bdittmer··on Kaspersky Lab Discovers 'Gauss'
That is incredibly clever.
bdittmer··on Build muscle memory with your favorite editor
I actually work with Watson, the creator :) So I cheated a little.
bdittmer··on Build muscle memory with your favorite editor
Try tapping ABACABB (the Mortal Combat blood code) on the homepage for some fun. Nice easter egg :)
bdittmer··on Ask HN: FizzBuzz for mathematicians ...
The Monty Hall problem? Like other suggestions, too many people might be able to recreate it from memory.
bdittmer··on Show HN: Collections, a fast multiple-account Google Docs client for Mac
Got it. You guys should read up on iCloud :)
bdittmer··on Show HN: Collections, a fast multiple-account Google Docs client for Mac
I guess I don't understand why they even need to store anything on their servers?
bdittmer··on Show HN: Collections, a fast multiple-account Google Docs client for Mac
Kind of confused by this heroku error message I received? Are you storing my gmail credentials on heroku? When I tried again I have a google /looking/ login screen?

bdittmer··on Show HN: Hipmob is Olark for mobile apps. (Live support chat, now on Android)
This looks a lot like look.io (http://www.look.io - redirects to LivePerson who recently acquired them), which is already live in and working in a few apps (Hotel Tonight and others iirc).
bdittmer··on Why Instagram is so fast at uploading photos
I'm really surprised by the number of commenters who didn't figure this out already?
bdittmer··on How Basecamp Next got to be so damn fast without using much client-side UI
I think you nailed it with "unless those exact same actions are actually (YAGNI) used as endpoints of a web service". I find client side javascript apps compelling because they are simply another consumer of your web service along with any other mobile/third-party/customer apps.
bdittmer··on Ron Conway is a Silicon Valley startup's best friend
Anyone willing to share some first hand accounts of this?
bdittmer··on Poll: How much did you earn from your stock options during exit?
Perhaps there should be a "Haven't had an exit or IPO" so we can get a sense for how rare these events are?
bdittmer··on How to Write Good iOS Apps
No, no it doesn't take a lot of steps. Perhaps I'll do a screencast to prove it.
bdittmer··on Uber drops fares for SF Taxi strike
They are pretty open about the fact most fares are around 2x that of a normal taxi.
bdittmer··on Ask HN: Who is Hiring? (June 2011)

bdittmer··on Apple support forums confirm malware explosion
Explosion? From this article it looks it's a single piece of malware that people are having trouble with. Hardly an explosion.
bdittmer··on Ask HN: Who is going to Startup lessons learned?
I will be there!
bdittmer··on Ask HN: High Quality iOS Libraries
JSONKit (https://github.com/johnezang/JSONKit) is by far the best JSON parsing library I've seen.
bdittmer··on Early Access Program for JetBrains appCode, Objective-C IDE
First impressions after using it for an hour or so:

- code completion destroys XCode, it's much more accurate.

- tabs make everything better.

- code generation is OK, more accessible and better than XCode.

- seems stable, no crashes thus far.

bdittmer··on Ask HN: Who is Hiring? (April 2011)
San Francisco, CA Wiseview Research (http://www.wise-view.com)

We are currently looking for an experienced rails developer and a designer with mobile experience. We are funded and provide full health benefits. Currently we are working out of Rocketspace, a pretty cool environment to be in. brian@wise-view.com

bdittmer··on Did you know: In NYC, yellow cabs are required to take you anywhere in NYC.
SF has similar laws. The one I see cab drivers break most often is refusing to accept payment via credit card. If you ever get in a cab in San Francisco and they tell you they don't take credit cards they're either lying or shouldn't be driving the cab in the first place.
bdittmer··on Zero to a Million Users in 15 Days
Errr, going from 55k users to a million users inside of 15 days is still an impressive feat...
bdittmer··on Ask HN: What are you reading right now?
I'm having trouble getting any work done knowing it's waiting for me in my backpack.
bdittmer··on "Rate My Startup" Post Policy
What constitutes an established account? I rarely comment on posts but have had an account for 2.5+ years and regularly upvote posts and comments. Is my account "established"?
bdittmer··on Ask HN: Please review my Mac App
I've been thinking about building something like this for years, I have just never had the bandwidth to get around to it. Thank you for doing it for me!
bdittmer··on I.B.M’s Bid to Woo Software Startups
I don't know anyone in their right mind who would start building a new system around WebSphere in the first place, free or not. Is it even running on Java 1.5 yet?
bdittmer··on IPhone software sustainability and the death of Mac software
App Bodega (http://www.appbodega.com) is a somewhat successful Mac app store that I find useful for finding new apps and keeping track of app updates. It's also really well done in terms of UI / usability. It's a shame they failed to even mention it - they're not helping the situation.

Oh, and from what I understand Apple is working on a Mac app store. As someone getting ready to launch a Mac shareware app I found this quote especially hilarious:

"Mac software sales since the current distribution and sales methods are in place and well established."

bdittmer··on Build It With Me Helps Connect Designers With Developers
I like the idea of connecting designers and developers, although I fear that "designers" may end up being business folks who simply bring an idea to the table and nothing else.
bdittmer··on Jeff Vogel Indie Game Developer releases new RPG (Mac Only For the Moment)
The Exile series was a staple of my youth. Great stuff.
bdittmer··on Odeo Releases Twttr [2006]
Man, it sure was nice when TC was about reviewing startups.
