beebmam··on The casino in your pocket
If people are dumb enough to consentually waste time and money on casinos, they deserve to lose their time and money. Some might say the government should intervene; I personally don't care.
beebmam··on Pixel 8 leak promises 7 years of OS updates
After the rug pull of the Pixel Pass, I'm done with Google. That was one of the scammiest things they've ever done. I'm still fucking pissed about it and it's been a month.
beebmam··on What was behind Microsoft's layoffs of over 20k people in the last year?
Very valid point. One could extend this definition such that: When someone has enough wealth to make a comfortable living passively, they're no longer working class. I think that should sufficiently account for this.
beebmam··on What was behind Microsoft's layoffs of over 20k people in the last year?
Working class means that you are earning a wage/salary and you don't own the means of your value production. Small businesses typically aren't working class, whereas sports professionals typically are working class.

If you want to talk about income levels, "working class" isn't a term you should be using; it's too big of a bucket.

beebmam··on YouTube blocks Russell Brand from making money through its platform
Yes, both are preferable to the current system.
beebmam··on What can medicine do for people with genes for ALS?
Epigenetics might play a role, too, like it usually does.
beebmam··on YouTube blocks Russell Brand from making money through its platform
The less money that creators get from YouTube, the better. Content becomes a swamp when content gets monetized for the creator. The internet was so much better before everything was monetized. The platform should always be pocketing all the money.
beebmam··on Microsoft Nintendo acquisition hopes revealed by leaked Xbox exec email
I think the opposite. Imagine how many MTX iPhone games we'd get. Please GOD no.
beebmam··on Close to 2k environmental activists killed over last decade
Lobbying
beebmam··on What Silicon Valley “gets” about software engineers
That's good, in fact. People should be compensated for the value they generate. Why should a fast food worker be compensated equivalently to a doctor or engineer? I do not want to live in a world where that could exist.
beebmam··on Vegas casinos are still reeling from a cyberattack
Unlikely. Startups are way easier to attack than big tech.
beebmam··on Repeat after me: building any new homes reduces housing costs for all
Housing barely appreciates above inflation. About 4% on average, yearly. It would be better if we didn't interfere in the market, or there are going to be some nasty consequences.
beebmam··on Why has a useless cold medication been allowed on shelves for years?
Stuff like this is why people are losing trust in medicine.
beebmam··on Xfce Wayland Development Roadmap
I like those experiments
beebmam··on iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus
I despise Apple products and I despise Google products, for very different reasons. Can't we get an alternative? Bring back the Windows phone! Or a Blackberry!
beebmam··on The Relativity of Wrong (1989)
Asimov is such a poignant writer, I can't help but smile when I read him.
beebmam··on Meta wants its open source AI model to be as capable as OpenAI’s best model
Call me when it can compete with GPT-4. It continues to astound me.
beebmam··on Microsoft has not stopped forcing Edge on Windows 11 users
Good! Chrome is a monstrous application, and it's good when people are coerced off of it.
beebmam··on A Senior Engineer's Check-List (2019)
Disagree, profoundly.
beebmam··on Why SaaS prices are still going up when companies are spending less
Terms like SaaS, IaaS, PaaS are pretty fluid outside of specific contexts.
beebmam··on A Senior Engineer's Check-List (2019)
Disagree. A senior engineer should make evidence based decisions, as should any engineer. If there's missing evidence for a conclusion, then a senior engineer should be able to design experiments which gather more evidence to derive a conclusion.

Senior engineers should not be con-men.

beebmam··on The molecule DIM reduces biofilms causing dental plaque: study
Then why doesn't a country with a nationalized health care system do it? There are incentives in other countries that would encourage this, if it were possible.
beebmam··on Why Socialism? (1949)
The UN's biggest flaw is the security council veto power.
beebmam··on How Amazon uses chaos engineering to handle 80k requests per second
A giant portion of Amazon's products are made in China by a populace that's enslaved by their totalitarian dictator. Please allow me to identify which products are made in China, and other communist/totalitarian states, so that I can exclude them from my searches.
beebmam··on How Amazon uses chaos engineering to handle 80k requests per second
I'm sick of it being impossible to identify cheaply made products from high quality, durable products on Amazon. The rating system is flat out broken and there's an entire industry built around gaming those ratings.

I'm at the point that I rarely ever buy products on Amazon anymore. It's a total disgrace. On an ethical level, I wish I had the ability to say "I only want to be presented with results that weren't made in China or other slave societies".

beebmam··on ChatGPT can get worse over time, Stanford study finds
I observed the same as you, but for GPT-4.
beebmam··on Sony sends copyright notices to TV Museum about shows 40 to 60 years old
YouTube should, like any other business, have the right to be judge jury and executioner of all content they host and provide to others on their platform. Period. They should never be coerced by a government to not have the right to not host content.
beebmam··on Sony sends copyright notices to TV Museum about shows 40 to 60 years old
Why shouldn't a business get to decide what content they host on their platform? They're paying to keep that data hosted and the services up and maintained! Are you suggesting YouTube shouldn't have the right to refuse hosting someone's content?
beebmam··on Ask HN: Why is home property information so public?
Is your argument that everyone's assets should be public information? How do you square this with people interested in blackmail, or abusive families?
beebmam··on HTML Design Principles (2007)
Disagree with implementers coming after authors, profoundly.
