bbbrad··on When did Google get so weird?
This is the craziest example of dead internet I've ever seen. Look what happens now when you type this into Google...

query: "What were some of the memes about Dario staying in turkey" AI answer: There are actually no real memes about "Dario staying in Turkey."This specific phrase is a famous example of a "natural language search query" used to describe how everyday people try to search the internet.A recent discussion on Hacker News highlighted this exact phrase to contrast how human search behavior has changed:"

THEN IT LINKS TO THIS THREAD?!

I need to go take a walk.

I also think that would be pretty cool. But, I think one of the things that people have loved about my site is that it really just sticks to answering the question that the URL asks and tries not to get lost in the read-more sauce. At one point we had an iOS app that had more information (and notifications!) but that thing hasn't been updated in a long time.

Yeah you're not wrong. I've updated this site by hand since 2009. There's not one data source so for a long time I was that data source. I'll be honest: I got kind of soul-crushed when Bezos and Elon started sending people up in a way that just started to feel really dirty to me. Honestly I hated updating the site, then having to update it again an hour later every time Bezos sent someone up. It's only been in the last year that I've started keeping it current.

I appreciate you recognizing us as the OG. We've tracked every launch since 2009!

Who is in space, they seem like nice people, I love the Smarter Every Day crew. (They actually tried to buy my domain years ago.) Pretty lame that they're running those insane Starlink ads but it is what it is.

bbbrad··on U.S. pulling ocean sensors a 'shock' for Canadian research as El Niño nears
Read the article, but I'm still not seeing why the U.S. is pulling these sensors. Anyone have any insight?
bbbrad··on A Mother’s Journey Through the Unnerving Universe of ‘Unboxing’ Videos
Yep, this is a huge driver of many of these youtuber's traffic.
bbbrad··on How many people are in space right now?
Really?! That's crazy to hear especially since we list the Chinese astronauts when they fly just like everyone else!

I'd love to have a screenshot of what the site being blocked looks like.

This is my site! Nothing better than waking up to the front page of HN. And thanks for all the hilarious 503 error jokes. ;) Thanks for the submission.

Couple side notes:

+For those asking about using our data, go for it! We've got a json file you can tap into: http://www.howmanypeopleareinspacerightnow.com/space.json

+We are currently churning along on an iOS app that we are VERY excited about. Think: Notifications every time the number changes plus some cool social content integration.

Anyway, I'm a daily HN reader and honestly this has made my week. Thanks for all the posi vibes!
