the title for a game in the series.

That's a UK motorway, so assuming the national speed limit applies they'll be travelling at around 70 mp/h.

Naughty.

Missing a mews in central London where I used to work, but I suspect they're more focused on aesthetically pleasing locations.

bejd··on How Brian Eno Created Ambient 1: Music for Airports
I used similar techniques to make an ambient album in a couple of days. Rather than tape loops, it's just looping different length samples in Ableton Live. Here's a quick explainer video I uploaded to YouTube.

bejd··on Ask HN: 10k hours rule to master anything. Could I switch career when I am 43?
Many people here are saying the "10,000 hours rule" is a myth, and while I wouldn't disagree with them it's a little more nuanced than that. Gladwell is a populariser, and simplified the research of Anders Ericsson [1] into a catchy soundbite.

Ericsson describes "deliberate practice". That is, to become an expert you must "work on high specific tasks assigned to overcome weaknesses, and you would have your performance monitored carefully for further improvement" [2]

bejd··on Ladybird: A new cross-platform browser project
While common knowledge says that building a new browser is "too big, too hard", I'm excited that some intrepid people are tackling this problem and wish them success!

bejd··on An experiment to test if Bionic Reading helps you read faster
Also 23% faster with BR but I enjoyed reading that way less. As with yourself, I suspect that maybe I put pressure on myself to read faster for the BR.

As the article says, a better comparison may be to have a fake version of BR as the control.

bejd··on Things I can’t do on macOS which I can do on Ubuntu (2020)
Option + double click on the corner of the window (where your mouse changes to the diagonal resize arrow).

I switched from Win10 to macOS recently and had to search the web to find this, so discoverability is certainly an issue. I suppose Apple would rather you just fullscreen a window than maximise a la Windows.

bejd··on Macro Shots Taken Inside Instruments (2012)
A previous discussion [1] of a similar project used a Lumix S1R camera and a Laowa Probe lens, with numerous images combined to create the effect.

bejd··on Show HN: I made a web game using emojis and no JS framework
Fast Flood No.3 → ⌛ → 19 seconds ▶ → 17 moves → 1 try

Not sure if that took me 19 seconds or 19 seconds remaining.

bejd··on Best Wordle guessing strategy
It probably didn't take a lot of reverse engineering: the solution list is stored in plaintext in the site's javascript!
bejd··on I'm getting tired of modern meme culture
That's where they lost me. See also

>Take for example wojak. Although originally used to further various right-wing talking points

I wouldn't expect everyone to know the origin of every meme, but even a cursory internet search [0] will show that Wojaks started out far more benign.

bejd··on Many of the clothes we donate to charity end up dumped in landfill
It's the local people's term for the clothing, which is explained in the article:

> They call them “obroni wawu” — dead white man’s clothes.

bejd··on Show HN: An ASCII art music video animated with JavaScript
The play button should be above the video. It might be getting pushed off-screen if the viewport is wide but not too tall. I should have been less lazy with the CSS which currently only takes into account screen width for resizing the various page elements. I'll make some adjustments.
bejd··on Show HN: An ASCII art music video animated with JavaScript
Thanks for checking it out. I'm absolutely not a true ASCII artist, so my primary method of creating the images was rotoscoping an initial frame of video, then duplicating and adjusting each frame by hand after that. I'd love to see some proper animated ASCII art by someone more talented than me!
