bdhdhduuyd··on New Mac Studio with M5 Max and M5 Ultra
I have been thinking a lot about buying a very fast desktop and a cheap laptop that uses remote desktop to connect to the fast computer.

But in the end I ended op buying a Lenovo Legion and put Linux on it.

Laptops are so fast these days that I didn't want to be bothered with setting up connectivity to a remote desktop.

But if your laptop never leaves your desk I think a desktop computer is a great option. Relatively cheaper and easier to maintain and upgrade.

bdhdhduuyd··on MS Paint and Photos inivisibly watermark even locally generated output with GUID
Well I will never ever buy something from Microsoft again because they do hate their customers.

I own an Xbox with an family account. Microsoft's account management is terrible. Their customer support is terrible (computer says no). Never again.

bdhdhduuyd··on LLMs could control their host machines by exploiting inference engines
The inference engine itself does not execute anything. The agent loop is what may execute a command. So I think this article is a kind of strange.

Or maybe the author means that a prompt could potentially mess up the inference. But I find it hard to see how that could take control over the host.

bdhdhduuyd··on Xiaomi: New CPU matches Apple cores single threaded, much faster multithreaded
They already consider it as one country. The CCP sees Taiwan as a province of China.
bdhdhduuyd··on Slovakia finds Russian backdoor in traffic speed cameras
So they bought the cameras and some people pointed out they look exactly the same as Russian cameras. The government denied this but after they figured out the serial numbers matched the Russian cameras they started this investigation.

Good they investigated this before using them, but this sounds like a big fu...

bdhdhduuyd··on There's no reason for software to be slow anymore
Well, I have been using 3DsMax and Blender from the early versions and it's always been the case that Blender is way faster.

Legacy baggage has nothing to do with it, in my opinion.

bdhdhduuyd··on There's no reason for software to be slow anymore
For me the comparison has always been 3DsMax vs Blender. Same kind of software, same kind of features, but Blender is so much faster.

Architectural decisions have always been important.

bdhdhduuyd··on What Happens When the Cost of Intelligence Drops 100x
Personally I still see LLMs as very advanced search engines which lack intelligence. To me it seems that the cost of getting data is reduced by LLMs, not the cost of intelligence. I mean: we tell the model what we want to achieve, and the model responds with the right data in de form of code in seconds.

That's why 'stackoverflow programmers' will have a hard time competing with LLMs but engineers are still needed for their intelligence.

Well that's just my 2 cents.

bdhdhduuyd··on US debt has hit $40tn - Will that be a wake-up call?
Which is already slowly happening.
bdhdhduuyd··on HTML Can Do That
This. I also create a lot of Blazor apps and I always make sure things like filters are based on GET query parameters.

But this can be done in any JavaScript framework and ofcourse Vanilla JavaScript. It takes some effort, but creates a much better user experience.

bdhdhduuyd··on Aaron Swartz was prosecuted for scraping, while Meta does it without consequence
It's some context about his struggles.
bdhdhduuyd··on Linux 7.2
I also have been using Linux for over 20 years and I agree that hardware support is the most noticable.

This year I have installed Linux Mint on computers from people who wanted to jump from Windows to Linux. Every time I booted via USB, installed Linux and 10 minutes later everything was working. This would not have happened 10 years ago. Back then there would always be an issue with a video driver, WiFi driver or audio driver.

Of course there are still hardware issues for some special deviced, but today Linux just runs fine for most people. And that's a great accomplishment.

bdhdhduuyd··on Why the Ocean Cleanup hasn't solved the plastic pollution crisis
Yes they might catch a lot of animals, but I didn't read how harmfull this really is.

When you drive at night you kill a huge amount of insects. But we don't consider this harmful.

So the real question is: do they save more animals by removing the plastic.

By the way: there are a lot of scientists involved in the Ocean Cleanup team. So I don't think they overlook the fact that they catch animals.

bdhdhduuyd··on Google has stopped pushing Git tags for some Android source code
First of all; thanks for working on GrapheneOS!

2 questions:

  - How hard is it for manufacturers to include the option Android/Graphene just like they have memory and storage options?

  - Could this be a point where GrapheneOS disconnects from Android and become an independent OS?
