bauc··on Microsoft to acquire LinkedIn for $26B
Might make people wake up and look at alternatives finally (can hope). I'm definitely thinking Win 7 is my last Windows OS.
bauc··on To Lions, Zebras Are Mostly Gray
I read some interesting research[1] where they modelled the movement of Zebra's and noticed that the stripes can create optical illusions by making them appear to be moving in the opposite direction to what they actually are.

bauc··on Feature Toggles
Feature toggles are useful but should be used with great care, especially in complex codebases. There are challenges to using them. If you aren't careful or don't have very good test coverage you can break unknown sections of code.

The other pain is removing them, again if not done carefully or with very good test coverage you can unknowingly break things.

bauc··on new TLD: .BOT
That would be good in theory but might not be so good, interesting thoughts on the subject from Computerphile - Why Asimov's Laws of Robotics Don't Work - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7PKx3kS7f4A
bauc··on TalkTalk cyber-attack: Website hit by 'significant' breach
Do CEOs/directors of companies get hit but these data breaches, do we need to start insisting their personal/banking data is stored the same as customers so they get impacted? Too many companies just don't take security seriously enough.
bauc··on Why Can’t We Fall Asleep?
I use flux and have found it beneficial, I tend to sleep better since using it. It's made me more aware of the affects of light on sleep.

What app are you using on android?

bauc··on 'Smart glasses' help fix failing vision
That looks impressive, a lot less bulky. I know applications are wider than for people with vision loss. Especially if it's opened up to application development through Android or similar like indicated.
bauc··on 'Smart glasses' help fix failing vision
It's great to see different solutions to tackling vision loss/blindness. It doesn't seem like it will be too long before people using these types of glasses will have better vision (thinking Geordie!).

The trouble is the prototypes are often very clunky, but with things like Google Glasses I see the prototypes getting to be near 'invisible' like modern hearing aids.

bauc··on Painting with Code
It's amazing the images that can be generated from algorithms. It's an interesting area. I think a lot can be learned from looking at what coders in demoscene[1] have done, easy to lose hours tinkering with them.

bauc··on Facebook Fraud [video]
You can save money on a Facebook ad by linking to a Facebook page, well on a per click basis but I'm not sure if it's a good strategy overall.
bauc··on Ask HN: Any one making a living selling WP themes?
If you are interested in that you should take a look at the Flippa listing which provided quite a bit of information of the business https://flippa.com/84185-11-000-month-revenue-no-1-in-market...
bauc··on Ask HN: difficulty accessing HN outside the US?
I can access HN without issue and am based the UK.
bauc··on Things I learned by pretending to be blind for a week
Very interesting experiment. Sighted people often take their vision for granted. I know I do and I try to think of what I would do if I lost my vision but we can all work on improving accessibility in general.
bauc··on Live Weather Display Using CSS, jQuery and PHP
Unless some evil genius has captured some global landmarks that is no ordinary London skyline!
