bdavbdav··on Running Tesla Model 3's computer on my desk using parts from crashed cars
Interesting - just found this: https://www.pentestpartners.com/security-blog/reverse-engine...

Not had a chance to read it properly but definitely will be!

Not sure - if I was designing it, feels like it would be a good way of getting the right build to the right car so that all the HW versions of each module are in line.

Not sure about your specific car, but a lot of the “consumer friendly” options like OBDeleven, Carly, etc are fantastic. You often have to pay, but a lot of work goes into them and they often just work.

From messing around with these units from various cars, which often need more enablement than these, sometimes it’s nice to just know your interpretation of the wiring diagrams isn’t at fault when chasing down “no lights at all” issues.

Not necessarily. All they have to do is roll a pub key into the update package. Same as any OTA update.
bdavbdav··on The worst volume control UI in the world (2017)
There’s an accessibility option in iOS to reduce white point that can be mapped
bdavbdav··on Starlink Mini as a failover
I'm currently on Three. I tried both EE and O2, same issue sadly. Not tried Vodafone.
bdavbdav··on Starlink Mini as a failover
I live a 25 minute train ride from london in a town with about 16000 residents, on a busy street 5 minutes walk from the main station.

My cell is unusable.

bdavbdav··on MacBook Neo
I’ve found that experience fairly common at our Apple Store. They’ve talked me down.
bdavbdav··on MacBook Pro with M5 Pro and M5 Max
I’m not sure what model I’d trust locally with anything meaningful in Openclaw. The smaller/simpler the model is, the greater the chance of fluff answers is.
bdavbdav··on Making MCP cheaper via CLI
I’m not sure how this works. A lot of that tool description is important to the Agent understanding what it can and can’t do with the specific MCP provider. You’d have to make up for that with a much longer overarching description. Especially for internal only tools that the LLM has no intrinsic context for.
bdavbdav··on Danish government agency to ditch Microsoft software (2025)
Not sure if you've worked in an office recently, but on google workspace I (we) use very regularly:

- Group Editing - this ones hard to get right - Reviewing Tools - Automated document generation - Embedding of data-backed images from 3rd party tools

Looking at my wife who works in government, they use it even more heavily, with a lot of complicated formatting, numbering, standards etc going into each document, plus OneDrive collaborative features on top of that.

I suspect office-user people are where most of the features get used. Agreed, most people only use 15% of the features, but which 15% that is likely changes quickly person to person.

bdavbdav··on Spain’s LaLiga has blocked access to freedom.gov
What would you suggest they did in this case, advertise a false AS/ ranges?
bdavbdav··on FULU Bounties – Ring Video Doorbells
I’d love this for our Ring floodlight cameras. Trying to bridge them to Frigate has been a nightmare.
bdavbdav··on I found a vulnerability. they found a lawyer
Would a better course of action here have been for him to generate a “test test” account under his?
bdavbdav··on Google Public CA is down
This comment sponsored by Vivo barefoot. I really do wear them myself. Honest.
bdavbdav··on I love the work of the ArchWiki maintainers
I knew roughly the right path, and wanted guidance on that (cli guidance specifically). It was refusing to do so saying it wouldn’t work! It did work…:
bdavbdav··on I love the work of the ArchWiki maintainers
I think my position is that I don’t trust it at all carte Blanche, but if I know what I’m doing, then it’s helpful as a doc source. In this case, I wasn’t too familiar with the specific cli tools, flags etc and it was a shortcut.
bdavbdav··on I love the work of the ArchWiki maintainers
Because I wasn’t 100% sure of the solution myself, and wanted to talk through how to actually implement the theory of what I wanted to do. I knew that what it was suggesting was 100% wrong, but not of the best path.
bdavbdav··on I love the work of the ArchWiki maintainers
Absolutely. Even though I don’t use arch (btw), the wiki is still a fantastic configuration reference for many packages: systemd, acpi, sensors, networkmanager I’ve used it for fairly recently.

You see it referenced everywhere as a fantastic documentation source. I’d love seeing that if I were a contributor

They may be preferred, but in a lot of cases they’re pretty terrible.

I had a bit of a heated debate with ChatGPT about the best way to restore a broken strange mdadm setup. It was very confidently wrong, and battled its point until I posted terminal output.

Sometimes I feel it’s learnt from the more belligerent side of OSS maintenance!

bdavbdav··on Luce: First Electric Ferrari
This looks like some kids DT project presentation - focusing too much on things that the target audience aren’t really going to care about.

Also, how soulless is this car. Some cars I get into (previous gen Audis, used to with BMWs, Porsche) and feel that they’ve built the interior for the drivers enjoyment. This, no clue.

I use an iPhone (out of choice) but what MFA doesn’t work on android?

Who are these “creators”? Can you point to them? Is there a legal entity?
bdavbdav··on Microsoft account bugs locked me out of Notepad – Are thin clients ruining PCs?
Came here to post this, what an asinine thing to say.
bdavbdav··on Steam Hardware: Launch timing and other FAQs
Yeah I was really frustrated the other day to find that my steam controller doesn’t work with my LG TV as a standard XInput device, either on BT or receiver. Assumed it would.
bdavbdav··on Notepad++ supply chain attack breakdown
VSCode in UI land, nano/vim in terminal.
bdavbdav··on Notepad++ supply chain attack breakdown
Or the TLS cert of the update server seemingly?
bdavbdav··on Notepad++ supply chain attack breakdown
I get that the installer dropped the app cert, but how did the MITM’d download server pass TLS cert validation? Either they weren’t validating (why???) or they weren’t using HTTPS (why???)
bdavbdav··on A sane but bull case on Clawdbot / OpenClaw
I have one. It’s the stupidest thing ever. It tries to detect food items going in and out, requires confirmation on screen, and maybe categorises 5% of things automatically.
