bdibs··on Ask HN: How much coffee do you drink as a programmer?
I work from home, use an Aeropress, and drink between 4-6 cups of black coffee per day. Once it starts getting late I’ll sometimes throw in a cup of green tea.
bdibs··on Ask HN: How do you tell SaaS sales people you want a self-serve option?
Of course it works, otherwise they wouldn’t continue using it.

It’s a simple way to extract the most value from a customer, as well as filter out customers they don’t deem viable for their business.

bdibs··on Ask HN: How are you managing your money now?
Pretty much the same as before, just with a bit more regular buys for dollar cost averaging.

In enough time we’ll be at new highs like usual, there’s no need to panic.

bdibs··on Ask HN: What projects are you working on now?
I’m working on my podcast listening website and apps, https://www.podalong.com.

Podalong is (eventually) going to help connect listeners of their favorite podcasts with each other and in new ways with the podcasters themselves.

A lot of work still to go, but I’m more and more excited every day about its future.

Website is built with Elixir/Phoenix Framework, app is built using Flutter. I highly recommend both!

bdibs··on Ask HN: What are all the things that can go wrong during authentication?
Check out OWASP’s cheat sheet: https://cheatsheetseries.owasp.org/cheatsheets/Authenticatio...
bdibs··on Apple now allows iOS developers to send ads using push notifications
That’s completely inaccurate, the dialog only shows once the app requests the permission.
bdibs··on “Let’s use Kubernetes.” Now you have eight problems
I personally went from 4 servers to 5, self hosting ELK and it works great.
bdibs··on Show HN: Goodreads Data Pipeline
A data lake is raw, unstructured data vs. a warehouse where everything is already parsed, processed, and currently query-able is my understanding.
bdibs··on Time.gov was upgraded today
My iPhone is showing 0.024s for an extra data point.
bdibs··on Overview of vulnerabilities in web applications
Another resource I’d recommend is OWASP’s lists, their top 10 is a good starting place:

bdibs··on The world's first Bitcoin-settled index futures
I don't think leveraging (let alone at 100x) and crypto is a great mix for obvious reasons. Also:

"As one of very few exchanges, we got an A+ score in the Mozilla Observatory Security Test. We have lost $0 to hacks since our launch."

I'm unsure how the first part is really relevant, and you've lost $0 to hacks since your launch, 2 days ago?

bdibs··on Haters
Depends on your definition of famous, but Patrick Collison of Stripe is here every now and then. Antirez of Redis, too.
bdibs··on Ask HN: Have you found success and a good work life balance?
Thanks!

Do you use paid advertising also or primarily focus on ASO?

bdibs··on Ask HN: Have you found success and a good work life balance?
Any tips for customer acquisition on the App Store?
bdibs··on Show HN: Create and mail a free postcard
Looks pretty neat, what are your costs?
bdibs··on Ask HN: Solo devs, how do you plan your development?
I use Trello for the big picture, and paper and pen for more specific daily todo’s.
bdibs··on Ask HN: 2020 goals and resolutions?
Back when I was first learning Phoenix, I watched a couple of your videos! The one I can remember is about using edeliver to deploy, which I'm using right now for my little project, Podalong.

Just wanted to thank you for them, it's a solid resource for anyone interested in Elixir/Phoenix. I hope you reach and exceed your goals!

bdibs··on Merry Christmas HN
Merry Christmas everyone! Hope it’s a good one!
bdibs··on Show HN: Angeldust – a fast and efficient video game
Looks fantastic! When did you originally start development?
bdibs··on Nitter: Alternative Twitter Front-End
IIRC it was leaked from some older version of the app, and they haven’t/won’t revoke it.
bdibs··on Unexpected Page Fault In Virtualized Environment Advisory
There seem to be quite a few security updates today from Intel: https://www.us-cert.gov/ncas/current-activity/2019/12/10/int...
bdibs··on Brave Passes 10M Monthly Active Users, Sees 19% Growth Since 1.0 Launch
From their FAQ:

"Publishers must verify ownership of their properties with Brave in order to receive contributions from Brave users. If a publisher has not verified ownership, then a user’s contributions will be held in reserve inside the browser for 90 days. The browser routinely updates an internal list of all verified publishers to determine whether a property can receive contributions. At the end of the 90 day period, any contributions marked for unverified publishers will be released back to the wallet. No funds leave the browser except to go to verified creators."

bdibs··on Firefox Replay
“Almost all implementation work so far has been on macOS. Windows port work is underway, but is not yet working. The difficulties are in figuring out the set of system library APIs to intercept, in getting the memory management and dirty memory parts of the rewind infrastructure to work, and in handling the different graphics and IPC pathways on different platforms.“

bdibs··on Firefox Replay
Looks potentially really useful, but is it normal for them to create a whole site just for one new feature?
bdibs··on Show HN: Gorse – A recommender system back end based on collaborative filtering
I’ve been looking for a recommender system, how does this compare to something like Apache’s PredictionIO?

bdibs··on Postgres Health Check and SQL Performance Analysis
I don’t think they were questioning the possibility, just the practical need of it.
