Is this really what political analysis has stooped to on HN in 2023? A total abdication of any attempt at nuance, or framing, or examining underlying intentions.
Such a shame.
It is impossible to come up with a macroeconomic model that perfectly describes reality because economic realities are far too complex to be modelled. That doesn't mean there is zero truth or value to these models, but it means they are certainly wrong, and that is is healthy to approach all macroeconomic analysis with a critical mind.

IIRC, Penn once said that a long time ago, they would perform seances, while fully informing the audiences that nothing they're doing is supernatural and there's no actual spirits being summoned; just that they're using the same techniques that con-men mediums use. No matter what they prefaced their performances with, or assured after the performance, many members of the audience didn't believe that these weren't supernatural events, and would believe that they actually communicated with spirits. For that reason, Penn said, they stopped doing them permanently.

Of course, these animals are not humans, and our ethics don't exactly map to their lives. It may ethically justified to use their lives for many types of scientific experiments. I am sometimes in this camp. Especially for medical science purposes, where the results of the research can be used to enrich all lives, even non-human lives.
It's hard for me to ethically justify this. Maybe I'd change my mind if it could be shown to me that this had potential to lead to important medical knowledge for humans and non-humans alike.
